[Status: Not planned] Custom fields for recurring tasks

It looks like custom fields are not duplicated from the original task when tasks are made recurring. Is there a way to have the custom fields automatically recreated for recurring tasks?

+1 from me as well for this!

I am refining out use case, but we have automations to move tasks to a project task board and a dashboard that rely on where the task falls in the Eisenhower Matrix. Further, the level of status as well as custom field for multi-layered task sorting does not work properly if the custom field does not recur. Having to still manually update custom fields on recurring tasks takes a lot of time and still doesn't guarantee that things fire correctly. Currently utilizing automation as a workaround - but sometimes it's too specific and bumps a bunch of tasks that don't truly apply OR it misses things that should be put forth. It also affects accuracy of some dashboards I've set up. Feeling a bit defeated with all the things I keep finding that don't really do quite what makes sense or is needed, especially after becoming proficient in multiple other comparable tools.

(Also open to other options for making this work in the meantime, happy to share further specific details about workflow.)

It is possible to use the Wrike API and a tool like Zapier (or a custom script) to automatically detect new tasks and add whatever custom fields you want based on the task title or other fields. I did this for our team and it is working well.

Hi @marc-g - The new dashboards have helped with this a bit as far as sub-sorting by priority but I had to ditch custom fields and use in-house priority as best as possible to make it reliable/restructure how I review my tasks. This doesn't solve problems like not showing tasks in their duration (but not yet due) in dashboards, etc.

Considering I am using in-house Wrike automations for other things and they are not reliably working, I am hesitant to rely on them because I do not want to miss tasks. I also do not have the authority to loop in Zapier.

Hi!
Any news about cloning custom fields value in recurring tasks?

Hey Pietro Poli, not at the moment as recurrences are not being updated by our team right now.

This is a huge need and disadvantage of recurrences!   Its a thread and an ask for more than 2 yrs now.  When will this be actioned?  A recurrence should have the ability to "Mirror the task" not just "create a relative image of a task --which is what is currently being done.

whyyyy is this not a feature for fields to carry over on reoccurring tasks - this is awful and so painful to use without this feature.

what is the point of a reoccurring task if all of the form fields (or some for fields) don't carry over? I don't see the benefit - this could be such a useful but it's useless when it clears all of the form fields

I agree with Grace Davis. This is more like a bad design or a bug you guys have with your tool and not a new feature request. I need this for my team (like so many others here) in order to be able to filter tasks in dashboards using custom fields. It's been 4 years and so many feedback but no action from wrike. This is sad and dissapointing.

Is there a roadmap on the horizon to carry over custom field values for recurring tasks?  This would be extremely helpful for recurring system maintenance that would allow a quick view in the calendar of tasks that are weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc....

My team desperately needs this capability. We rely on values in CFs on several types of recurring tasks to drive reporting (by region, location of employees, team manager names, etc). It's very easy for assignees to forget to re-populate them on every single new task, especially since we still have no way to designate a field as "required" to force them to do so.

Duplication of tasks is not a viable workaround as we need automatic generation of the task to keep them from forgetting to complete the task in the first place.
