[Status: Launched! ๐] Customising Project status
Is it possible to customise the status dropdown list for a project?
I'd like to have more specific labels than Red, Yellow and Green, and add a few more statuses.

Hi Mike, we've struggled with the same issue as well. The workaround we've recently implemented has been leveraging Custom Fields where I designed a dropdown with our own status needs at the Project level and titled it "Project Status". During reports, we can then filter by this new Custom Field.ย Hope this helps.ย
Hi Jonathan,
Thank you for this info!ย That makes sense.ย I'll do that for now and hope that Wrike enables us to Customize it soon!
Thanks again!
-Mike
So excited you working on this one!!
We'd love to be able to have custom workflows at the Project Status Level: the Project follows the customized workflow / overarching steps of a unique project type, while the tasks for that project follow the standard New / In Process / Complete steps an individual would follow to complete a task.ย
aka - It would be nice to be able to apply custom workflows to the project status field if you'd like.
I was surprised this wasn't implemented from the begining. This is an extremely important feature for our team, if not a must have!
Keep up your good work!ย
FYI for anyone looking for a temporary work around while custom workflows for projects is being worked on, you can create custom table fields & map reports & dashboard widgets to them. Just need to make sure to select a folder location to enable the "Add more filters" option in your widget (not sure why it forces you to select a folder). This won't allow you to click & drag projects from status to status in the Dashboard view like you can with Tasks, but at least you can get a quick view of how all your projects are tracking (you will need to add the custom filter & map a new widget for each of the status options you want to include on your Dashboard to get this view):

Might as well add our voice to this long long long list
This has been a request for a long time. CAN WE GET AN UPDATE??

I am wondering what it would take to give Project Status a way to be customized much the same way that Custom Workflows do. Here's the idea... We are a very customized creative shop and have very specific Project Statuses that are unique from the Task Statuses. Since there are a limited list of Project Statuses available, it would be nice to have a custom option like the Workflow does.
When I'm setting up reports, I want to be able to show the current status of a project in more detail than Green, Red, Yellow, Completed, On Hold or Cancelled.
It would be nice to be able to EITHER indicate a certain stage like "In Print" "Pending Payment" or Proofing" as a dropdown and/or a text entry...
OR automatically reference the current task in the dependency (gantt chart) or another field selection.
For example, if the project has 10 tasks that are in order and connected by dependency (which 99% of ours are), then the project status could be setup to retrieve the name of the current task or the name of the most recent completed task. So if tasks 1, 2, and 3 have been completed, then the status would automatically show task 4 as the current task at hand.
As I'm sure some have mentioned, the task status report is tedious to view and provides more information that is necessary for a manager or even a client-side report. Because the real question from the manager or client is,
"Where are we on this project? What is the STATUS?"
And the answer can never be, "Well, Bob, it looks like it's Green." And we can also not say, "Well, Step 1 is Complete, Step 2 is Complete, Step three is In Progress, etc..."
It would be much better to simply be able to scan the report and see an easy summary of what the actual status is by project... not every single task.
I realize that not all companies have the same need as ours, but I can bet you that the project status report telling everyone that the projects are GREEN is not cutting it.
Give us some control there if possible.
I am sure the answer is no :(ย but anyway we can get some expected timeline?ย This would be a great feature for us.ย If it is going to be another year I might use custom statuses, but if sooner I would wait for it to roll out.
Hey guys! Is there any tempted date for this update to be released?ย
Wrike I'm astounded that after more than 18 months you still haven't implemented this, especially after so many complaints from customers! ย We are currently trialling your system and it gives me little to no confidence to continue on with your product if this is how you treat your customer's feedback and opinions on such a small fix. ย Extremely disappointing to see.
Yes, it's truly unbelievable..
Totally agree... after 18 months and nothing?... such a basic feature of every PM software....
Would just like to add that I'm a new user about to roll Wrike out to my team, and I agree that project statuses of Green, Yellow, Red, etc are not useful in any way for my clients or executive leaders. I really do need a way to edit these in the same way that I can edit workflows. Thanks!
Should be very nice and usefull!
This thread has been alive for almost two years. When is it actually going to happen?
It is one condition for us to buy and use Wrike. When will it be implemented?
I have to admit I find the slow development pace and lack of roadmap to be concerning.
We have been waiting for this feature for quite sometime now as it would better suit our requirements for PM.ย An update on this would be very much appreciated from Wrike.ย ย
Ill add to this as its over 2 years old, and still not an option.
In relation to this - it would be VERY helpful to have to ability to structure standard projects / processes so that when marked tasks are completed the overall Project Status is updated to the next step in the project work flow -- making it much easier to have an accurate quick overview of the status on all the projects.
Great idea Karina.
We would love to see Wrike have the ability to auto-complete a project when all tasks are completed in the project and have the project move to a "completed" folder. We are going to try to work around with some of the Wrike Integration pieces with Workato and see what we can develop ourselves.
Hey everyone, thank you so much for your input, you can't imagine how much we appreciate it ๐ I have exciting news for you: the feature is expected to be released in Q2 2019 ๐ It takes a lot of time as this is a core feature and a lot of changes had to be made, and are still in progress. I'll update this thread when it's released, and thanks so much for the feedback!

Just to keep the heat on this topic, we too would very much like to see this capability introduced. Looking forward to the announcement celebrating the launch of it in Q2.
Also desperately awaiting this feature.
Also very much in need of this feature.ย
I agree with the sentiment.ย As the Senior Project Manager, I have successfully onboarded and 'sold' Wrike to the entire Exec and Senior Management Team.ย However, until this feature is added, along with a few others, our CFO wants to wait to add any more User Licenses.ย This feature seems simple, yet is a big deal for reporting purposes.ย Thanks,ย Mike
This seems so obvious for a PM tool: indicate the status of a project in relation to its overall life-cycle (which could be different depending on the type of project). Ironically, Wrike provides much of this functionality for tasks (in the form of custom status and workflows). We perform a bunch of extra steps and create extra tasks just to track the project's status. For example, what environment(s) has code has been deployed to, and which projects would be impacted by a code rollback or promotion? Timing and coordination are impossible without meaningful project statuses. Picture a Board view where you could see all your projects, those new or in planning on the left side, those under construction in the middle, those ready for final approval and release on the far right. Speaking of releases, how does Wrike track the status of projects like this one (and when can we expect it)?ย ย
Hey Ellen,
Right now, the best we have is the status tag added into the title of the community post. You can look at what each of them mean here. The "Coming Soon" currently applied to this post appears to mean that they're planning to implement this feature but haven't started developing it yet. Normally, we don't get very specific release timeframes if any.
Just to quote a Wrike team comment in this thread:

We should expect this by June 30!
Any thoughts around adding a Due Date field for Projects. Currently tasks have start/due/completed attributes, but Projects just have Start/Finish. It would be nice to have Start/Finish/Due.
