[Status: Released ๐Ÿš€] Completed projects

Completed

Is there any other way to remove projects from the projects list without deleting them or moving them to an archive folder?

As we have 5 levels in projects we should ceate an archive folder per level which resultst in over 100 archive folders.

Hi Wesley, welcome to the forums :)

We've never had a deactivate function for Folders and Projects, but we did do some redesigns any maybe that affected some functionality that you were previously using? You can search for Folders/Projects by clicking in the "Filter" field at the top of the Folder tree in the left-hand Navigation panel.ย There's also the option to star Folders/Projects so that certain items show up at the top of the list. Do either of those sound like something you were using before?

This is definitely something I would be interested in seeing as well. As the head designer, I have a lot of folders and projects and we're just starting. I'd like to see them go somewhere (gray out or something even) when they're complete so I don't keep thinking I need to work on them. I started by creating a "01. Completed Projects"folder, but I recently realized that some of my projects may have a similar name but in a different project folder and I can't just keep dragging them all into the completed projects folder without recreating the entire structure.ย

Hi Stephanie,

ย

thanks for your respond, i'm familiar with that funtion but unfortunatly that isn't a solution for my problem. Because I have lot's of similar folder/projectnames. The solution I suggested (and a lot of others with me ;-)) is really the outcome of the problemย for me.

ย And it really doesn't have to be al fancy and all, just a deactivate button on a folder/project and an extra filter option in the menu to show inactive folders/projects. I suppose the active tasks in inactive folders still have to showup on dashboards and others.

So I still hope you guys are going to build this :-)

Agreed with all!! I have the same issue and frustrations, how soon can we have completed project come off the menu?

Seems that a simple filter in the Project/Folder tree to filter out completed projects would be really easy to implement as a first step. Why would this take so long to implement given the amount of interest? Am using Wrike as a trial version and the amount of time to address this givesย me pause on my purchase decision.

I agree with you, Rick. It seems to me that the "project" aspects of Wrike are certainly a bit light on compared with the features for managing tasks. The balance needs to be addressed fairly quickly or I might have to give up on it too.

What I want from an Archive state or setting is for projects NOT to move. This isn't an efficiency problem for us.ย We have a pretty well-organized project hierarchy. I want the lefthand tree to only show currently-active projects; I don't want it to show projects that are completed. I also don't want to have to physically move completed projects into another folder, because that destroys their relationship to the overall project hierarchy.ย

I'd want to be able to access completed projects e.g. for quarterly reporting (here's what we've gotten done) or just for occasional reference, but don't want them cluttering up the left nav.ย

Ellen,

Well said.

That is exactly what I would like as well. I have no desire to have projects moved or maintain a duplicate hierarchy. ย Seem it would be simple to add a filter to the left hand pain to filter out completed projects.ย

@stephanie I just started evaluating wrike today and I already feel the lack of archiving. Please bring it up as soon as possible.

Is there an update on this topic? ย Our renewal is coming up shortly and I'm trying to decide if we will renew. ย This is a problem.ย

Hi all,

So I've been talking with renewals. Asked to speak with the Product Manager about this issue. This was the response. Really shocked..... this isn't how you develop and improve products.

Hi Steve,

I reached out to the PM and requested that there be time for him to set aside and speak with you and he declined.

He repeated what I already told you and said that while it is on the road map, he cannot guarantee that it will happen this year.

I am sorry I don't have better news for you.

Kind regards,
Amy

Stephanie, This is a fundamental feature that isn't that complicated to implement. ย Clearly many are asking for it. ย Ignoring your customers and refusing to even talk to them is unbelievable. Do so at your own peril. ย

@Stephanie @ Steven J Please keep this thread posted on your offline discussions. We're all anxious to have an archiving solution.
@Stephanie Is there anything we can do to make this a higher priority on Wrike's roadmap?

Just a quick up, as this topic is 2 years old discussion.ย

I just feel they are using Community management to keep on hold a critical feature that could be integrated so quickly using some quickwin in the meantime your dev team could work on a better solution...

A bit frustrating.... (here is one more tips from a competitor :ย https://asana.com/guide/help/projects/actions#gl-archive)ย

Your solution has a lot of good advantages, but seriously, that aspect and the way the problem is addressed is very weak., a shame.

I did have a conversation with a Product Manager last week. ย  One item that I clarified is that the most important item is to be able to filter projects by project status. ย  He was being thrown by the word "Archive". ย  At least for us; if there is a least a way to filter out complete projects so they are not viewable unless enabled; ย that's all we really need. ย ย

He is going to work on a Scope to present to his dev team on this and will get back to me within two weeks.

Hey, that is starting to look like a positive direction, hoping the scope would not be too long. But you are true, we don't care of the name, we care about having the feature of the ;) thanks for sharing the news

@Steven Any updates? We have a week left to consider purchasing Wrike for the full year. I'd like to know if this project is finally in the pipeline now afterย 2 years...

Our strong support to the proposal of Steven Johnson.

ย "Basically like a Task Disappears when completed. and to see them you have to use a filter to show all. ย Same idea for the Project Level. ย Basically there should be a ย Active/Completed/All views of the projects within the folders. ย  Maybe right click on a folder and it will give you a view option. ย  ย By right clicking on the project you should have the option to turn it to Archive Status"

We have been using Wrike for 2.5 years now, we have more than 12000 tasks within a Client/Project folder structure quite big.

ย

In our opinion, expanding the concept of filters available for tasks to projects would be usefull and would be "the Wrike way".

We do not like the proposal of Archiving Projects moving them to Archive folders by dupplicating the original Client folder structure.ย Our Project Structure within Wrike is designed on the basis of Client/Project... therefore we would like to keep one single root and have the ability to filter projects in a similar manner we can do with tasks.

Looking forward to some progress in this way.

Regards

I just got this update. ย I've been trying for the past six weeks to get any info since my call with a PM. ย  I would recommend that everyone calls their account manager and puts some pressure on this. ย

"Have an update for you. We are working on updating the folder structure in general to be more "Team-based" and this will impact the layout of folders in general.ย

ย
Once this is completed, the completed projects portion will be on the list. The whole idea is we have the Team based portion as a higher priority, and instead of rewriting code twice, we want to do it once with the update. "

@Steven Johnson - thank you for the ongoing updates and for continued advocacy for this functionality.

@Stephanie Westbrook and Wrike developers: Please be talking to your end users about what is really needed. "Team-based" is a concerning term, as there are so many interpretations. Teams like departments or teams like project teams of interdisciplinary SMEs? What is this going to look like? How did team based layout get prioritized over completed projects? Why can't they be developed in tandem?

How are changes going to be deployed? Will we have the option to activate when we are ready to deploy changes? We really NEED advance notice with clear explanation of the changes based on the complexity of folder structures that so many users on this thread have.

Hi all, we have an update for you.

We are working on updating the folder structure, in general, to be more "Team-based" and this will impact the layout of folders in general.

Once this is completed, the completed projects portion will be on the list. The whole idea is we have the Team based portion as a higher priority, and instead of rewriting code twice, we want to do it once with the update.

Once I have more concrete dates or further information, I'll update you here. Thank you!

@Stephen - Please define what Wrike deems "Team-based". (See my post just above yours on 10/19). How will this new functionality impact existing folder structures? How much advance notice and what details will Wrike provide before it is pushed to production?

๐Ÿ‘ Spot On ๐Ÿ’ก Innovative Approach ๐Ÿ’ช Stellar Advice โœ… Solved ๐Ÿช„ Remove Kudos

I'm coming up to the end of our pilot deployment of Wrike. Currently the inability to hide completed projects in the nav tree is a 'showstopper' for my organisation to progress with Wrike. We've worked around most of the other limitations, but this one really diminishes the usefulness of the program for how we want to use it.

Is this issue being addressed in upcoming updates, and if so, any indication of when?

Any update on the team based folder structure? As you won't imporove handling of completed projetect before that, there should at least an estimate on when we can expect an improvement.

A small improvement would be to change colour coding. Changing colour with each project status but keeping the colour for completed projects the same a for green does not make sense.

Dear all,

Let me remind our support to the proposal of Steven Johnson (see my comments in this thread dated October 19th, 2017)

Find below a screenshot with further expansion of our proposal.

Note that current Table View has already an option to "hide empty folders". We think that an evolution of this existing feature could be interesting for archiving projects within Wrike. The only addition would be the creation of an status "Archived" for Projects, then, projects with "Archived" status should not appear in any view (neither in Folder/Project tree) unless otherwise specified with an option "Show Archived Projects".

See attached screenshot for further clarification.

Please, expand the potential of the filters already existing in Wrike!

We consider workaround of dupplicating folder structure for archived projects is a mess that is not "the Wrike way" to do thinks smart and clear!

Looking forward to some positive feedback from Wrike Team

Regards

Miquel Brunet
