[From Wrike] New Layout and Functionalities of Item View ๐Ÿ’š

Angeheftet Angesagt

Hi Community!

This week, we have more exciting news about Item View in Wrike! Our Product Team continues to improve the functionalities (and layout ๐Ÿ˜Ž) of this essential part of the Wrike Lightspeed experience and these are the latest changes you will notice as of today:

  • With the new layout, you will see your data displayed in one column instead of two. Hereโ€™s how the Item View looked previously:

Now, to access tasksโ€™ properties and custom fields, you can click on the collapsible menu located on the right-hand side of the view ๐Ÿš€:

  • All inherited fields will remain in the โ€˜More fieldsโ€™ section. This part of the view is expanded by default to facilitate access to the most used fields in the item ๐Ÿง  These changes allow a better distinction between configurable and non-configurable fields in Custom Item Types.ย
  • Among the most remarkable enhancements of the latest updates is the new custom field search bar ๐Ÿ” which allows searching fields by name or value ๐Ÿคฉ:

  • A new status checkbox โœ… allows you to mark a task as completed - and comes with a cheerful animation ๐Ÿ˜
  • All customers with access to Item View have access to the updated view ๐Ÿ’ช

Have you already tested the new look and feel of the Item View? Please, let us know in the comments if you have any questions or thoughts about it.

Looking forward to your feedback! ๐Ÿ™‚

I personally prefered it in the side column. There is sometimes very important information which now can be easily overlooked. ๐Ÿ˜• The colorcoding helped too.
Now certain information is only really prominent in the table view. ๐Ÿ˜ข

The direction of the chevrons is confusing to me. It points to the right but opens downward.ย

I can certainly adapt to the layout change, but my preference was the side-by-side layout. It made more sense to me and was easier to find the fields. Both are collapsable so they won't get in the way when working on the task.ย

I preferred the side by side as well but some users missed the heirarchy of the old layout, so they may be happy with this. I feel like this will take some additional training. Also not seeing this updated in the custom item set up yet. I would like that to show the same layout as what users will experience when I'm setting them up.ย

I also preferred the side bar for the fields. We had curated many of our custom item types to show exactly what we needed all in one view, but now we will have to revisit since things like assignee, date, and status are hidden.ย

Appreciate that we can search through custom fields or their values, though!

I definitely like the top view over side.ย  We have 50+ custom fields, which is a LOT of scrolling ... and try using Wrike on a laptop during a meeting or connected to an old monitor/projector with low resolution and your columns are miniscule. Screen real estate is important for usability. This was one of the primary reasons we have not jumped on the Lightspeed bandwagon yet. Thank you for making this update!

Showing custom fields on the right side was a bit more efficient. I wouldn't mind this UI change if we weren't limited to 3 items showing by default (status, assignee, date). I would prefer to choose additional meta data to show by default. At a minimum, the location should be easier to access.

Edit: Also, now I have a blank space on the right side when viewing items from my inbox. I think the layout of the page should be updated to use this space.

I agree with all the views above, like Ken Hayes, we too have many custom fields and relatingย  these custom fields to the latest comments is a big task now. Its very time consuming. My speed of work has got drastically reduced since yesterday when the side bar was removed.
@...Juan Please reverse this or give a button to choose to go back to the previous version.

I also prefer the side bar so that I could see the data there and the details section at the same time. This is too much to scroll through to see things like locations, dates, custom fields and the description.

Side by side meant I could see more information at a glance. And if I needed more real estate on the screen while working, I could collapse the side bar. I need the option of keeping that data in the side bar. The workflow was much better that way.ย

Hello Juan,

I definitely preferred the fields in the side column. They were easy to dismiss if you wanted more space, but by default were quickly available for reference. While the new field search tool might be useful for some, having quick access to the fields that I've laid out in the custom item view is preferable. I would have preferred that this feature were tested out in Wrike labs before springing it on us. It's one of the few regressive moves Wrike has made in the 9 years I've been using it.

Best,
Stephen

My team has spent the last six months perfecting our Wrike process and transitioning everyone over to it from a different platform. We specifically decided to use custom item types because of the two-column view, which allowed us to view the details from our intake form while simultaneously assigning values to the custom fields. We have three meetings each week just for this process of reviewing new tasks together and assigning values to the custom fields. I'm normally okay rolling with the punches of new Wrike changes, but this update has drastically affected our entire workflow. We now have to continuously scroll up and down as we go back and forth reviewing information and updating the custom fields.ย

I understand that for different use cases, it's helpful to hide all the custom fields at the top, so I'm not asking you to get rid of it completely. What I would love to see is a new option allowing users to select the default Item View layout for either an entire space, or for a specific custom item type. This would allow those of us who need the two-column view to still use it, but others can opt for the new dropdown option.

Appreciate you all listening to our feedback, and hopefully a solution to this can be rolled out very soon!

Opening "More" or "Less" Custom Fields in the new way is a time-consuming process, and it becomes challenging to view both the custom fields and the task context simultaneously. If the layout were designed with 2-3 columns, it would occupy less space, even with a large number of custom fields. Additionally, when a specific project is added to the Location, the custom fields do not appear automatically as they are project-configured. To see the custom fields, it requires refreshing the screen every time.

The new "feature" has caused difficulties for my team and me, as we require simultaneous visibility of the custom fields and task details. Unfortunately, this update has introduced additional clicks, increased scrolling through tasks, and ultimately slowed down our workflow and team meetings.

The recent change that hides the custom field list, even in custom item types, is creating additional work for our team. It seems that the previous format, where custom fields were displayed on the side by default, was preferred. I understand that this change is making it more challenging to adopt Wrike within larger organization.

๐Ÿ‘ Spot On ๐Ÿ’ก Innovative Approach ๐Ÿ’ช Stellar Advice โœ… Solved ๐Ÿช„ Remove Kudos

The current approach for accessing "More" or "Less" Custom Fields is extremely time-consuming and hinders the ability to simultaneously view both the custom fields and task context. If the layout were structured with 2-3 columns, it would occupy less space, especially when dealing with multiple custom fields. Moreover, since our custom fields are project-specific, they do not automatically appear when we add a particular project to the Location. Instead, it needs to refresh the screen every time to access the custom fields. Is there a way to reverse this and have the custom fields displayed automatically without the need for manual refresh?

Personally I prefered side view but I will discuss it in the team tomorrow. As suggested above it should be made a setting.

Also agree with Stephen that this should be released in labs first. It is a big change that impacts users that don't do good on changes and needs stability

we would like to adjust the manual for our employees on lightspeed, but there will be changes every week. When is the best time for us to do this?

I request the creation of a button that allows individuals to select their preferred visualization from two options. Personally, and in alignment with previous feedback, we also favor the previous visualization. It is important to maintain this as an available choice. Implementing such a significant change without consulting all users would be inappropriate.

I kindly request your assistance in creating a button that allows users to choose between two visualizations. Personally, and in agreement with previous comments, we also prefer the previous visualization.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could incorporate a button that allows users to select their preferred visualization from two options. In line with the feedback received earlier, our preference aligns with the previous visualization. It is essential to maintain this as a viable choice, as implementing such a substantial change without consulting all users would be inappropriate.

We kindly request the addition of a button that enables users to choose between two visualizations. It is worth noting that, like the previous comments, our preference also leans towards the previous visualization. Ensuring its availability as an option is crucial since implementing such a significant change without consulting all users first would be too drastic.

@... It has made a very negative impact on my working. In our case there are many custom fields and all those are to be read/analysed/understood in the context of the comments being posted in the task. Many of these fields are configured to the projects i.e. when a task is housed in a particular project only then the fields will appear in the task. And with this new change, when the task is housed in a project, the fields will not appear automatically, one has to refresh the task and then those fields will appear. This has reduced my speed of working.ย  My suggestion is that you should provide a toggle to visualise all the fields in the sidebar. and also make the sidebar view compact so that more fields can be viewed at one time without scrolling.

Hello,
We'd also like to get the old view back with the custom fields on the right. This new view really doesn't suit our needs. We chose WRIKE over all the other tools because of its much-needed custom fields, and hiding them by default is not at all what we want. I understand the appeal of this display on mobile, but definitely not on desktop, where the wide screen allows multiple columns to be displayed comfortably. The result is extremely large fields, 90% of which are empty (as you can see in the screenshot send by SV -). Instead of relevant information, we have wasted space.
Having implemented Wrike fairly recently, I don't think this is a resistance-to-change problem, but rather a UI issue. The feedback from our entire team and the various comments here seem to support this view.

I agree with most other users here, for custom fields the sidebar works better, because the field's width and scrolling when there are too many of them.

If this proposal might work for others, can you please like the comment so maybe Wrike will take it into consideration.ย  I have also submitted this as Feedback here.

I have mentioned numerous times to our account management team over the years that the layout of the custom fields need reworked.ย  The customer needs more control over them.ย  Here is what I have proposed:

1). Add a dedicated row (or dropdown list) for CF Groups at the top of the Project Details and Task screens

2). Allow the customer to label these group names as needed (e.g. Budget)

3). Allow the customer to decide which CFs go into each CF Group (e.g. all budget related CFs in Budget) - perhaps you could use similar code that you use for the selecting the CFs to add to Table View?

4). Allow the customer to arrange the viewable CFs in each CF Group by the order needed - preferably in a way that doesn't require creative naming.ย ย

5). Keep the multiple columns (at least 2) when the fields are displayed - this will also further reduce scrolling on the screen.ย

The above approach would allow the customer to only display those fields they need to view for that task or project.ย  It will would shorten the number of fields displayed on the screen (less scrolling) and it would help us keep them organized.ย  If we can have CFs grouped, we would likely no longer need to prefix every CF name so they are ordered together.ย  We have some really long CF names that may only have 3-5 characters of data in them - all because we have to prefix the CF to organize them.ย  Long CF names make the columns realllllllllly wide in some views (e.g. Table) and in some reports.

We appreciate that Wrike is trying to come up with a solution. Hopefully you will allow us to help with that.

This is incredibly frustrating actually.ย  I've spent a ton of time getting our custom item views set up and this feels like a huge step backwards.ย  I set up the custom item views specifically to give my team the information they need at a glance, and this hides it all completely behind a click.ย  Additionally, putting it into one column makes it so you cannot view the custom field data and the comments at the same time, which is a major pain since you now have to scroll back and forth to double check things constantly.

๐Ÿ‘ Spot On ๐Ÿ’ก Innovative Approach ๐Ÿ’ช Stellar Advice โœ… Solved ๐Ÿช„ Remove Kudos

While I really appreciate that Wrike is always trying to improve on their product this layout change is not an improvement!

My team sometimes has a "out of sight, out of mind" attitude and now that the custom fields are multiple clicks aways they're even less likely to fill out the fields. Compared to last week, I've spent significantly more time this week either reminding people to fill out their fields or doing it for them. Multiple of my team members have even asked how to switch it back and they normally don't notice Wrike updates.

Please make the one column vs two column view a setting!!

The side bar was better for us as well. This info I want to see is now hidden behind a click and the task looks different to how I set it up in the custom item type.ย

We discussed this in the team, we can get used to the new layout but we prefer too have the option to choose between side by side and the new layout.

The strange thing is that when making custom item types the layout is still side by side...
