Thatโs why weโre so pleased to be able to bring this update to you today ๐Weโd also like to thank everyone whoโs been sharing their thoughts on Custom item types and posting ideas, suggestions, and questions. Our Product team continues to monitor your feedback closely and is grateful to you for providing it.
How to
Users who have Full or Editor access roles can convert tasks to task-based Custom item types and projects to project-based ones.ย
- Using mass editingย
Please note that converting multiple work items is only available for tasks.ย
- In List View (by right-clicking on the task or project)
- On the project or task panel
Please note that you can not only convert your tasks and projects into Custom item types but also change them back to regular tasks and projects.
๐Weโve also added a new permission to Access roles related to Custom item types - the ability to convert tasks and projects into Custom Item Types and vice versa.ย
We hope this newly added functionality will help you to get the most from Custom item types! Please share your feedback and question with us below ๐

Hi Lisa, that is a great step forward ๐
Awesome news!ย ย ๐๐๐ช
This is cool!
Happy to hear this update!
This looks very interesting - can't wait to try it out!
๐ค Just what we waiting for. Many thanks.
That was really necessary to use custom types. Thanks.
I'm missing the update of the workflow and rules after the convert. The workflow is still the default and the rules are ignored.
This is a nice feature to have - it makes Wrike more customizable!
Thanks a lot for sharing your feedback on this important update, everyone! All your feedback is being reported to the team, and we are glad to see you're excited about it! ๐ค

Will this be talked about at Wrike Collaborate during the Custom Item Types session?
Thanks for this, very well received. It would make more sense to me if the right click action was in the left side folder tree rather than in list view, but perhaps that's just me?ย
This will help a lot the transition to the new type of itens <3
Lisa what Wrike recomends for the old task type? Is there a way to hide it system wide? Or to make it as a new type of item? (Hope I could explain it right haha)
Melynda Willis There'll be a session on CITs - please check it out here "Get exCITed about Custom Item Types!" ๐
Mark Tucknutt I've shared your feedback with the team anyway ๐
Neyl Walecki No spoilers, but you will soon have more control over the types of items in your account ๐ค

Thanks Lisa this is a big thing for adopting CIT in scale for us.
Lisa - As best I can tell, the API doesn't yet support the ability to change the item type. Is this by any chance available but not yet documented? If not, any ETA on when the API will support this capability?
Hey Laura Boylan, I don't have an update on changing item types via API at the moment, but we'll keep you posted ๐

Lisa - Any updates on the ability to change the item type either by API or by built-in automation rules?
It would be very useful to be able to use automation rules to change the item type to a specific custom type - like when a task is moved to a specific folder or a particular custom field value is selected.
Hi Jennifer Reusser, thanks for sharing and welcome to the Community!ย
We've passed your feedback on to the team. If there's anything else we can help with, do let me know ๐

I would also like to see automation able to change a custom item type - this would be extremely helpful in ITSM models as items flow through different centers of excellence.ย
Hi Lindsay Fahey-Smith, thank you for adding your vote to this suggestion, I've passed your feedback on to our Product Team ๐
