Dashboard Parameter Limitations

Hello! I am a huge fan of Wrike, especially the new dashboards. I was thrilled to see the announcement of Dashboard parameters, which appeared to be a feature I've been waiting for years. Alas, the feature is too limited to actually be of use for my company. We use a custom field to keep track of the project ID associated with all work (tasks, projects, etc). It would be incredibly useful to be able to filter a dashboard by the project ID, but that is not possible with the current parameters limitations. Dashboard parameters would be a game changer feature for my company if we could use them to filter by text field. I hope that this is a feature that is considered in the future!

Sam, thank you for your feedback and we are planning further improvements to the parameters in the near future.

Please allow me to echo this need! I would love to be able filter my dashboard by 1) Space 2) Task/Project Priority. I use dashboards to pull together data from across multiple spaces (using the "Entire Account" location) so this would be huge. (the current UI for parameters is also a little clunky).

Do you have any updates or a roadmap you can share?

Need date-based parameters added as well so we can see things "going live", closing, or completed within date-based ranges (this year, last year, this quarter, last quarter, etc etc).

Teddy and Amy, thank you for your feedback! Can you please share the use cases you need parameterization by space, priority or dates for?

Hi Vladimir Bugay, As I said in my comment, we need to be able to filter all widgets in a dashboard to see things like what is "going live" (based on a custom field we use for go live date), or what is expected to close (Based on finish date), or what projects/tasks were completed (based on completed date) within a date range parameter. Having to manually filter every single widget individually and/or create multiple versions of our dashboards to be able to achieve this is cumbersome (especially since the Tools section can't be organized into folders), and it's just not logical that if we have these as widget filters we shouldn't also have them as dashboard parameters.

Vladimir Bugay Thanks for the opportunity to weigh in. Totally agree with Amy Augustyniak. Here are my thoughts:

  1. My department works across several brands, divided into Spaces. Each week at our kickoff meeting we look at a dashboard together with a mashup of all the current "sprints," high priority tasks, etc. across all the Spaces, pulled together by various filters including custom fields. We currently look at it all at once, which can be overwhelming. However, it would be great to be able to simply toggle between spaces, which for us would effectively allow us to look at the project pipeline by brand.
  2. Similarly, it would be great to be able to just look at high priority tasks when desired.

Ultimately, the parameters seem to hold tons of promise: build one dashboard sourced from everywhere for my purposes, but then have a series of filters along the top that allows my team to make the dashboard helpful to them with just a few clicks (ie - show my tasks/projects, related to brand A, that are high priority).

We ran a PowerBI dashboard a few years ago, and it had this ability. Here's how filters (parameters) work on PowerBI. From top-to-bottom, you can see that you can apply filters (parameters) at the visual (widget) level, the page (section) level, or the all pages (dashboard) level:

Teddy, we have just released an update that enables parameterization by location. The main use case for it is switching between projects but you can use it equally well for switching between spaces. Please give it a try and let us know how does it work for you.

Hello Vladimir Bugay
I hope Wrike is still working on adding parameters based on text fields (right?) or should I put in a separate request for that?

Our use case: non-Wrike users submit requests via a public form, where they type in their own name in a text field. Since that field is not a pick list, we can't add it as a dashboard parameter to allow them to filter a public dashboard by their own name.

Thank you.

Hello Sergey Lyakh!

We have good and bad news.

The bad one is that we don't currently work on parameters for text fields.

The good is that we are currently implementing new filters which are more powerful than previous ones. These filters will be available in Dashboards and main Wrike views. After new filters will be in place we will be able to improve (add new types) the parameters panel.

Stay tuned!

Another good parameter would be by @groups for team dashboards.

Can a parameter be added to a dashboard from a Datahub database?

It would be great if when using the location parameter and a project is selected if we could pull in that top level project information. When I have the parameter set to an entire space, I can see the top level information, but as soon as I say I just want to see One project in that dashboard, I lose the top level parent project information:

Short of creating a parent folder for each project, is there a solution for my issue?

Ashley Fischer, I just open the item in a new browser tab or in the sidebar. Unfortunately, the controls aren't always consistent: depending on the item or where you're opening it from, sometimes a left-click will do, other times a middle click, and other times you have to find the option to open in new window.

Is it (no longer) possible to add more than one folder to the Location parameter?
In the image above posted by Vladimir the help text says "Add more project, folder or ..." but now it only seems to be possible to have one location and switch between them?

Why this limitation? Is there any way to add two or more different locations to the filter?

Is there any ETA on when the newer filters from the Lab will be available in all views / Dashboards instead of only in the table-view?

And could you please add a filter that filters on weekday, in the same way as the this week/day/month, next week/day/month filters. i.e. this Monday, next Monday... That would help when doing a week-calender style dashboard.

Text fields/Date Fields (like completed date) would be super helpful also.
