[Status: Backburner ⌛️] Set "Required" custom fields

Currently a user can create a custom field for their projects and tasks.

It would help if, there was a way to set these custom fields as required.

And, if the problem is because the fields are specific to the user, then I would like the ability to make custom global fields that are required.

It's the missing ingredient in custom fields. They're useful for one person. but human nature means they might not get filled out, unless forced.

Maybe there's already a way, or already a suggestion for this

Hi Regina Ball, thanks for getting back to me. I totally do understand, I'll pass on your feedback to the team.

Florian Kislich, thank you for the feedback! The good news is the team is working on Automation this year and there might be more news 👀

Hi - We also have the same need to make custom fields required for certain blueprint / work templates - whether the task is in certain statuses or when completing a task.

I'm considering of using other tools that enforce this validation as this is really hard to swallow that Wrike doesn't have this feature.

Hi Benjamin Lee,

are you aware of requestforms in wrike? Using this you can mark every question as required, including custom fields.

Adding a vote to include this feature, it is much needed! Utilizing required fields in the request form won't work for our needs - we need a feature that won't allow the user to mark a project status "complete" until all custom fields are completed. Please prioritize this with your development team - thanks!

Unbelievable, this feature has been suggested since 2017, OP received 200+ likes and has not been taken seriously.

My team really needs to be able to make certain custom fields mandatory. We have also expressed that with our account reps a few years ago.

This is making our reporting time more than double as our team has grown globally.

This update shouldn't affect customers who don't need it, but be tremendously helpful for those who do.

If this isn't addressed I will be suggesting we move into another platform that does.

I'm agree with you, really bad customer experience!  customer centric, customer voice, customer satisfaction...blabla.  May be not significant in the Wrike company..

Unfortunately i think to change of platform for these little things

Hi folks, thank you for reaching out!

Please allow me to share some detail on how this Product Feedback forum works. We have a voting system here where any Wrike user can upvote a suggestion when visiting the Community. There are other ways to let us know your feedback, and the Community is one of them. We have a process for reporting all suggestions, feedback, and votes from this forum to our Product team, and they continuously review all of this data.
Once any suggestion reaches the 60 votes threshold, we add a Product status to it. You can check out more info on that and on the list of statuses in this post. The status for this particular suggestion is currently 'Backburner', which means that the team has been reviewing and continues to receive the feedback here, but they can't prioritize it over other planned releases and enhancements. If we do have an update for this suggestion in the future, we will let you know about it here in this thread.
Our team can't commit to working on all or even most of the suggestions in this forum, but at the same time, feedback from this channel is important to them. As an example, here's the list of Community-generated suggestions that the team has released last year.
If you have any questions or concerns, I'm happy to let your Account team know about this so that you can discuss it case-by-case.

I hope this info was helpful, but if you have any questions, please let me know.

This is a required feature to ensure form-filling consisitency

This is still asked for in many of our teams -- request forms don't work most of the time because we need certain fields to be filled in after the task is created during different stages of the workflow.  Also, request forms are not inherently how users go about creating tasks in Wrike - its a different work process that can be bypassed.

Required fields are quite standard in many other work tools and other SaaS platforms.  Hope the product team can look at this again.

We asking for this feature since 2016 ...... how can you imagine that we stay assured... it seems to not listen the user voice...

Hey sebastien BRUNIN! I understand it can be frustrating, but our team can't commit to releasing all or even most of the Community suggestions. At the same time, we've checked with our Product team and although they don't have this planned at the moment, they may be able to get back to this idea next year.

This is a requirement for me too. Even in its most basic form, the ability to flag a field as mandatory on create, would be a game changer - as a new user, I can already see that I will spend far too much time updating missing information to ensure items are displayed correctly on dashboards and alike

My team REALLY needs this too. Even if we don't trigger an action based off of an incomplete required field, a designation that could be leveraged in a report would be helpful so we can easily pull data down on what required fields are incomplete (i.e. start building out accuracy/adoption reporting for our users to drive desired behavior.

We really NEED this as well! If fields aren't filled out by individuals, management is having issues with their dashboards reflecting the reality of projects and effort allocation.

Without a due date, this feature will remain a dream....

the first request was made in 2017 :(

Dear Wrike team,

However, I must express my concern regarding the absence of a mandatory fields feature in Wrike, even from its inception. This is a fundamental capability expected in any project management tool, and it is surprising that such a basic feature has not been included from the start. The fact that there are over a thousand discussions and numerous user requests for this feature underscores its critical importance to Wrike’s user base.

It is also perplexing how Wrike, despite missing such essential project management features, continues to receive positive ratings from industry analysts such as Gartner. It seems that fundamental project management needs are not fully addressed, which could impact the overall effectiveness and user satisfaction.

Given the widespread demand for this functionality, I urge the Wrike product team to prioritize the implementation of mandatory fields. To facilitate this, could you please advise on how we, as users, can formally escalate this request to ensure it receives the necessary attention? Are there specific channels or processes in place for users to influence product development?

Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Ensuring that user needs are adequately addressed will undoubtedly enhance the overall user experience and effectiveness of the platform.

Thank you for your attention to this important issue.

Best regards,
Jay

Hi all,

I'm adding my voice (and my vote!) to this item.  We use custom fields to add information to tasks that we can subsequently use in WA reports.  Without the ability to make some of these custom fields mandatory, our ability to gain useful intelligence is severely hampered by human nature.  HR tells me we're not allowed to use either bribes or threaten them with 24x7x365 Christmas music, so without mandatory fields we are unable to get the intelligence we need.
