[Status: Not Planned] Automatic Project Numbers
Hi Wrike,
Are there any plans moving forward to add automatic project numbers in to Wrike? So in our business when a change request comes in we give it a CR number. So CR-001, CR-002 and so on. Other systems we use allow this to be an automatically issued number. Would be interesting to know if any other users have requested this.
Cheers
Adam. ☺️
Upvoted! We need this too ideally! How far up the bump list is it now?
I'm thinking it's filed under permanent backlog ;-)
Hi Phil Ellis and Chris Mosch, thank you for adding your support to this idea. At the moment, we don't have updates to share about this suggestion, but please rest assured that your feedback has been noted.
Currently, the status of this feature is "Not planned", but we will gladly inform you in case there are any changes. Please, let us know if there is anything else we could help you with 👍
Adding my support for this, too. It's kind of silly that something so basic isn't in Wrike already, years later.
Hey Nick Simonton, thanks for adding your feedback here. Although there is indeed interest in this feature, it's votes are lower than many other requested features here and our team look at this to decide what's best to work on. They also consider what updates will have the largest impact for the greatest amount of customers.
Although this remains unplanned, we'll continue to share feedback on this ask with the team and if there are any changes to this we'll be sure to update the thread. There's more info available on how we work with Product feedback in this post. If you have any other questions, or if there's anything else we can help with, please don't hesitate to ask.

I'm very shocked this feature is not in wrike. How hard could it be to add the unique id every project gets as a prefix option?
Hi Oliver Banks, welcome to the Community. Thank you for chiming in, I understand you might find it frustrating not to see this feature being implemented, I'm afraid that not all ideas can be prioritized. However, please rest assured that we are passing your feedback on to our Product Team and, if there are any changes in regards to this feature, we will keep you informed.
Please, let us know if there is anything else we could help you with.
Also, I'd like to mention that you can explore our 'New to Community forum to discover all the resources available in our Community 🙂
Since this request has been opened since "January 31, 2020 07:02" with no movement despite repeated customer requests, how about setting expectations appropriately? "Wrike has reviewed this request and determined it will not be implemented. Thank you for being so understanding."
When my company was vetting new project management software 4 years ago, we met with the folks at Workamajig and asked the very question this thread is about - can we customize job numbers with prefixes that automatically increment as submissions come in. They said "Yep." We ultimately went with Wrike for other reasons, but it's not an unreasonable expectation that Wrike might have implemented this (relatively simple) feature in the time since. Is it something many companies still want? Yes. Therefore we keep asking. Hopefully Wrike will add this feature sooner than later.
I agree it's disingenuous treatment, Chris. Three years and not even a beta test. Just say it won't or can't happen, we can all move on, find new platforms or commit to a bodge.
Thanks for your continued feedback here, folks! We understand your disappointment because this feature is not planned at the moment. However, we don't know whether there would be changes in the future, which is why this thread remains open for further feedback.

We ended up solving this using Wrike Integrate. We had to hire a Wrike Integrate Consultant to help us figure it out, but it worked. The Integration recipe is looking at a specific location in Wrike and the trigger is when a CIT is created (we use CIT's in our Blueprints, so when they Create From Blueprint it has a CIT to distinguish our "top level" project). We use a lookup table within Wrike Integrate to populate the Project ID number, using the next in line from the sequence. It puts that number into a Custom Field that we use for views/reporting. We debated whether to have it also update the Project Name to use the number as the prefix for it and at this point chose not to do that, to keep our Wrike Analyze boards looking clean for project names. The recipe also takes that Project ID custom field and copies the value to all the sub-projects and subitems so that whatever you're looking at within the project, it has the "Project ID" showing in the custom fields.
We're currently working to solve for the assets/sku's within the project that also need a unique "Item ID" which has a different sequence of numbers depending on the project type. We've successfully setup the CIT and Integrate Recipe for "Items" which can trigger the numbering system into a custom field from the lookup table (which can use a combination of different custom field values to determine which sequence to use). Now we're solving for how to best modify those with a Revision Date appended to it so that each time we make changes to that asset/sku it keeps the same Item number but has a different Rev Date. It's hard to "Create From Blueprint" to manage the timeline for this year's project and also pick-up last year's asset/sku in Wrike without asking users to copy/paste permalinks to trigger Integrate and we don't just want them duplicating last year's project.
So, it's not perfect yet, and still in progress, but I wanted to share how we've begun to solve for this, in case it's helpful for the Wrike Community 🤗 We couldn't have made this much progress without @... so huge thank you for your help!
Hi Meredith Selden, thank you very much for sharing your experience with the Community! I'm sure that many users will benefit from it. I'm glad to hear that you are getting closer to the solution you're looking for. Plesae, feel free to share more updates on your case and how this process continues to progress 🙌
Thank you!
Upvote for No. Series.
Approval/Project number would be a great feature!
is there an update on if this is something your production team are implementing?
Hi Gareth Radley Chloe Bates, thank you for adding your support for this suggestion. At the moment we don't have updates to share about this option, however, we'll let you know in this thread if any changes are implemented in the future 👍
We are evaluating Wrike at present and also need this function. Will this be implemented or should we consider a different product?
Is there a roadmap available where we can see what is in the pipeline?

What about a private roadmap for Wrike customers?
It's a pretty hard sell getting companies to buy into Wrike when there's no way to tell them what additional features are on the horizon.

Adding my voice to this, even though it's been a year since the last update. I suspect people have given up hope of this fundamental feature ever being delivered.
