[Status: Released ๐] Task Templates option from the Request Form
I feel the Request Form was a great addition to Wrike. ย It just lacks the ability to make this request into a working ticket for someone to fulfill. ย Ex. ย We have people request a laptop via a Request Form to gather their specs. ย After they make this request, it is handed off to a technician. ย They have to follow a checklist to make sure all items are completed with that laptop build. ย Ex. ย Patches, Antivirus, Encryption, etc. ย But, the request form does not allow you to have a template added to the request form automatically. ย ย We used to do this by just duplicating a template, but just becomes tedious. ย
Hi John, thanks for sharing this idea! This is something we're looking at, and there's even an existing request for this on the Community. It would be great if you could add your vote to it (so all similar suggestions could be easily tracked) - Applying Template to Requestย :)
Hi John! I have some great news to share - we just released the ability to launch Projects from templates upon submitting a Request Form :) Here's what it looks like and how to set it up:
Happy to answer any questions about this, as well as hear your feedback about it!ย
This would work great for me if it was a Template from a Task. ย Any plans for this?
Hi John, thanks for following up! This isn't something we're currently working on, but I'll be happy to help with some tips on setting up your workflow to be based on Projects instead of tasks, if this is something you'd want to try out. It sounds like technicians have several steps they need to take care of, and depending on the amount of Requests you typically receive, it could potentially help to set the steps up as tasks instead of subtasks. I understand that when there are several Requests, this could result in a large amount of Projects, so this option would work best if the Requests are not numerous.ย
Another suggestion which could help in the meantime, though it's a workaround (and I understand you're looking for a solution here), is creating a question in the Request Builder which includes all points which the technician needs to check off. This question should be required, and can just have "Check me" or "Required" as the only answer option, so this is what the user would see:
ย
When the Request is submitted, the technician just needs to insert line breaks and add checkboxes to those options:
Once again I wanted to mention that this is a workaround, and I can definitely see how task templates would be the best option for your use case. I think other users would also be interested in this functionality, and it would be great to make theย title of your Community post include an indication of task templates, so it would be easier for others to find. Please let me know if you'd like me to help with renaming it, I'll be happy to assist. Looking forward to hearing from you! :)
Hiย Anastasiaย - We are using the workaround that you stated at this point. ย As you noted, it's a workaround. ย The Project as a Template does not work as we have too many requests that come in. ย I changed the title. ย Thanks for making suggestions.
Love this idea! Had put in another post about being able to either map sub tasks to a dropdown menu in the briefs or create a task from a template, so this would be perfect for us too!
I"ve also been communicating with Anastasia about the same request! ย I need template for tasks, not projects. ย the workaround doesn't suffice when there's more than oneย person working on the main issue -- being able to assign the subtasks to the relevant person is critical.
It's too tedious, and it's too prone to failure by my team to use the workaround.ย
I agree with everything that John has mentioned .
I just ran into theย same issue Johnย mentioned. Having some way to allowย requests to be createdย from a templated task (not just a project) would be idealย in order for us to append some additional information (like a checklist for our email reviews). Even just having a field option (in the form builder) for a text block could be helpful in the interim.
Upvoted - definitely would like to be able to make a task template rather than a project.
Our workaround is that we use a project template that hasย one task with a laundryย list of necessary subtasks, and the individual who is assignedย the project when the request comes in isย responsibleย for removing that one task to it's appropriate folder and deleting the project.
Voted for ! This is something we require as well.ย For similar reasons.
Yes this is something we needย
We are in serious need of task templates. We already have a great project structure and we simply need a task template for things like IT Support Tickets,ย Marketing Requests that have a few steps involved that require subtasks, Video Requests that have few small steps involved that require subtasksย but aren't a whole project.ย
Need this also urgently!
We also need this. Although the workaround from @Jocelyn Hancย is a good one. Thanks.
Hi everyone! I wanted to pop in and thank you for keeping the request active. @Lauren thanks for sharing your use case! I'm passing all of this on to our Product Team and will make sure to keep youย updated here if there is any news to share. :)
Need task template too...voted on this!

Yes. Need this urgently! Thanks
We also desperately need this feature as it solves many problems.ย I have multiple task templates using custom workflows and subtask lists which cannot be used in the request form system.ย Manually duplicating templatesย is too tedious, and converting to projects would not support custom workflows.ย I hope this feature makes it into the development timeline.
This would also be very helpful for us. Task templates all the way!
In the meantime, it wouldย be great to at least be able to better customize the title of the task that's created. E.g. sometimes we want a task's title to Include certain context, or we want the value of a field to appear both in the description and the title.
Completely agree with Rosalind! Some of our request forms have to ask the same question twice so we can get the info for Title AND the custom field it goes in. It would be nice to have it do both.ย
Upvote!
Our team has a need for templated tasks as well! We utilize templated projects, which work great in some instances, but for some things, a simple task (with a checklist associated), a specific workflow and a few custom fieldsย are needed. Because of all of this, a template is ideal, but having to use a templated project creates extra work because we then have to complete and archive the project when we complete the task - it's just a few extra steps and added work, which is not sustainable for our team.ย
Lauraโs use case is extremely articulate. We have the same need. We need to be able to have a request form kick off a task and set of subtasks into a particular project.
We are still really in need of this. The particular trouble we have is that none of the custom field data that can be applied to the template project from the form is applied to the sub tasks that are attached to that template project so everything has to be copied over manually. Three fileds on 10 sub tasks is a lot of manually dropdown adding.
We are in great need of this, too. I hope everyone is upvoting the top task -ย votes are the best way to get Wrike's attention!
Another vote for this need... Example use case would be creating a Request Form for onboarding a new employee, where submitting the request should create a new task with a bunch of pre-assigned subtasks in the New Employee Onboarding project.
Ideally, we'd also love to be able to map which task template to use based on the answer to a specific question (e.g. "Department" dropdown), similar to how you can redirect based on a dropdown question option.
(This is a re-post from an earlier comment that I accidentally posted from a test account I had set up -- I was advised by Wrike to delete that earlier post and re-post from my main account.)
Wanted to add another vote for this!ย
Another vote for this need!
This would be a great addition.
Hi all, I've updated the staus today. This is something our team have been thinking about a lot and have been researching and investigating. Once I have more information as the research develops. I'll be sure to update you here ๐
Note: very similar request to this one lives hereย and more information about what the statusesย mean can be found here.
