Resources' Skills and Capacity Management

 Hi,

I'd like to assign a set of skills to each resource. When a new project requires specific skills, I hope to quickly find the persons with those skills and have the capacity. But I didn't see how this is managed in Wrike, could you please provide some guidance?

Thanks very much!

Hi Helen, thanks for your post. Wrike is focused on enhancing workflow and collaboration so we don't have functionality specifically developed for storing people attributes.

However, I have seen other Wrike accounts, where they have created people as tasks in a 'People' Folder and then used Custom Fields to assign skill sets to these tasks/people, and other attributes about that person. This way anyone can open the 'People' Folder, and search by filtering by Custom Fields. I just saw a demonstration from another team that does this where it was working very successfully for them and I would love to hear if it works for you as well.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this!

Stephen,

Seems the above solution could provide a view that looks like a skill matrix, however, it would not be useful for being able to pull the data into any other type of views, such as where you are assign people to actual project tasks. Anyway to incorporate the data from that view into other views where resources are being signed?

Hi David Gelinas, welcome to the Community! 🙂

I think that Stephen meant using the Custom Fields, and you can definitely use them in different Wrike Views as filters to filter out the tasks with specific Custom Fields. I also wanted to mention Job Roles here - please check them out and let me know if that could be helpful in this case.

Skills management as a characteristic on a person I thought was in the roadmap?   is this not the case?  job role, is one per person, groups would become numerous and difficult to maintain versus attributes on a person.   Would you confirm whether this is a roadmap item?

Hi Lizbeth Tommy, thank you for reaching out!

Could you please point me to a Product Feedback thread perhaps where skills management was discussed? I haven't heard about any particular plans to introduce this. One thing I can think of is the release of custom item types that happened last year. With them, you can turn regular tasks and projects into custom items that can be anything, including, for example, skills cards. Can that be helpful in your case?

It was at the Collaborate conference in 2020 or 2021 when they announced new functionality coming around skills in conjunction with workload forecasting charts so you can assign based on available capacity and skills.  I also recently was wondering what happened with that initiative, as we could use it.

I think that it could have potentially been about Job Roles then. But I'll check with the team and if there's any upcoming functionality around that, I'll let you know 👍

Hi - Whatever happened with this? We're looking to use a skills matrix as well to assign resources to projects.

I would like a roadmap of development for 2023/2024.  Is this available for the community or strictly 1:1 with the account team?

Basudha Sakshyarika my team would like to utilize the feature of adding skills to user profiles more in depth. Like previously stated, we would like to be able to pull a group of people who match the skills required for an upcoming project to see who has what skills and bandwidth to work on that project. Is this something the team is working on yet?

Hi Kellie Graham 👋, I’m chiming in for Basudha.

We've just released a new Custom Field called Skill Levels, which lets you easily track both skills and proficiency levels all in one place. This field allows you to pair a skill with its corresponding proficiency level to assign individuals' skills. Once you specify a skill requirement for a task, Wrike will automatically suggest people with the required skill level or higher at the top of the list.

I believe you’ve already seen our dedicated post about this feature, and I hope it’s been beneficial for your use case 🙂
