[Status: Backburner ⏳] Find/Replace function in task names

Need the ability to find and replace strings such as client names in task titles (e.g. City of Baltimore -> City of Raleigh).  We have a large template (over 600 tasks) that have numerous references to the client. We could use a generic name such as "Client", but we would like to personalize for various reasons.  Way too time-consuming to edit all the affected tasks.  Thank you.

Have you tried copy and pasting from table view. Changing it in excel and pasting back. Seems to work for me. I'm using the Wrike app.

Please update the status of this request. My company changes project information regularly and I spend way too much time manually finding and replacing text and numbers in every task in a project that could have hundreds of entries. This has been a popular request for a while now. Any progress on getting this feature added?

Hi Pamela Mayes and everyone!

I've checked with the team, and for now, there's no update in relation to mass changing task titles. We understand that this isn't what you'd like to hear, but please rest assured we continue passing on your interest in such functionality. I or my colleagues will let you know if we have any updates here in the future.

Thank you for your feedback!

Matt McKenzie thank you for your suggestion of copy/paste to Excel and back. It worked! I had 438 tasks to update. I did a lot manually before finding your suggestion. I was able to copy sub-projects, tasks and subtasks from the table view into Excel, find/replace there, copy, select the range again in Wrike and paste. Wala! Tedious hours saved. Thank you!

I'm taking over a project from a PM where around half the task titles have the wrong name - once I've finished duplicating, I have to manually rename hundreds of tasks. Definitely hoping we see a status change on this one soon!

This is such a common feature in every software tool, i was surprised to look and look and find that it didn't exist.  *please* add it!  Find/replace has been around so long that its a basic expectation!

Also thank you to Matt for the copy/paste into excel tip above.  he's a lifesaver, hire him to the dev team!

Is there any progress on this? I see people have been asking for find/replace function now for 7 years and still there is no sign of it coming.  As many others have said it's a standard function in nearly every software and it's disappointing that it doesn't exist in Wrike.

This feature request would be great! At my organization, when we initiate a marketing project, we use placeholders for the campaign or event name to track it across team dashboards and throughout the project lifecycle. Rather than manually updating these placeholders, a convenient "one-click" solution to find and replace them would significantly streamline our workflow and save time.

It would be great if this feature could be added. Other project management tools do this easily (Smartsheet), and as someone who completes repetitive projects and uses Wrike for tracking, it is a huge manual task for every project to be edited.

Hello Wrike Team,

Do we have any plans to address this requirement? I am managing a large project where the customer recently changed their name and wants us to comply as soon as possible. Given the many great features in Wrike, I assumed that this feature would be there, and now I am here requesting for the same.

Best regards,

Vishnu

I'm new to WRIKE and working on my first project of size where renaming functionality is an issue. Would love to know what the update barrier is.

Hello Wrike Team,

We would love to see this function also. Is there any way to tell if this request has made it to any sort of queue for product updates?

Hi,

This function would be a great improvement.  At the moment when I duplicate a project I have to go in and manually change project details that would be easily done using a Find and Replace tool that is a standard function on a huge number of popular applications. 8 years is too long for this to be dragging on.

Hey Wrike team, jumping in with my +1 for this much-needed idea.

Our main use case right now is related to a multi-year project that currently has just over 1,800 items in it. Most of which we're going to have to repeat with another brand for a similar project soon. For now, I've had to duplicate small portions of the project into Blueprints, and then manually remove the naming conventions from every single item to make it generic. As you can imagine, this process takes a lot of time. I've spent hours doing this and I feel like I've barely made a dent.

There are so many new pieces of work and 1-time only tasks for this project that starting with a Blueprint just isn't realistic. Even creating a single task from a Blueprint and attaching it to the project can be challenging since we can't set the Location to a task (folder or project only), so we often just duplicate from within the project and manually update the task + subtask names because it's faster.

I'm advocating for the below functionality to apply to the titles of projects, folders, tasks, subitems, and any CITs of those varieties, in priority order:

  1. Find and replace (use new naming convention)
  2. Find and delete (remove naming convention)

I'm happy to chat with a Product team member if they want examples or have questions! As always, thanks for the consideration. 💚
