Headings to group tasks in a project

Please upvote if you think this would be useful.

Does anyone else feel the need for headings to group tasks together in a project. I have some projects with 30+ critical tasks that are overwhelming to see in a long list of items. I'd like to group by headings such as "Marketing" "Supply Chain" "Finance" "Legal". Tags don't work well since I want to be able to see them all in a list or gantt view and minimise/maximise the groupings.

What I'm using as a proxy at the moment is an unassigned backlogged task as a heading and putting the actual tasks as sub-tasks. It seems I'm not the only one doing this, I was looking through the community and found examples of others doing the same thing (see pic below).

This has been working well for me, but the only downside so far is that these headings show up as tasks in reports and I also cant organise tasks in reports by these headings.

Yes please!

Something like what MS Project does would be very helpful.

We broadly break our projects down into Engineering and Manufacturing with a bunch of sub and sub-sub tasks. These header tasks are not necessary and only used to allow for easier displays on the Gantt Chart. But as Eleshea says, they clog reports/dashboards.

Yes! It is so confusing having them as tasks rather than just a heading. No one needs to mark a heading complete. Great idea.

I'm thinking that if I can't group tasks under a title as shown above, I don't think I can use this software.  The example above, are you saying I can do that now, i.e., have a title or header that states ""DESIGN" with tasks listed under that header and do the same with other major tasks groups?  If so, how.  Thank you.

Hey Stanley Plant, and welcome to the Community!

It's possible to group tasks by Project/Folders in Reports. In the top left corner of the report, select "Group by" and choose what you would like to group by. This way, you would see all your tasks in the "Design" folder with the title as a header in the report.

Let me know if this helps, and if you have any questions, be sure to let me know.

YES!  I have migrated from Monday.com to Wrike.  And THIS is the single thing I miss most.  Please!

Same here,, now using TeamGantt and I am searching for a board/list/Gantt combination tool. Very much like Wrike as it is simple.

Problem is that I need to keep some stakeholders up to date on the big picture. This means they don't need to see alll tasks, but see how far we along the different phases of a project. Grouping or tagging helps a lot. Projects hides the tasks in the boards and list view, which is what I don't want.

Just wanted to add my voice to this suggestion - have been doing exactly the same thing as the OP for the last two years.

Was okay when we were just starting to implement Wrike, esp. since we're a small shop. But now, with hundreds of projects and thousands upon thousands of tasks, the unassigned tasks we use as headers are annoying and create unnecessary clutter.

Looking forward to the update!

Hi Ronald Bolijn, welcome to the Community! 🤗

There are no updates regarding this particular functionality, but have you tried using tags for that? You could use them as labels for tasks and, if opened in Table View, for example, you should be able to see which project/folder the task belongs to. Please let me know if you'd like to learn more on how to do this!

I just started using Wrike and looked for this feature within the first 30 mins! It is necessary for a project that has 100+ tasks. Please, please, please implement task groupings - both Asana and Teamwork have this functionality.
