Situation

The Timer lets you track time directly in tasks and task-based custom item types. For instructions on using the timer and adding manual time entries, see Tracking Time in Wrike.

If the Timer button is not visible in a task or task-based custom item type in your Wrike workspace, follow the steps below.

Troubleshooting

Check your browser

Open the affected item in an Incognito or Private browsing window, or try a different supported browser.

If the Timer is visible there, clear your browser cache and cookies and review your active browser extensions. Extensions can interfere with Wrike functionality.

Check the item type

Time tracking is available only for tasks and task-based custom item types. It is not available directly on projects or project-based custom item types. The Time spent field on a project displays the total time logged on its tasks.

Check your user type

Check if your user type in the account allows tracking time in items. For instance, Collaborators and Viewers can’t track time in Wrike.

To check your user type:

  1. Click your profile image in the sidebar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Open Account info.

Account admins can also customize user types. Your user type may have time-tracking permissions disabled even if it is not a Collaborator or Viewer type.

Check your access role

Your access role in the item’s location must allow creating time entries.

  1. Open the item.
  2. Click the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Share.

If you can’t view the sharing settings, ask an account admin, Space admin, or item owner to confirm your access role. They should verify that that the user's permission to create, edit, and delete time entries is enabled.

Check custom item type settings

For task-based custom item types, the Timer can be hidden from the item layout.

  1. Open an affected item.
  2. Click the item type icon or the three-dot menu and select Edit custom item type.
  3. Open the Hidden section.
  4. Find Timer and click the eye icon to make it visible.
  5. Save the changes and refresh the item.

Only account admins can edit account-level custom item types. Only space admins can edit space-level custom item types.

Contact Support

If the Timer is still missing after completing these steps, contact our Support Team and include:

  • A permalink to an affected item.
  • A screenshot of the item view.
  • Confirmation of whether the issue occurs in an Incognito/Private window or another browser.
