It's also not possible to create recurrent subtasks. It was suggested to me that I assign my recurring task as subtasks manually but it's a bit labour intensive to have to do that every day.

New to the platform - chiming in to say that "Allow for a task to recur indefinitely. Since it's just a single task, no problem!" would be an awesome addition as opposed to selecting a date in 2050!

    To echo Samantha Lee:

"I too was very disappointed when I first created a recurring task in Wrike. To see every instance was very visually overwhelming. On our old system, the task would auto-duplicate to the next recurrence only after it was completed. This too was not ideal, as one could not fully visualize on a timeline or calendar their workload for the future. I think a simple toggle switch "show/hide recurring tasks" would suffice for the visual noise, but I do love the original poster's suggestions as well."

This was a feature in Todoist that helped to distill down the noise/volume when someone would go on vacation for example.

Further to my comment "... why is there no option to defer the creation of a new task until the preceding task is completed? This means I have to find and cancel missed frequently recurring (e.g. daily and every other day) tasks or delete the new ones. For example, I went on holiday and came back to a dashboard full of repeated instances of my daily recurring tasks!"

Since I have now discovered that Wrike pauses the recurrence if 15 previous recurrent tasks are not modified, completed or deleted. I believe my stated problem could be fixed if Wrike gave users the option to adjust the number of "previous recurrent tasks not modified, completed or deleted" that would pause the recurrence.

Please, could Wrike answer the questions below:

    1. Is recurring subtasks something that is actually on the development roadmap or not?

    2. If it is on the roadmap, then what is the likely timescale for implementation?

    3. If it isn't on the roadmap, what were the key reasons for its omission; is it worth us holding out any hope, or looking for an alternative solution?

As a work around I took everything up a layer, e.g. what would have been the task became a folder in the project and what would have been a subtask became the task. This does mean though that there are so many tasks to have to set up as recurring. I'm not sure the administrative overhead

    Hello,

It seems that I am not the only person having the recurring subtask issue. So I won't repeat was already said.

Any update on when we can expect the recurring task and subtask to recur together? We have over 60 active companies so creating subfolders is not feasible and clogs up my navigation pane.

    Best,

    Tattiana

Now that you've added effort to the workload tab, you have a new recurrence problem: Efforts don't recur! All of our tasks are recurring ones - hundreds per month. I just paid for the workload tab/module to manage effort only to discover that the effort does not recur when the task recurs. Do you really expect me to have someone update hundreds of tasks over and over each month just to be able to track and manage effort? The tab is basically worthless without effort recurring when the task does. I need to know if this is going to be addressed soon - before I demand my money back.

Hello, just following-up. We have been using Wrike and the subtasks not recurring WITH the main task has really been a problem. it is not very efficient to have team members manipulating information as that does not really serve as a reminder. If someone forgets to duplicate the task then we run the risk of the task not being performed- I really would like to know if this is being addressed or even in any sort of beta environment?

Right now I am using a LOT of foldering to allow for my tasks to recur collectively and they recur in that folder but this is not a long-term solution when we have 60+ active companies within the organization.

    Thank you.

We need the ability to filter by recurring task.

Use Case:  When a user account is deactivated, all recurring tasks created by the user will stop recurring. When an employee leaves the company, we need to be able to identify any recurring tasks created by that user to determine whether those recurring tasks should be resumed. Currently, the only way we can do that is to create a temporary Dashboard widget filtered by task author, and review all tasks created by that user to look for the little recurring task icon. This is time-consuming, cumbersome, and error-prone.

Alternatively (and preferably), when deactivating/deleting a user, provide an option to review/resume recurring tasks authored by that user.

Just chiming in with another vote for subtasks that recur with the main task. I'm new to Wrike (rolling it out to my team next week) and it is honestly a little baffling to me that this isn't available. I can't see many use cases in which it wouldn't be helpful to have subtasks pull over.

Another thing that would be very helpful is to choose how far in advance the task appears on your schedule. I know I can create upfront tasks, but once those run out they'll only pop up the day before. For forecasting purposes, it would be awesome if you could choose when the next one appears on the schedule. For example, we create weekly content for some of our clients and it would be great if the task for the following week could appear on someone's schedule as soon as they check off the task for the current week.

Since recurring tasks were created before subtasks were introduced, it seems like making recurring tasks members of a parent task, would be a better solution than the current method of recurring in a folder.

As far as use cases go, we need to be able to control how many tasks exist at given time. For example, let's say we want to manage bills in wrike. I need to see the current, previous and next task at any given time, but not all of the recurrences. So, we need to be able to control how many tasks exist at a given time and also be able to edit the entire recurrence if needed. Also, being able to forecast tasks by toggling recurrences would help too.

There are a lot of comments to sort through here so I apologize if this has been discussed, but I would love to see indefinite recurring tasks. I had a couple of recurring tasks that ended this past month and I didn't realize they had ended, so I missed my deadline on both. :(

    Hi,

We work extensively with recurrence and we need to have a lot of tasks created upfront to plan and assign tasks to different individuals way ahead. However we have just realized that the setting "Create Upfront" is nothing more than a one-time activity at the moment the recurrence is either set up or changed. This is not satisfactory.

What we need is for the recurrence to continuously create X amount of tasks ahead of the current recurrence.
I.e If I create a monthly activity with 2 tasks created upfront in January I want to see 2 tasks in the list; Jan and Feb. When the date set in Jan has passed I want to see March created directly. As it is now this doesn't happen until Feb has passed and by then it is to late.

Please consider updating the recurrence feature.

is it possible to have an option when recurrence tasks are set up, to delete them once completed? there are some tasks which yes, I would like them to kept in the completed column for the logs, trail of comments etc, for some mundane recurring tasks, we dont really need to keep track of them in the completed tasks. without the option to delete them, there's this monster list of completed tasks which will need to be manually deleted.

Looking forward to when recurring tasks also include their subtasks. Without subtasks duplicated, the usefulness is definitely limited.

Another suggestion is to make the recurring task feature "speak to" the work schedules feature more intelligently. When you schedule a task to repeat "every working day" it still ends up creating a task for days that may not actually be a "working day" for a particular individual (e.g. someone who works part time).

@Hannah - for that there are 2 aspects. You will need to update the users "Work schedule". They can mark which days are "non-working" days on their calendar under their "profile settings" and then make sure their tasks are for "working days only".

@Tattiana Users have already been assigned relevant work schedules based on their working days. Wrike still creates recurrences of the tasks for those days that are non-working in users' schedules. It does it for annual leave as well.

Hi everyone! Our Product team has researched this suggestion, and for now, they didn't add it to the short-term roadmap. It doesn't mean it will never be implemented - I'll keep checking for updates and get back to you as soon as I have something to share.

Thank you for your votes and use-cases, they'll be definitely reviewed again in the future.

I am chiming in to agree with the previous five pages of comments on the recurring subtask request. We're an agency with hundreds of clients. Simply put, this results in thousands of recurring tasks that our team is responsible for on a daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis. Not being able to create a task with a list of subtasks and trust that they will all be set to recurring is a serious time waster.

Hoping we can see this, at least planned, on the roadmap soon.

I am blown away that Wrike does not have the ability to duplicate this recurring task with the sub-tasks attached to it.๐Ÿ˜ฑ I've been sitting here for 30 mins trying to figure out how I could make recurring tasks with sub-tasks to auto-duplicate. I have OVER 300 clients and counting I need to do this for๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿ’ป PLEASE HAVE A TEAM TRY TO FIGURE THIS OUT WRIKE, we all depend on this little thing

Beyond frustrated that Wrike cannot create a recurring task with corresponding recurring subtasks. This functionality is core to the entire purpose of a task management system.  We have so many client and regulatory situations that require monthly/quarterly/annual tasks with corresponding subtasks (to include dependencies and duration).  Duplication does not meet the need for this; these tasks need to be scheduled automatically

Side note:  All recurring tasks need to show up when scheduled, not just added to the list, it adds too much clutter to My to-do list.

At the end of the day, I need an answer from Wrike whether this will be added to the roadmap and when.  We need an answer, because if it is not going to be added, we need to find a different solution.

Our business relies on these tasks not falling through the cracks.

Hi Scott Harris, thank you for your feedback here, it's been passed on to the Product team.

I understand that it can be frustrating to see a suggestion not being implemented, especially when the request has been around for a while. While an implementation may not currently be planned, it could be added to the plans in the future. You can read more about what happens with Product Feedback here.

According to this thread, the Product team is interested in having recurring subtasks within recurring tasks, but it is not currently on the short term roadmap. As soon as there are any updates here, I'll be sure to pass on any information.

If you have any other questions, let me know ๐Ÿ˜Š

Wrike either needs to have the ability to create recurring projects with recurring tasks OR recurring tasks with recurring sub tasks.  It is very difficult to setup periodic recurring processes that require multiple steps without this functionality.  Frustrated.
