Update dependent tasks when task status changes
When I change the status of a task to cancelled or on hold, it would be helpful and efficient if dependent next tasks were updated to the same status. I frequently have cases in which future tasks which are dependent on a decision task in the present, for example software release tasks waiting for a go/no-go decision.
If the initial task is cancelled ("no-go"), I'd like the future, dependent tasks to also be cancelled, rather than having to walk through them and cancel them all manually.
Likewise, when a present task is put on hold, I'd like dependent tasks to also be placed on hold, for similar reasons.
A more automated approach to this would be very helpful as I have to monitor hundreds of projects and manually change their statuses as I hear back from team members about their projects' updates.
Would like to echo this level of automation here, too! To be able to change dependent tasks based on this would be incredibly helpful.
Fully agreed to the request. It seems like the option is (sometimes) given when changing a task status but is not something can be actively invoked (as . Would be great add this as a feature!
Hey everyone, apologies for the delay in response here.
While it is possible to change the status of a subtask by completing the parent task, it currently is not possible to change the status of a task based on it's dependencies. Your feedback has been passed on to the Product team, and if anything changes, I'll be sure to keep you posted.
Let me know if you have any other questions / feedback!
Any updates that can shared with this request? I'm looking for same functionality. As sub tasks are updated it would update the overall status of the project, perhaps based on the workflow heirachy.
Hi everyone! If I understand the suggestion correctly, this should now be possible with Wrike Automation:
You can set up a rule applied to tasks where if all predecessor statuses change to a particular status (e.g. "canceled" or "on hold"), the task's status changes to a particular status as well:
I hope this helps! 🙂
