[Status: Not planned] Include custom fields when making task recurrent

Hi, love your function of making a task recurrent.

Please add the posibility to include the custom-fields from the master (original) task.

Hey Juan, and all the other wrike personel reading this...

I hope you're doing well. This issue is really pressing for our team, and frankly, it's a bit frustrating. Our team, and everyone else in this thread, relies on a particular functionality that's missing from Wrike, and we see it as more than just an "idea" or "suggestion." This is a REQUIREMENT for us, please treat it as such, and label it as such.

We've been checking out other project management tools like Monday.com, ClickUp, and Shortcut.com, and we've noticed that ClickUp has really nailed this feature. They even have an import function that makes it almost too easy to move our projects from Wrike to their platform.

Jira isn't quite there yet, but we're still curious if you know of any other competitors that can provide this functionality for those of us who need it.

We're long-time Wrike customers, and we want to keep working with you, but it's disappointing to feel like our needs are being brushed off. Labeling our requirement as just an "idea" or "suggestion" feels patronizing, and it's really disheartening. Please treat this as serious feedback from your dedicated customers.

Let's work together to find a solution that benefits both of us. We're counting on you to step up and make the necessary changes, or else we wouldn't be here.

On a closing note, we genuinely hope that you and your team at Wrike will truly listen to your customers' feedback. It's essential to recognize and address our concerns as valuable input to ensure mutual success and growth.

Kind regards,

Johan (TS, 4 years ago)

This is a feature that would save our team a lot of time. We populate Custom Fields on all tasks. 20% of tasks we create in Wrike are done so as a recurrence, so we are doing a fair amount of double handling with populating Custom Fields on these tasks. We can do table view updates and build automation rules but these are adding extra time in their own right too. Thank you!

Thanks a lot for sharing your use case Jess Cuddy 🙌 It looks like recurring tasks updates are on hold at the moment, but the team is planning to pick this topic up again in the future.

Hi All. I know I am late to the party, but my team just adopted a wider use case for Wrike and honestly, without the ability to transfer custom field values, having a recurring task saves me like 1% of the time it takes me to "do" the task in Wrike. We have over 25 custom fields that we use for reporting, some for compliance related reporting. Every Tuesday, I have 7 recurring tasks related to a podcast that I must project manage and get done with 4 other team members. That means every Tuesday, I'm wasting time answering the same 22 questions 7 times (I don't move month, year or compliance reviewer over--at least I don't want to, because that changes from week to week). What does Wrike consider to be the purpose of the recurring task? I've used Wrike consistently across two jobs for the last 3-4 years. I can't think of a single new product release during that period that would be as impactful as this one.

Hi Ann Murray, apologies for the delayed response. Thank you for sharing your use case with us, I've passed it on to our Product Team. Unfortunately, we have no updates to share about recurring tasks at the moment, but we will keep you informed if the situation changes.

Can I ask if Blueprints would be of use to you? You can save the task or project as a blueprint and the selected custom field values should be saved. When creating an item from that blueprint, the values added to the custom fields should carry over to the new item.

@... the problem with using Blueprints is the lack of automation. But say if you could make a recurring task based off a Blueprint that wouldn't be a bad idea. Maybe you can get the product team's thoughts on that one.

Mike is correct, @.... Blueprints are great for projects or tasks with a lot of detail. But they are less valuable in my case with tasks that repeat every week. In order to manage workload and pipeline we look ahead 30 days when assigning projects. With recurring, I can set it up to schedule 4 hour so my known projects are reflected 30 days out. With Blueprints, I have to manually create one for each week, and when thing get busy I might get behind. Then I get something assigned to me I don't have capacity for before I can get the next couple into Wrike. Being able to "Create recurring task" from blueprint would be amazing.

This would also be a big time saver for my team. Not sure if this nuance has been mentioned in the comments above but we'd need to be able to to dictate which custom fields on a custom item type we want retained and which we don't with each new recurrence Wrike creates. (i.e. inherit some from the previous instance, but leave others that users need to complete blank).

Almost 5 years and still counting for a simple ask like this one. Same with so many other user requests. You are killing your own product!

Jumping on the bandwagon to upvote this and get it moving forward into development. There are multiple threads and requests for this very useful and intuitive development that should have never been left out of the product plan in the first place.
