“I spent 45 minutes looking for the perfect playlist to get in the zone... ended up listening to random YouTube videos instead and got nothing done. 😂
#ProcrastinationAtItsBest”
I wanted to quickly discuss something with a colleague before entering a 3h side quest journey and in the end got nothing done😅
This is embarrassing - I was planning out a project but refused to start until I had the right color of dry erase marker. It took me well over an hour before I was convinced to give up looking and just use the red marker I had.
Is that procrastination or obstinacy?
Couldn't start work until I had a dinner I wanted but couldn't have while wife is around (there are foods she doesn't like so I rarely have them when she is home) but then spent 30+ minutes lookin at multiple restaurants with decision paralysis unable to make a choice and ended up just going to one of our usual places. All just to avoid grading papers
I sometimes use music to help me focus on complicated tasks, but if it's to complex, the music itself can get the most attention...
I decided that it would be best to figure out which baseball cap looked best for my day even though I was working from home. Took an hour before I could actually start my day.
Waiting on someone to reply to me in Wrike when I'm fully engaged in a project knowing darn well I may not get a answer on that day even.. Having that Song in my head, Get in the ZONE autozone.. LOL Is that really Procrastination when I'm trying to be productive! =)
I actually keep a short list of side efforts that need some attention from my perspective but that little to no one else will care about. So when I need a diversion to give a formal task time to gel, I pick up one of those for a few minutes.
Last week I procrastinated starting a load of laundry by... cleaning the rest of the house? Sometimes brains make no sense.
I was going to log in a little earlier this morning to get organized before some back-to-back calls, but decided it would be the best time to clean my kitchen, from the backsplash and right down to the oven knobs! 😅🧽
I spent 1 hour trying to fix a formula finally to realize that someone deleted the reference sheet on server
I can spend hours trying to pick right icons for almost every word in my ppt presentations
Does it count when I say I go here instead of working on Wrike tasks?
I delayed doing laundry by watching YouTube tutorials on how to fold fitted sheets. Now I’m a folding pro, but still out of clean socks. 🤣
Back in the old days before Spotify when you would download your own music song by song, I once refused to get started on a project until I had a new album released fully loaded and transferred to my iPod. Oops.
I think I can say - that sometimes when I get overwhelmed with all the stuff I have to do - and instead of getting focused - I end up scrolling wikipedia and reading totally random historical facts!
Once dropped a small container, a little larger than a quarter, down the side of my couch. I meant to pick it up but forgot. About a month later, I dropped 2 blueberries down the same spot. Went to pick them up before they stained my carpet and found that they had landed inside the small container from before.
Before I start on a new large project I have to hype myself up. Whether it's with the right music and/or the right inspiration. Then I tend to find myself distracted and will spend time instead organizing my files or realizing my desk needs dusting or just about any other thing than getting started.
A search for something to wear to a special event, ended with me cleaning out my entire closet. Still have no idea what I am wearing to my party.
I'm a procrastination cleaner! My college roommate was the same way - during finals season our apartment was *spotless* but our final exams and term papers weren't!
I'm with Eva Jouaux, I come here when I procastinate. I also snooze my Wrike notifications for three hours if I don't want to address the issue.
I will fall into the vicious cycle of realizing I have not reached out to a friend for a while, feel guilty for how long it has been, and then not reach out since I don't want to deal with the guilt. Thus, causing the time gap to get larger...Only to not care how long it has been when a friend reaches out to me. I just get happy. I need to get myself to realize the guilt is only on my side and I should just reach out to them when they are on my mind!
Cynthia Sperry - Can you come over to my house the next time you want to procrastinate?
Sometimes when I'm not feeling in the right headspace or have hit a wall to work on tasks, I give myself the ol' reboot by taking a nap. 😅
I often vet projects for the creative team by reviewing the brief to ensure the info is good enough to kick off. If there are links to inspiration on social media I click on them...then scrolllllllllll for far too long!
Kendra Ciszczon I'm very guilty of that. It even happens with my siblings!
I tend to do my best work when I'm crunched for time, so I procrastinate a lot on purpose. 🙃 One time I did a 30 minute all-company presentation that got rave reviews, and no one knew I used Wrike's generative AI to create the outline and all I did was just tweak it in about 45 minutes the afternoon before.
Every tax season, I procrastinate uploading the necessary documents to my accounts' secure web portal by playing an old action-type video game on my home computer. I tell myself I will only play for a minute or two, but hours later, I'm still at it with nary a W2 or bank statement scanned, and my wife asking from downstairs how it's going :).
Take my dog for a walk instead of reviewing projects.
My wife bought me a great shirt that had a funny definition of procrastination NSFW, I haven't worn it yet.
