[Status: Not planned] Editable Task Completion Date

 I have started a project about a year in and am trying to track the progress of the project so far. Unfortunately whenever I create a task and mark it complete, it states that the completion date is today even though it was completed months ago. I would like to see an editable completion date (at least for the Admin role) so that Planned and Actual completion dates can be compared and reported accurately, rather than having a huge number of tasks completed on the day the project is loaded on to Wrike.

For basic project tracking the date MARKED complete isn't particularly useful, while the date ACTUALLY completed is critical for maintaining integrity of overall schedule for linked tasks.  I agree that in a perfect world individual task owners would always mark complete immediately upon actually completing the task, and then MARKED and ACTUAL would be the same.  However, this is the real world and this just doesn't always happen in actual practice.  In the scenario where a team meets weekly to review and update a schedule, marking tasks complete changes dates and pushes out all downstream linked tasks.  Since we can't change the completed date to the ACTUAL completed date, we have no way to resolve this issue.  Once the date of actual completion has passed and someone has not marked it complete, there seems to be no recovery except to avoid marking it complete at all.  Otherwise, we end up with downstream tasks pushed out when not actually needed.  A minor oversight by a user shouldn't unavoidably hinder a core functionality of the tool.  I fail to understand how the Product Managers don't see this as a major functionality deficiency.

I suspect that once many users realize that such basic functionality isn't available, they don't waste their time searching a forum, upvoting a thread, and then hoping and waiting for its implementation and rollout.  They simply move on to one of the other available products on the market.

I have upvoted the top comment, please also do the same to support this change because of the following:

Manual Editing Of The Complete Date Is A Must!

  • Mistakes happen and not being able to correct those mistakes is causing issues

Scenarios When Complete Date Is Not Correct:

  • Incorrect Reporting - Missed Due Dates being reported when it has not been missed
  • Customer Abrasion - Customer seeing incorrectly reported missed Due Dates causing complaints / lack of confidence in doing business 
  • Un-necessary Commutation / Time waste - Having to explain incorrect Complete Dates causing additional meetings/emails to discuss details / provide explanations 

Recommendation:

  • Space Admins Control - Editing is limited to managements approved users.
  • Wrike Auto Document Change - Populate comment showing "Prior" Complete Date to "New" Complete Date.

YES! I agree that this is a necessary feature for our organization.
Especially since we are migrating old projects from Asana to Wrike, we want to keep track of the date of completion for all tasks.

Agree - being able to alter the completed date field would be wonderful from a reporting standpoint. Having to create a custom field to make it editable is not ideal Please make this change - it's very small but will have a big impact if you want to tout customizable reporting.
