[Status: Not planned] Getting notes to show on reports

I use the description field on each task to keep track of what I am doing for that particular item.  Meaning, if I have to make multiple calls or send several emails to accomplish something, I will add whatever notes I have to this field.  It is easy to use and easy to view when you open the task.  With that being said, I have superiors who do not use Wrike and want updates on my projects.  This means they cannot click on a task to view my notes.  The only option available at this time is to create a custom text field.  This is not a user friendly field when notes can be quite substantial and requires additional clicking to get to when inside a task, but it will print in totality when I add this field to my reports.  This allows my superiors to view my notes, but makes my daily updates harder.  I either have to 1) click into the tiny field and scroll through or 2) I have to update two sections where all of my notes are in the description and only the most recent update summary is listed in the custom field.  

It was explained to me that the description may not be possible to add as a selection to the report filters because it allows for different items to be added other than text.  I am looking for a viable solution since 1 and 2 listed above are not acceptable.

I totally agree with above discussion. We would really need to be able to display some kind of status notes in the report.

Using the custom fields is really not very nice.

This is typically something which is available in Asana for example in the project Dashboard. You don't see all the status notes but at least, you can see the last information.

If we could hear that this is in your roadmap would be nice.

Completely support all the comments on here.

You can export the contents of the table view of a folder/project to excel but it pulls out all the columns. I would like to be able to extract just certain columns for different types of reports - as you can do with reports - but need to include description

On board with this as well. To have a notes area, especially for a report that will be client-facing, would save the need to create a status type document outside of Wrike which is what we are currently doing. And no, collaborators is not an option for us with our clients at this time. I am really hoping this becomes incorporated sooner than later as it really would help our specific group use Wrike even more knowing what kinds of detail we can create in a simple report for clients. Our teams are still slowly getting used to the idea of Wrike so this would be an item on the Pro list as to why it needs to be used across the board, globally. I see this thread was started 2 years ago and folks still have the desire to incorporate notes or some kind of custom note field, with ample text space, into reports. WRIKE TEAM - I hope this is heard and gets done. Would be amazingly useful!

Just piling on here: this is important beyond reporting for non-Wrike users. Even for myself, who is using Wrike all day long, I miss having a way to see a short narrative on each project on a single screen. I find myself maintaining a separate list, and then not putting the info into Wrike.

This defeats Wrike's ability to be a "single source of truth" for our organization. 

Alternative use case: we have multiple Projects that are deals in market. it would also be helpful to have this feature so that when our sales people are calling a prospect on one deal, and the prospect inevitably asks about other deals we have in market, the sales person would have a quick way to reference key facts across all the deals....this one maybe I could build through custom fields, but throwing it out there anyway.

Thank you for your feedback, Jessica LeClair! Right now the feature is not planned, and the main reason for this is that description fields can be quite long and have complex formatting. In your comment, you mention a "short narrative", and that's exactly that - it's very common for the description fields to be very long. So, for now, the team is not planning to implement such a feature. I'll let you know if that changes.

Hi there, would also like to add our voice here - this is absolutely needed for our group (and I would think, a basic functionality, no? I joined my team a few months ago and I'm so surprised that a PM software can't do this). I'm curious to know why after two years of Wrike users commenting that they want this, still nothing has even been planned? Thanks.

I wanted to mention Custom Fields to you in case they can be helpful: you can add them to the tasks and have your updates there - they can be shown on a report if you'd like, and you can unwrap the text if you'd like the full text to be shown:

Also adding my voice--I paid for the 5 licenses myself (the smallest increment I could purchase and subscribe) and had originally been told this information could be included on reports (auto generating, without me having to do anything).

This will not only influence how much I put in Wrike now (I will begin limiting it), but whether I recommend it to the rest of my division--and how soon I begin test driving other software looking for what I need.  This is very disappointing to see that something that has been requested for years is not on the roadmap.  

It's a pity, there are some other elegant things about Wrike, and I've already put in more time than I would like only to find this out now, after I've paid for the year subscription for 5 licenses.

It would be most helpful to be able to include the content of the description box in reports.  It would also be helpful to have the option of including the last activity for the task.  We have been using Wrike for a year now and we are becoming frustrated with its limitations.  There doesn't seem to be any movement in this direction with Wrike and I don't know how much longer I can endorse it when it doesn't seem to be growing the in direction of where the customers need to be.

Community feedback is a key factor in how the Product team plans their roadmap, so rest assured that all of your suggestions and feedback are important to us. Currently, there are no plans to add description boxes in reports to the Product roadmap. I understand that this is disappointing, but if there are any changes to this, I'll be sure to let you know.
 
Have you tried following Lisa's workaround for this suggestion? Using a text custom field to share the necessary information within your reports could provide you with a solution here. Not only would you be able to share the contents of the description box in this field, you would also be able to filter tasks based on it, and ensure that only tasks with this information are visible within your reports.

Like Michael above, we need Descriptions as well in custom reports to manage contractual items for funders who do not have access to Wrike, nor do they wish to deal with it.  The Custom Field doesn't meet the need, because the Descriptions are quite lengthy, and often are updated frequently.

Also adding my vote for at least being able to include the description field in reporting.  We also have no good way to handle project notes and have found that both the custom fields are not sufficient, especially since we cannot change the sizes of the custom fields or categorize them on tabs (for instance) or at least rearrange them so we can put the custom fields that belong together in its own group.

Hello, 

Adding the same/additional feedback on this topic. Despite the product team seemingly dismissing this feedback. At the core of project management, there is a need for tracking and reporting on the status of tasks and task updates. While from a development perspective I can understand the complexity this may present due to the complex formatting but from an end user perspective not having descriptions available to show in the table view or via reporting is an extreme limitation in comparison to other project management tools. 

As team members mentioned in prior posts, creating a custom field now creates double the work. The description provides more details about the task. 

Could the product team at least investigate a middle ground, like showing the last work note added to the task or something? I think the community would appreciate additional consideration outside of adding custom fields and statuses that do not align with industry best practices and standards for project management. 

Lastly, we do use collaborators for our projects BUT many of our customers just do not log in they are stuck in wanting more traditional excel based reports/exports for project plans and status updates. I really like the collaborator feature but we can not force our end customers to use the tool either - so we need more effective/less manual reporting options to show task updates. 

Any additional considerations or ideas would be helpful/appreciated.
