[Status: Not Planned] Allow default values for fields
When creating a task in a project, it would be nice to be able to specify somewhere default values for certain fields. In particular, for me, 90% of the tasks I create in my projects will be assigned to me. Having to manually selected "assigned to ME" for each new task makes task entry cumbersome for 90% of my tasks. If I could make this field default to ME, then I could change it in the rare event that it is for someone else. It may be useful for other fields to have default values as well, such as having the start date default to today. Other users may have other use cases for defaults. When creating a custom field, allow it to contain a default value as well.
To take it one step further, it may be useful to be able to set defaults by project or folder. For example, my folder for the projects for my employee Fred, could be set to default to Fred. etc.
Would be nice to have this for custom fields. Is the product team's roadmap available to view?

This would really reduce effort/time our PMs spend doing data entry instead of managing projects! Hope it gets on the roadmap soon!
I'd like to assign any task I create to me. I'm assuming I've just can't find the setting as I'm certain this would be an absolute basic feature! Please help!

It's truly a puzzle that this is not supported. Why do we use custom fields? Most often to inform business decisions through accurate and business relevant reporting. Not having a default value requires a manual intervention everywhere the field is used. Talk about automation ...
Hi Philippe Jamotte! As Amanda suggested earlier, this can be achieved by creating an automation rule. You could use a simpler rule:
Trigger: New item created
Action: Change Assignee - User who triggered the rule or The item author.
This will automatically assign the item to yourself when you create a new item. Please try it out and let me know your thoughts! 😊
