[Status: Not planned] Dynamic Request Form: Conditional Follow Up Questions

I really like the dynamic request form feature, and use it often with being able to apply not only directing different answers from a drop down menu to different pages that may have have a different set of questions; but also to combine multiple request forms to make it 1 form. I.e. our Leave Request form is actually 6 different leave request forms in 1.

The only thing I don't find helpful is when I have a follow up question that I don't want to be redirected to another page. An example how I use conditional questions on the same page - "Do you require an item for this request?" [dropdown menu to include yes or no], follow up question now is "If yes, what is it that you require....etc." [question type dependent on what is being asked, short answer, checkbox, dropdown, etc.].

Currently it does not make sense to direct this question to another page because it would make the flow of questions for the user overly complicated (feedback we've received when we have multiple pages to a request form with only 1 follow up question), however, by keeping it on the same page I am unable to make the follow up question "required" as it might not apply to all requests. Even though it might actually be required in some circumstances. 

It would great if questions could be dynamic not only to be sent to other pages, but by finding a way to keep them on the same page, or make the "required" field dependent on answers.

Huge ask for us, others have articulate the requirement well. Looking to have nested or conditional questions in a form:

  • Question 1: Do you want fruit on your pizza? (Yes/No)

(After answering 'Yes' display questions 1.a through 1.c, if 'No', go to Question 2)

1.a) Pineapple [x]

(After selected 'Pineapple', show additional selections, if not hide them)

1.a.1) What form would you like the pineapples to be in (circles/chunks/paste)?

1.b) Orange []
1.c) Apple []

  • Question 2: Do you think Wrike should have implemented this back in 2017? (Yes/Yes)

Hi Lisa! Thanks for your prompt response, and no, I do not believe that will work. Our specific use case is for a new client intake request, where we record the products they plan to leverage as well as business considerations, integration plans, and other requirements.

It is not feasible to create a sub-page for every question, and most of the conditional questions are not generic. The goal is that we can use the intake form to pull in project blueprints into a project plan based on the client's selections. It doesn't appear this will work in Wrike out of the box, let me know if I've misunderstood your point or you need additional details.

1) Which products would like to leverage? [A,B,C,D,E,F,G]

2) You'd like to use Product A, how would you like to integrate? [API, Flat file]

  • 2.1) Product A - API - It is recommended that a client-established endpoint is stood up, will you be able to create one? [Yes/No]
  • 2.1.1) Product A - API - No Endpoint - The project will require posting data to our system instead of us reach out at time of user interaction. A corresponding hosted data agreement is required, was included in your original agreement? [Yes/No].

3) You'd like to use Product B, how would you like to integrate? [API, Widget Invocation]

  • Product B - API - You've selected API to integrate for Product B, do you plan on using feature B.1? [Yes/No]
  • Product B - API - B.1 - In order to use feature B.1, a unique identifier must be specified and obtained in order to retrieve....

I can see that in your case when every option in each question requires a separate follow-up, redirecting to the next page would make it more complicated. I think redirecting is still useful, but perhaps not for cases like yours. I'm sorry I wasn't able to suggest something different. I think that for now as this suggestion isn't on the team's short-term roadmap, helper text in the forms should help communicate the steps in the forms to your clients.

Hi Lisa - we have the same needs as Haakon Poulsen, where we need a unique set of questions/options for each answer they select in the drop down.   We are finding we have to make many request forms now to meet this need, where if we had conditional logic, we could combine most requests into a few forms.   Right now users have to sort through a long list of forms and I have not found a win to pin forms or star as favorites so they show up top.    This would be a big selling advantage for Wrike at companies as Wrike would offer more of a self-service desk since you can auto pull blueprints without project management support.

Wendy Pardo, I could definitely see us using this for other departments as well (user fills out form -> pull in blueprint based on answers -> triage to appropriate team/department -> assign resources and prioritize -> manage and complete project).

While tinkering with the options in Wrike, your method (many forms, many sub-pages) seemed like the best possible way to handle our ask. That creates a lot of complexity for users, maintenance overhead, and reporting issues (as you indicated). An alternative is to create a form with all possible questions and answers, any filling out hundreds of questions knowing that a huge percentage doesn't apply seems like a hellish scenario for all parties involved (just thinking of training staff to fill it out with the client caused me to shiver). We are trying to make Wrike our source of truth for project and client information; it seems like at least the data intake portion will have to happen elsewhere. Anyone monitoring this thread who is willing to share their solution of [conditional questions, branching, nested, skip/hide, etc.] for forms or surveys using Wrike and/or in conjunction with other tools, I would love to hear about it and really appreciate it!
