Following Tasks

Table 21. Availability - Legacy plans

Overview

All users (including collaborators) can follow tasks, regular users can add any other user as a follower, and external users can make someone a follower if that task is already shared with that person.

Following a task allows you to keep track of its progress, you'll be notified of changes to assignee, date, status, description, comments, etc. You'll see all the changes made in the Stream as well as receive notifications to your email. You can choose which changes to be notified about in Email preferences in your settings.

Clicking on the following icon of a task will show which users and user groups are following it.

Follow a task

When you're assigned to a task or someone shared a task with you, you're automatically added as a follower to this task.

If you want to add yourself (or your teammate) as a follower:

  1. Open Task 1 in Item view.

  2. Click the Three-dot-menu 2 located at the top-right corner.

  3. Click the Follow 3 option from the dropdown to add yourself as a follower. You can also add other users as a follower for the same task.

  4. Click Edit followers 4.

Unfollow a task

When you unfollow a task, you stop receiving all updates about the task, but you'll be able to see these updates in the task stream. Also, you can delete followers from tasks, so people with whom the task is shared stop receiving notifications as well.

  1. Open Task 1 in Item view.

  2. Click the Three-dot menu 2 located at the top-right corner.

  3. Click the Unfollow 3 option from the dropdown to remove yourself as a follower.

  4. You can also remove other users as a follower for the same task.

  5. Click Edit followers 4.

Note

You won't be able to stop following a task if you're assigned to it. If you stop following a task you won't automatically stop following its subtasks, but you can repeat the above process for any subtasks you no longer want to follow.
