[Status: Launched! ๐Ÿš€] Auto-tag Tasks and Subtasks with Folders within Project Blueprints

It would be helpful to have tasks and/or subtasks within a project blueprint be tagged with folders (outside of other blueprints) such that when a project is created from the blueprint, all of the underlying tasks/subtasks are auto-tagged accordingly.

This is somewhat related to this existing postย which is for keeping folder tags when duplicating tasks. This is especially useful when multiple teams are using Wrike and certain projects are collaborative across teams. Being able to keep additional folder tags would allow us to automatically distribute work to each team how they want to receive it.

@all, I've updated the status here. What's does this mean? In short, the product team like the idea, however, it has not been added to any short-term roadmaps but will be added to ongoing internal discussions for future planning to start investigating.

I'll keep you posted as this happens ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Hi everyone, just letting you know that our team is still interested in this, but there are currently no short-term plans to implement this. I'll keep you posted on any updates.

Jumping on here.ย  This would be highly beneficial for us to be added too.ย  We have to use tags for us to be able to see hierarchy Folders in reports.ย  Tagging manually is very tedious.ย  I vote in favor of this.ย

Hey everyone, a quick update here -ย

It is now possible to auto-tag tasks and subtasks from Blueprints now! I've changed the status of this post to "Launched". Thank you for sharing all of your feedbackย ๐Ÿ˜Š

At the moment, these tags won't appear if the blueprint is used in a request form. The Product team is planning on adding this, and as soon as I have more information, I'll be sure to let you know.

Quick question: Bug, intended feature, mistake by me?:

When I load a Blueprint which includes auto-tagged tasks and I delete the resulting Projekt again, the folders which were auto-tagged to tasks still include those tasks. I was hoping the tasks would be deleted too.

thx

Hi Johannes Florian

Lisa here with Wrike Support to help you out.ย

This is expected behavior as described in ourย Help Center article: "When you delete a Folder or Project which has tasks, subtasks, Subfolders, and Subprojects: if those tasks, subtasks, Subfolders, and Subprojects are tagged (included) in additional locations, then they will continue to live in those additional locations even after the Folder or Project is deleted."ย  It makes no difference as to how the tasks were created andย taggedย in multiple locations - as long as they exist in the account, the general rule applies to them as to any other tasks.ย

Thus, if tasks from a folder live in multiple locations, please make sure to delete these tasks using theย mass editingย functionality prior to removing the project itself. To check if tasks have additional tags, you'll need to open the project in the List view and enable "Folder names" as demonstrated in the screenshot below:

This way, the tasks will be removed from other locations as well.
Let us know if you have any questions!

Hello @...,

I am unable to tag Hugh, so I tagged you instead.

I've recently upgraded to Wrike Business (from professionnal) and I'm trying to auto-tag some task from a blueprint, it doesn't seems to work. Is it fully implemented yet? I can't drag it from the menu into the list view, neither can I add the tag from the task view.

Hi David Leblanc,

Hope you are enjoying the Business package so far. Thank you for sticking with us!

To tag Blueprint tasks with real work, you will need to apply changes from the Task view. Please open any Blueprint task, click "Select location":
โ€‹
Here is how it looks like when the tag is applied:
โ€‹
These are "virtual" tags, that are not applied in reality until the Blueprint is copied as real work. Therefore, Blueprints won't show up in real work folders/projects.
Also, it's worth mentioning that it's possible to use this feature for Blueprint tasks and subtasks, but it's not possible to tag folders/projects.

Please test how it works on your side and let us know if you have any questions!

Thanks for the fast answer @...,

ย

I was in the list view and we can only tag blueprint from that menu, it is working now.

I've loved this feature! What would make it even better is if you could edit it with Mass Edit in blueprints, so that you can remove or add an on-launch cross-tag to multiple tasks more easily. I love how in list view, you can see what folders tasks are in and see at a glance where things are cross-tagged to.ย

My colleagues and I were doing some tedious work of making many tasks so that they show up in another folder / space when launched. Being able to see and edit this "When creating from a blueprint..." feature in List view rather than just detail view would be really helpful.

Hello,

The subject/title of this post and the comment/request from Dave Quinn made do not agree.ย  Is there another post that addresses the desire to tag blueprint tasks to folders OUTSIDE of the blueprint folder, so that when we create from blueprint, our tasks are already tagged to the appropriate projects OUTSIDE of the blueprints?ย

I am interested in using auto-tagging, but in a slightly different way. I want to see if we can apply the tag during an upload of tasks into a folder. That way we can use wrike analyze and display the tag folder name in a dashboard for analysis. Is that possible? I am not familiar with blueprints.ย

Ex.ย

Task 123 - Tag "Upload"ย

Task 456 - Tag "Revise"

Task 789 - Tag "Copy"ย

Task 1011 - Tag "Upload"

Then in reporting, instead of seeing 123, 456, 789, 1011, we see Upload (2), Revise (1), Copy (1).ย

We have several tasks with very different use cases and it would be awesome to enable wrike analyze with a clean tag folder arrangement.ย

Please let me know your thoughts!ย

Thank you!ย
