๐Ÿ“‚ Releases - Custom fields, table view, and widgets (05/25/20)

Announcements

Wrike IP ranges are going to be updated

  • If your company does not have any strict access controls and additional network security settings, (e.g. firewall, proxy, antivirus whitelist) then this change should not affect you.ย
  • If you have an account that has strict firewall settings and site access controls, please add the additional IP ranges to your whitelist settings to avoid connectivity issues once the change happens. Please keep in mind, that old IP ranges are still in place, you can find the additional IP ranges at this link.

Enhanced custom fields can now be found in your tasks! Check out these improvements:

  • Select the cells where you want to put the information and paste the info using keyboard shortcuts. (Ctrl+V for Windows, Cmd+V for Mac).

We're happy to say that you can now create widgets from multiple folders, projects and spaces. Thanks to everyone who shared feedback and supported this suggestion! When creating a widget click the + button to add more items. You can read more about this update in our Community announcement.

Hi guys,ย

A few points of feedback:

I don't actually see what's been improved in the Task Details UI for Custom Fields. ย Hugh would you mind showing a "before and after"? ย The ability to see history is a nice touch, but I'm not sure how much I would use it, maybe other users...

And importantly, I continue to hope for a view that will allow me to seeย bothย Custom Fields and Subtasks at the same time. ย Both are hugely important data areas in tasks, and it's really a burden to have to choose which you see. ย Any chance you guys can work on that? ย I'm not aware of a request on the board for that in particular, if there isn't I'll think about posting one...

Hey Al Sape, thank you for the feedback! We're always looking at ways to improve the Weekly Release Notes, so your input is greatly appreciated. Here is the before and after for Custom Fields in the Task View;

There isn't currently a Product Feedback thread in regards to your suggestion, I'd recommend making a post for it! If you have any other questions, be sure to let me know.

Wouldn't it be great if the development team canvassed the live user base ?!ย  Who voted for this without thinking of the wider implication of CURRENT USERS ?!ย

UAT is so important and to FORCE users to take on this alpha-sort seq is not correct.ย  At least make it an option.ย  ย Our custom filed have changed so much that staff are placing incorrect data into the fields as they EXPECT the old look and feel.ย

My invoicing is now up the creek.ย  Thanks WRIKE - NOT.ย  ย

The only way around this is to now prefix my fields with "1.", "2.", "3," etc .... Not ideal and the lost functionality os terrible.ย  More staff training needed now, and fields that do not line up any more.ย  "Not happy Jan".

I would like to direct folks reading this thread, back to this one.

Have a call with your Wrike customer success manager like our team did to express your displeasure. That was followed by a call with a couple of people from the Wrike development team. The explanation is that they have too many customers to get opinions from everyone with changes they don't think are that significant. We offered to be available for calls, let them analyze our data and structure to help prevent this in the future.ย

Just so you know, they are still planning to carry this change to the projects and folders. Perhaps we are insignificant as a single customer group but they need to hear that isn't just my team complaining. I am not really sure these threads are taken all that seriously.ย

Hi Peter Tisdall, thank you for sharing your input here.

The reason why the team decided on the alphanumerical order of updated custom fields is that when you are using the same custom fields in tasks that are tagged in different folders and projects, their location is a lot more predictable than it was.ย

Your feedback has been passed on to the Product team. If you have any more questions, be sure to let me know.

Hello Hugh, thank you for that insight into the "intentions" of the alphabetical nature of the fields in this release.

In reality, it works a little different, and it has thrown a lot of kaos into our company and the operators.

For example.ย  "Amount Invoiced",ย  "Invoice Date",ย  ย "Amount Paid",ย  "Date Paid"ย  "Payment Ref:",ย  "Notes:"ย  is the order we used to have and now, it is a mess, and totally illogical to the users, and as a result, data is being entered into incorrect fields.ย

So, support tell me that i need to prefix all my fields with a number.ย  "1. Amount Invoiced",ย  "2. Invoice Date:",ย  ย "3.ย  Amount Paid"..etc etc.

Secondly, if we are fixing this, how about let Admin users DICTATE the location/size of the fields.ย  ย It makes no sense for the system to cram in my "Notes:" field into the far right column, centered, when it needs to reflect approx 100char of invoice notes.ย  We should have the choice to locate this field at the bottom of the page [my choice] and stretch it wide to fill the space, and actually look like a notes field.

Note all folders and project have the same fields, and with the checkbox option we can pick/choose which items appear - great.... but let us order them in a logical manner, not forced by the hand of the system.ย  Happy to mock something up for developers.

Hugh & Lisa, why is my comment from May 28th "Pending Approval". It is relevant to the topic here on this thread as well as the one I referenced.

Ken West Hi, thanks for reaching out!

Apologies for the confusion here - your post got flagged, that can sometimes happen when you add a link to your comment/post. I approved your comment now and it's visible here on this thread.

Thank you for sharing the tip to contact a Customer Success Managerย ๐Ÿ‘ It's a good idea to reach out to them when you have questions or concerns, that's what they're there for - to support you and help on your Wrike journey.

The feedback that you share with your CSM follows the same process that we have here on our Community - it's passed on to the Product team and reviewed by them. If we or the Customer Success Manager have any update from the team, we share it with you either personally, or here on the threads. Please rest assured that we process all feedback that we're getting through different channels.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else!

Agree with Ken Westย and Peter Tisdallย here, and in the respective thread Ken you referenced. ย I can barely see a difference here other than the addition of the logos to show what type of field we have - hardly something worthy of mentioning when compared to apps like ClickUp which are cranking out useful features that have this kind of obvious treatment as a default. ย You guys also made the custom fields all the way down the Task Details now, I preferred how they took up less space before.

And big basics like being able to see Fieldsย ANDย subtasks, like in Asana, and some basic color to custom fields, remain missing. ย This is barely worthy of calling an update. ย I'd say at best it should be an option in preferences to let the user decide how to display them, and whether they are alphabetical or not. ย

So we have this release, which is being met with mostly negative response over here https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360044203093--From-Wrike-Custom-Field-Update-?page=1#community_comment_360011645133, and as you point out Ken a whole bunch of relevant requests basically ignored. ย Huge need for required fields, 100% agreed. The request is here:

https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115002055485--Status-Backburner-Set-Required-custom-fields?page=2#comments

Huge # of votes, over 3 yrs old, no movement in an age.

I would love to see the requests with most votes here in the community ranked, possibly also with some additional "trend" attribute manually added based on tone of commentaries - which his mostly desperate and frustrated - alongside what the Product team is actually working on.

Thanks guys!

To add more weight to this ever growing issue we face.ย  I am not about to prefix all my Custom Fields with "A,B,C,D..." or "1,2,3,4..." in order to get the layout I require in a task,ย  It will look horrible, and brings us back to a tool that did not review UAT and the client impact.

We have custom fields to manage our invoices, they're great ....well used to be.ย  Now that the logic if all fields being displayed in ALPHA order, our users are thrown into disarray, and critical data is ending up in the wrong fields.ย  ย Yes, we can RE-TRAIN our robot users, bubt again the release was not logical when you TOOK AWAY our ability to display and order the fields to our liking.

See attached screens.ย  I pray this is REVERTED at least, or better still add BACK the ability to custom order our fields.ย

Thanks for reading.

Finally got around to creating my first dashboard using multiple folders - fantastic! However, you can't 'Open in List View'. I'm using the widgets to give me a complete list of all tasks which can be deleted (from all depts 'Daily' folders for example). Thought it would be a speedy way to view - but alas not! Please give us this option.
