Change Project Start

Can the project/folder start date be modified after it has been selected? I need to move the project/folder start date back and I can't find a way to do it.

Hi Brian, thanks for writing in! To change the Project start date, just modify the dates from the Project information panel, as shown here:

Folder durations and dates are calculated based on the tasks inside them, so in this case you just need to modify the tasks inside those locations. Does this help? Happy to answer any further questions!

How do I avoid needing to update all the tasks and just have it calculated based on a new start date?

Hi Ariel, thank you for your input here, it's a good question!

Changing the Project's start and end date won't shift its tasks start/end dates unless you use dependencies in the Timeline View. This allows you to shift and reschedule dependent tasks and milestones at once within a Project. Check out Anastasia's example here.

If you don't want to add dependencies to your tasks then a quick way to update scheduling is using Mass Editing, which will allow selecting some, or all, tasks within a project and shift the dates backward or forwards.

It's also worth mentioning here, that the Table View and Timeline logic differ when it comes to Project start and end dates. The Table View shows the start and end date of the Project based on the scheduled start and end dates of its tasks. While Timeline shows the Project start date and end date as the dates you have entered manually.

Any questions on the above, please let me know 🙂

With lightspeed, the project information panel has disappeared. How do I now edit the start/finish date?

Hey Carmen Lea, that doesn't sound right! Project panel should still be there. Could you please share a screenshot?
