[Status: Launched ๐Ÿš€] Duplicating Projects - Reschedule by Milestone

Oh hi,

It would be amazing to have the ability to reschedule a project by a milestone date (in addition to first task start date or last task end date).

For example, many of our projects are content launches that include promotion, monitoring, and other tasks post-launch.

This makes duplicating projects a struggle because we have to introduce math - the user has to add EXACTLY 8 WEEKS to the content launch date in order to have the project reschedule correctly. (And yes, they could shift + drag to adjust the timeline, but that seems like an unnecessary extra step.)

It makes sense that we use milestones to mark an important task, but it would also be great to define a project by that important task too.

Just so I'm clear, you would reschedule the Milestone and from there all other tasks before and after would align accordingly - great feedback! Right now, you can only set from the start or end dates. We'll make sure we pass this to the relevant Product Managerย for when they're reviewing this feature in the future!

@Stephen, exactly - the project would keep the relative spacing for tasks that happen before AND after the milestone. This would allow the person duping the project to reschedule based on the date they know for sure - the milestone date - rather than estimate from the first or last task.

@Carolanne Hey hey - I'm sorry for asking for more specifics here - but I'm guessing that the milestone isn't the last task in the sequence then? If that's the case are there a lot of tasks following the milestone?

@Stephanie, that's correct.

In the example I screenshotted above, we're launching a piece of content, and the release date is the milestone. We have tasks for planning and production that happen before the milestone, but we also have post-launch tasks that occur once the content is released, such as continued promotion on social or reporting on how well the content performed. The first task can be as early as four months before launch, and the last task can be as late as two months following launch.

For us, the release date makes more sense for scheduling than making the first or last task a milestone - in some cases, there can be variation in when the project begins or how much post-launch promotion we do, and it's also possible to adjust the timeline or omit other tasks without disturbing the release date, because it's the milestone.

I came here looking for this very request. I hope they make it happen! We have the same problem--defined deployment dates but variable post-deployment tasks.

We'd really like to see this implemented. Our use case is very similar to Carolanne's. We have a checklist for new employees which has a hard deadline in the middle for the employee's start date. We have tasks leading up to the start date and tasks trailing the start date, but the start date is the part set in stone.

To add a twist, we'd like to do this in a Request Form. So we have a Date field on the request form that feeds into the milestone task and the project re-schedules around the milestone task.

This would be really great to have.ย  We use Wrike to manage a lot of events, with pre and post work for each event.ย  Currently, we have to have 2 projects (Post-event and Pre-event) in order for our tasks to be scheduled correctly.ย  Hopefully this gets added soon

As a marketing team this would be really helpful for us. Most of our work revolves around a central milestone where work is launched to the public.

Being able to schedule and report around a launch date milestone would increase our ability to automate through blueprints. We can do all this rescheduling manually now but it makes it difficult to take advantage of the automation Wrike can offer.

PLEASE make this happen! I'm currently tearing out my hair trying to get a blueprint set so that it will populate in line with a particular milestone. Right now the last "task" in the project says "END: reschedule so that end date is 12 weeks after launch date" (launch date is not the first task in the project).ย 

We run up against this frequently, and it makes me cry (and swear).ย

Rescheduling by milestone is important for my team as the majority of our projects are based on a specific milestone for distribution, publication, or an event and then we have follow up actions after that.ย  Right now we have to reschedule manually.

This feature would also be very helpful for my team. The prep or follow-up work for a project isn't usually a defined date, but it's in our blueprints. However, we do know certain milestone dates pretty early in the project's life, like when an exhibition opens or closes. Most tasks lead up to or follow those dates.ย The feature where you can reschedule based on start date or end dates isn't that helpful, but rescheduling based on a milestone would be.
