[Status: Backburner ⏳] Find/Replace function in task names
Need the ability to find and replace strings such as client names in task titles (e.g. City of Baltimore -> City of Raleigh). We have a large template (over 600 tasks) that have numerous references to the client. We could use a generic name such as "Client", but we would like to personalize for various reasons. Way too time-consuming to edit all the affected tasks. Thank you.
Hi Scott, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this! Something I wanted to suggest, in case it helps, is using the task prefix option in the duplication menu. That way you could leave out the client name from the template, and add it to all tasks when duplicating:
Would this help? Happy to answer any additional questions!
My project has already been set up, and now I need to change the location name...similar to what was asked here. The template is set up OK, but I already duplicated the project with the incorrect name. How can I change the name with out having to enter each task manually?
Hi Marcie, thank you for reaching out! Just to clarify: do you want to rename the location to which you've duplicated a Project, or would you like to rename tasks which have prefixes added to them?
I also have the same issue. Multiple tasks with the clients name in. I have duplicated the project and can go in and change manually but very time consuming. Ideally I could just select the project, enter a string to find and one to replace it with and all would update like in Word.
I would like to rename all of the tasks that had this prefix added. I already duplicated the template, and added this prefix. Then I started working with the tasks and modifying slightly, so I don't want to start all over again by duplicating the template again. I just want to do a 'search and replace' to update the name.
Hi Antasia, thanks for your advice above on Duplicate. It seems that the Duplicate and related Task Name Prefix only works at folder level, not task level. Could you confirm.
I too would also like a search and replace function for strings of text. For instance I am involved in a Project with four different companies, and we need to do a data conversion for each one. I have prefixed all the tasks with GEO for the first company and would then like to copy the 100 tasks and subtasks related to GEO to ARM, MLD and TAJ. Then I would like to replace GEO with ARM, MLD and TAJ for the other three companies.
Same issue as Scott had 10 month ago! Please develop change & replace. Nothing else is usable for a bit larger Projects!

I am still having to work around this issue....would be great if the search/replace option could be added
I concur. I have some large projects with hundreds of tasks, and when there is a change such as a department rename or something else is rebranded or some other text in the tasks is repeated, I have no way to change all of them without opening each task individually and pasting in the updated information. This takes a
lot
of time.

I agree with Scott. The prefix does not address the issue. Assume that you have a template with generic terms in the task description that vary from project to project. For example, you could have generic terms like "sole shareholder", "company" and "subsidiary". Ideally for a particular transaction, you should be able to search and replace the generic term with the specific term (the actual name) through a simple search and replace like you can do in excel or word. I will experiment with trying to do it through import/export using excel and do the searching and replacing through excel. Nevertheless, I don't like workarounds since it is time consuming and makes it harder for me to train others on how to do it.
This request should be combined with this one: https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115002232045-Find-Replace-function-should-be-added-in-Wrike-for-Tasks
For example, say I use a request form to get info from a client and this info is used to generate a new project form a template. If I set one of the fields to serve as a prefix for all tasks, the prefix may obscure the meat of the task title in many views, including calendar and Gantt. If I had the ability to find and replace this prefix with an abbreviation, it sure would help.
This would be a huge time saver. It allows one to more effectively leverage previous work, or a template.
I am having the same issue not an easy way to change task names for a new project. Just starting with Wrike and building out Blue Prints. We are adding project names into our tasks for clarity for our team. When I need to change the project name in a task very time consuming a simple find and replace option would be golden.
We would benefit greatly from the Find/Replace function. At this point we are using templates for recurring projects, however, it gets tedious to update the template as projects are improved throughout the process. Being able to find and replace the prefix of the most current project would be most helpful for us to have the up to date template with less room for error.
this would be a gret function. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS FEATURE.
This would be a great feature. We have had projects set up where the name was incorrectly entered or the project name had to change at some point after entry and it was a manual change on each task that lived within the project. Ideally, there would be Find/Replace option for task names as part of the mass edit options. Thanks!!
Please provide this type of functionality and soon! I used the duplicate function for 1000's of folders and tasks when we built our system. Now we have learned need to add multiple custom column, and change task names for them all so we can use the dashboards and get proper reporting. I do not have time to rebuild my entire system
This has been requested for 2 years now....any progress???
Hi everyone, thank you for your continued support for the proposed feature!
Right now I don't have an update to share; we'll add a status from our Product team here when this post reaches 60 votes. For that reason, please don't forget to +1 the original suggestion by Scott.
I'll get back to you when I know more or have any updates. Please rest assured that your feedback is being logged and reported on.
Thanks for posting!

It would be very helpful to be able to globally search and replace. All of our task names have project numbers in them. But the project number can change with a new work authorization. Ideally all tasks that haven't been completed would switch to the new project number. We don't have a lot of control over this because we work for governmental agencies and our workflow is dictated by their process, not the other way around. 😕
Hi Wrike,
This would be very helpful for our organization. Many people have voted however the votes are not going above 40 (we should be close to 50 at this point). Why are our votes not calculating?
We really need this for both tasks AND for project names, the uses/reasons all align with what's already been posted.
Hi again everyone! Thanks a lot for your input!
All your votes are taken into account here, and this suggestion is now very close to 60 upvotes, so we'll be soon adding a Product Status here.
I can't guarantee that the team decides to take it on board this year, but all suggestions with 60+ votes become a part of internal discussions during the periods of roadmap planning, so your voice will definitely be heard! Hi! We're up to 64. I'm new to Wrike and already finding this as an issue. Hoping it can be addressed with search/replace.
Hey everyone, a quick update here:
Thank you for sharing all of your feedback and votes. As this post has reached 60 upvotes, the Product team has provided us with a status. While they are interested in this suggestion, there are currently no plans to add this idea to the short-term roadmap. For that reason, this suggestion has been marked as "Backburner". I understand that this will come as disappointing news, but rest assured that all of your input has been shared with the Product team, and that if there are any changes here, we'll be sure to keep you posted.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at any time.
Our product name just changed before launch... again. One little word. HUNDREDS of tasks have this product name as the prefix. Desperately need a find and replace function within projects, even if not for the whole database. I see the backburner status, but at this point I'm literally begging for this function.
Duplicating the project does not work. I tried that and Wrike keeps the old prefix and adds the new one in front of it. Still a lot of manual deleting.
