[Status: Launched! ๐] Job Roles in Reports
The new job role function is a really useful feature that needs to be more readily available in different areas of Wrike. It is only possible to use this feature in individual tasks and in the workload view but not in reports, dashboards or anywhere else. In order to predict and plan resource against capacity in future, it would be great to be able to pull Job Roles into reports the same way we can assignees.ย
Hannah Corbett I was only looking at this myself yesterday.ย Upvote for you ๐
Hannah, you mention using Roles in workload view. How do you do this? I don't see how to add a role to a workload chart, only users and groups.
ย
I fully agree that you need the job roles and the assignee's in one overview to enable good resource planning
ย
Hey everybody, thank you for all of your feedback! It's been passed on to the Product team.
Jason, you can see job roles on the Workload chart if you click add grouping in the top left corner of the chart. The option to group by job role should appear thenย ๐
When will this get functionality get pushed to us end users?
When will this functionality get pushed to us end users?
@...ย Yes, this allows you to group by role, but it still only shows assigned tasks. It does not show you a Role as a generic holder for assignments. You have to use the Backlog Box to see those; they are not included in the actual workload chart section.ย
Hi Jason Pontius, thank you for providing more feedback here! It's been passed on to the Product team.
Hey Avi Patel, I don't have an update from the Product team on the status of this thread. If anything changes, I'll be sure to let you know.
Hannah Corbett, thanks for submitting this. I tried exporting a project plan to excel and the job role function didn't appear in any of the assignments. This was really disappointing. Any update on this from the Product Team?
Hi everyone! I'm happy to let you know that the team is planning to release this in 2021 ๐ Thank you for your feedback and support here ๐ย

Lisaย that's great news! Will this field also be available in the Wrike API?
Happy to hear that James Alcornย ๐ I'm checking about the API and I'll let you know if the Product team has plans for this ๐

Hi Lisa, sorry just to check are you releasing the ability to export job roles in to reporting? Or are you saying it will be feasible to assign tasks to job roles in the workload view rather than the backlog view.
ย
James Alcornย Hi again, the team confirmed that job roles are planned to be available in API too ๐
Michael Morrisonย Hi, thanks for reaching out! The team is planning to add job roles to Wrike reports ๐

Lisaย I have noticed that Roles are not included in reports recently, but I thought for sure that they were working before. I have a big report that I export in order to calculate resource forecasts over time (something that Wrike doesn't really do). This is an important report built in Excel with a lot of data and calculations.ย
I used to export the report and dump the data in, but now I am seeing that all of the assignees that are Roles are missing. In my old versions of the export I see roles included. I feel that this stopped within the last couple of weeks or months.
Now it takes me a very long time to go back through the exported report and fill in all of the roles that weren't included. This is very time consuming and makes this weekly update take several hours to do.ย
Why did this get removed and how soon will it get fixed?
ย
Thank you.
ย
Hi Jason Pontius, Job Roles are not available in Reports yet. Could it be the case that the file you have mentioned was the export of the Table View? That's where you can have Job roles:
โTable View format is very similar to the format of Reports, and you could create a Custom Table View and use it for export as a temporary workaround until Job Roles are released in Wrike Reports. Would that work for you?
Please also subscribe to Weekly Release Notes to stay up-to-date about new improvements, we have so many plans for this year!๐
@..., no I was not exporting from the table view. I have a report that I use to export all tasks and efforts so that I can generate a forecast heat map of workload over the next year with graphs, summaries, etc. Each time I export, I have to go back in and manually add in all of the roles since they don't export.ย
I don't believe I used to have to do this. I have been using this report for many months and I don't recall having to re-enter these roles every time.ย
In either case, I really need roles to be included in the report just as users are. The Assignee field should include whatever is assigned in the tasks, be it roles or users. Otherwise the report is not true to the actual task data.
Table view really doesn't work because that would have to be for a single container (folder, space, project, etc.).ย My report includes data from multiple spaces as it is all of the active and potential work from design, production, sales, etc.
Thank you.
Jason Pontius, I understand that having Job Roles in the Report would be much more convenient than exporting tasks from the Table view. While we don't have an ETA to share yet, our developers are planning to make Job roles available in native Reports (and other places across the platform) soon. In the meantime, let me suggest a couple of workarounds:
The workarounds are not perfect, but maybe they could be useful while our engineers are working on the enhancement. We will do our best to improve your experience with us and make sure you have the best resources for capacity planning. Please stay tuned for updates! ๐
I would like to comment on Job roles.
We used the Job roles as a dummy user, so the quantity has increased a bit.
I tried to check the existing Job roles.
In account management:
- I can't check who created Job roles and when.
- I can't cut and copy the Job roles list.
In activity report:
- It is no information of Job roles ใ audit operation as "Work Item Assigned".
In Backup:
- There is no files of Job roles in the backup.
- work_assignee.csv does not include Job roles records.
If you have plan of Job roles enhance in the future, consider these items as well.
Yoshi
Thanks so much for your detailed feedback Yoshiji Komori!ย
Passing it on to the team now ๐

Came across this thread as having job roles in Wrike reports is important for us too!ย Wondering what the status is on this feature as I saw it was to be released this year?ย Thank you!
Please add to Analyze Boards as well!ย Such a game changer to have this available for reporting beyond Workload Charts.ย Thank you!
Hi Stephanie Cantrell, Meredith Selden, thank you both for sharing your feedback here, I've passed it on to our Product team. Unfortunately, this is not in the short-term roadmap at the moment but we'll be sure to let you know if anything changes ๐๐ผ
Absolutely need this. There is very little use to the roles if they cannot be reported on. Its a pretty common organisational requirement to understand how much of a specific role is utilised, stressed, sold etc. Seems crazy to build this information out but not be able to utilise it in any reporting. Love to see it get on the roadmap.ย
I agree, Bud Peart.ย I am so tired of exporting reports and going through and filling in roles into the assignees so we can see data. I spend almost an hour every time backfilling roles. Makes no sense to me that these are not included in the reports.ย
WRIKE, PLEASE FIX THIS!
It's been 2 1/2 years and this has not been addressed.
I have started to give up on Wrike ever providing the adjustments we ask for as almost every feedback I provide for improvements is met with "this is not on the road map".ย It feels futile to even take time to post the feedback. Very frustrating, especially when these asks are usually minor efforts to implement. It doesn't take that much work to pull the roles for the reports. It's already being done in the project views such as Table view. Reports aren't that much different; it's the same data. Why can we not have roles on the reports? I bet it would take a developer half an hour to add this, and yet we have waited 2 1/2 years and counting to get it? Ridiculous.
ย
Agreed - the job role is already being pulled into the reports behind the scenes as the report has to be using the job role to calculate actual fees and actual cost, so why can it not be shown?ย Can we provided an explanation as to why this cannot be added to the roadmap for release this year?
Hi everyone,
Good news - job roles are now visible in Reports and can be used for grouping tasks! ๐
Thanks again to everyone who's been supporting and sharing their feedback in relation to this suggestion, it's been vital to the team and is much appreciated ๐
Please note that job roles are not available in filters in Reports for now. We'll be sure to let you know any further updates about this feature ๐
Thank you!ย This small improvement will save tons of time for anyone who has been manually revising reports to add the missing roles back in.
Great to hear that Jason Pontius ๐๐ผ
