[From Wrike] Use Case Templates + Custom Item Types = ๐ฏ (plus video tutorials)
Hi folks!ย
We recently announced the release of a new feature in Wrike - Custom Item Types. As you may know, this release also includes updated Use Case templates - three of them now have pre-built custom item types and space-level automaton rules.
Today, weโd like to walk you through the updated Use Case templates and show how custom item types have improved them. We are also happy to let you know that this post includes demo videos for each of the updated templates - they are great for a deeper dive into the templatesโ structure, and are also tutorials for the custom item type functionality ๐ย
There are currently three updated use case templates available to you - Service Management, OKRs, and Team Agile - Scrum.ย
Service Management (ESM)
The Enterprise Service Management (ESM) template enables you to introduce consolidated request management processes that reduce manual and mundane work via Automation, streamlined request, and knowledge base management. It is focused on IT as well as other lines of business Service teams.
Wrikeโs Service Management solution can help you to:
- Automate time-consuming or mundane work with no-code business logic (sample rules are provided out-of-box)
- Create custom service requests for departments or teams (using the value of request forms and relevant work items based on Custom Item Types)
- Enable and leverage a knowledge base resource to help teams adapt to change
The Service Management template has multiple Custom Item Types out-of-the-box, including Service Requests, Incidents, Knowledge Base Articles, Change Requests, Problem Records, Customer Surveys, and Meeting Minutes. Admins can duplicate out-of-box item types, adjust them to their organizational needs and build their own types.
Please check out the video tutorial for this template here.ย
OKRs for Strategic Planning
The Objectives and Key Results (OKR) template, designed for Strategic Planning, allows the merging of top-down and bottom-up goal management and planning by focusing on business results, outcomes, and relevant deliverables rather than just outputs. This pre-built template helps to define the steps for achieving quarterly objectives and key results, or OKRs.ย
With Wrike's OKR template, companies are now able to manage objectives, key results, and deliverables in a simple manner while communicating and aligning across the entire organization what teams are currently focusing on and what is their execution progress. Team leaders can define measurable steps aligned with company goals, track progress and enable visibility of how individual work affects company goals.ย
Multiple platform building blocks helped our team to build this use case template to correctly design OKRs and monitor execution progress.
- Organize individual, team, or company OKRs with foldersย
- Track OKR progress with reports and dashboards
- Engage automation rules, workflows, and custom fieldsย
- Tailor your teamโs workload with Custom Item Types
This template has multiple Custom Item Types to get you started, including Objectives, Key Results, Action Items, and Deliverables.
Here are two video tutorials to help you get started with this use case template:ย
Team Agile - Scrum
The Agile template is based on Scrum Framework and it helps with managing sprints and different types of work such as feature work or bugs via clear processes and automation. It can be used not only by IT or Dev Product teams but also for other lines of business like Creatives.
The Agile project management methodology can help you create an effective structure to tackle incoming requests efficiently. The redesigned Agile teamwork template will help structure work in sprints, collect Scrum notes, and guide teams through their backlog to deliver results every time. It helps Wrike users to prioritize a backlog for planning, managing sprints, and tracking progress using reports.ย
Here are the main capabilities of this template:ย
- Submit product bugs with customizable dynamic request forms
- Use the Agile framework space to organize folders and subfoldersย
- Engage in high-level planning with a configurable calendar
- Track progress with reports and dashboards
- Leverage automation rules, workflows, and custom fieldsย
- Tailor your Agile workload with Custom Item Types
This template also has pre-built Custom Item Types to get you started, including Action Items, Bugs, Epics, Features, Meeting Notes, Sprints, and Stories. As usual, admins can duplicate out-of-the-box item types, adjust them to their organizational needs and build their own types, like Sprint Review, Retro, and others.
And hereโs the video tutorial for the Team Agile template.

I finally had time to start really digging into the Custom Item Type templates and got distracted by the RACI template in the library. That library has too much good stuff in it. Going back for Custom Items as soon as I finish my RACI for our Prod Dev packaging conversations starting up again next week.
Whew!

This could be just the cure for many of our filtering and view woes. Is it possible to convert an existing task into a custom type?
Welcome to the Community Travis Premo, and thanks for reaching out! This is not possible at the moment, but our team is working on this ๐
