[Status: Not Planned] Adjust Due Date Based On Completion Date
Is there a way to make a tasks due date change when it is completed?
For example, If I set a task timeline from 05/23/18-05/30/18 and it is completed on 05/25/18, could the timeline adjust and the task complete date replace the due date?
I agree. I think part of this issue (which also creates some confusion) is that Wrike uses the term "Due Date" when it would be better described as "Finish Date". I think it would be very helpful to have an additional date column for task due dates / deadlines that wouldn't necessarily change if/when the finish date does. This would make it easier to compare scheduled (&/or deadlines) vs. actual finish dates.
in other words...... Planned vs actual.
I wouldn't want to see the "due date" change once "completed", however, I'd agree the name needs to be changed to "expected Finish date".
there would be a 2nd (newly created field) called "Actual Completion" date
Our timelines get off when contributors finish projects early and it has to move on to the next person. I would love if the completion date changed to 'todays' date and then it would be extra special if the entire timeline moved in OR if a notice was sent to the project owner that it was finished early so they can move it in. Something to allow some automation on the changing of the completion date to the actual completed date.
I agree with all of the above comments, and would like to add onto it the not-so-great scenario of when a task goes overdue, unless subsequent tasks have start date constraints, they should also get pushed out to start when the predecessor task was actually completed.
I would LOVE if Wrike implemented this feature!
Thanks a lot for your feedback here, everyone!
In regards to this suggestion, I'd like to mention a couple of things that are already available in Wrike:
1) Completion date - you can filter tasks by it
2) Custom Fields - you can add a field for "actual completion date" and filter tasks too
3) Baselines - they help you compare a project’s originally planned VS current scheduled start and due dates. Here's more info: https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360027305473--From-Wrike-Make-a-beeline-for-Baselines-Now-available-in-Gantt-Charts-Wrike-Labs-
Hope this helps!

Hi Lisa, I am also looking for the ability to have dates of dependent tasks move based on completion, not due dates, of predecessor tasks when using dependencies. Baselines are great for sure. But could you let us know is this possible?
So if I have a task with a due date of March 13, and my next dependent task is scheduled for March 14. But, I finish that first task on March 18. With the next task still show a due date of March 14? I understand that Wrike will Email the assignee that it's time to start that task, but will the due date change?
John Beck is this what you were looking for? Your example is finishing ahead of schedule, mine is behind. In each case, the functionality is very useful to move the next task's due date.
Thanks!
Hey Al Sape, this is currently not possible, but I can see how this could be beneficial! This feedback has been passed on to the Product team 😊
Hello, I also have the same need. I would like an automatic reschedduling of the gant chart based on the completion date and not on the due date.
For example if task 1 is finished with 1 month in advance then task to will be notified 1 month later...I am loosing 1 month..
We would also like to see due date vs. actual date in a report.
It would be great if the completion date could be added to the dependency options, such as Completion to Start, Start to Completion, instead of or in addition to Start to Finish, Finish to Start. You would retain the original Due Date, but dependencies would react to the actual completion date.
Thank you for your feedback, Tracy Dunn, and welcome to the Community 🙂

I've been looking at the community posts and it seems people have been asking for this feature since 2017. Al Sape said it well. Has it been implemented already, Wrike Team? I'm a new user and I need this feature to illustrate how much a project actually takes vs. what was envisioned during the planning stage.
That's great to get this support Angeli Mendoza! Please be sure to "heart" this request as well - sorry I don't mean to be demanding, but it turns out that's the way votes are counted around here, which myself and other users have said to Wrike is an unclear system.

which has to do with Close Task dates being visible on the Baselines. Similar motif in that you're seeing how long you take vs. how long you planned. Wrike's insistence on treating closed dates as basically invisible in most places like Gantt has really given my team fits in getting good visibility into how we are progressing on our plans.
Thanks again!
Hi Angeli Mendoza, welcome to the Community 🙂
Thanks for adding your feedback here, we've passed this on to the Product team.
As Al mentioned, please do make sure you upvote the original post for this idea above. If this suggestion reaches 60+ votes, we'll be able to add a status here. There's also more information on how we work with Product Feedback available here.
We don't have any news to share on this suggestion at the moment, but if that changes, we'll be sure to update this thread.

Thanks Elaine! Heart-ed. However, I think this feedback/request for this feature has gained more than 60 votes already if you consider that people in the community have been asking for it as far back as 2017. As I said, I looked at the threads prior to making my comment. So I hope the Wrike team can address this as soon as possible in 2021! Thanks again.
I agree Angeli Mendoza, this is a badly needed feature, my team is really struggling as we try to reenter Wrike with Gantt and other aspects not reflection our actual completion dates. This is simply the notion of "Planned vs Actual" that I'd have thought would be a foundation of a good Project Management tool. Wrike has a bunch of great features, but without this, the Gantt is next to useless for us because as we get into a project and as we close tasks, that's not reflected on the Gantt at all.
You make a great point with the feedback tracking. I think at times it's almost by design to have an excuse to put off requests that Wrike doesn't make it clear how to vote with the "heart" motif. If you look in some requests you have a lot of comments, all with their own "hearts," are those counted as votes? And there are quite a few requests in here with great comments, well-thought out, yet those are not credited, and there aren't enough hearts, like in the case of this request, the Product team uses it as an excuse to avoid the request. Generally I would think that this is a big feature Wrike would want to implement regardless of how many votes it has. Lisa recently replied to me in another post that one reason certain requests can't get addressed is because of "the focus this year on the New Experience." What even does that mean? UI Tweaks? This and many other key features just don't exist in Wrike and weaken the product, and it's really disappointing that Wrike seems to be OK with that state of play.
And Elaine could you let me know why my previous post is still in "pending approval?" I understand it contains a link, but otherwise I don't think its content is such that you guys would moderate it out of publication?
Thanks!
Al, I sent my team a company wide email that asked them all to log-in to their wrike and promote the feature. If we have to play by wrike rules, let's just have all our wrike contributors and associates like the comment.
This is what I sent:
Hey everyone! I discovered if I can get 60 votes on this comment, we can look at wrike implementing it. It’s been a hassle for each project manager for a very long-time (5+ years)and I’d love your 5 minutes to vote for it to be raised as an issue. Make sure to heart ‘John Beck’s’. Hearting is considered a vote.
Hi Julie Fleming, Angeli Mendoza, thanks for adding your comments and thoughts here, much appreciated.
Our Product team references the Community when planning future updates. Reviewing requests here and the associated votes helps them to determine what to focus on next, so we appreciate you showing your support for this suggestion.

I am also looking for a feature that will update predecessor tasks dates based on completion dates. So if something is completed early, the following dependent Task(s) have the start date updated and the duration remain constant.
We need 30 more votes to operationalize this suggestion! To anyone out there and their teams using Wrike, please "heart" this original comment so Wrike makes it happen! Much needed feature to make Wrike more useable: https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360007963094-Adjust-Due-Date-Based-On-Completion-Date?page=1#community_comment_360014074414
Kelly Wilson, please don't forget to heart if you haven't yet. Thanks! :)
Thank you for adding your support here, Kelly Wilson, Angeli Mendoza! 🙌
Angeli Mendoza You're correct in saying that the more upvotes a suggestion gets, the easier it is for the Product team to understand its popularity. After reaching the 60 votes threshold, we'll be adding one of the Product statuses here.

Any update with this planned vs actual feature? Seems to be well above the required 60 upvotes at this point...
Hi everyone, sorry for the delayed response here.
We wanted to share an update here to let you know that unfortunately, there are no plans to add this functionality currently and I've updated the status here to reflect this.
I understand this might come as disappointing news, but although the Product team can see the value of this, they are focused on other priorities for now.
I'd encourage anyone who is interested in this feature to continue to vote here, the more votes a suggestion has, the more we know how popular and sough-after a request is. You can see more on how we work with Product Feedback in this post.
Thank you for all your feedback and continuous support for this request.
This would be accomplished with the addition of a "change Due Date to" action in the Automation area, and then a simple value assignment entry of "today" when coupled with "When Status changes to > all completed." I've submitted this Action request via the Automation window but I'm adding here in case that helps get it added to the development pipeline.
Hi Matt Becker, thank you for chiming in here and sharing your feedback👍🏼
@..., has this update been made? Thanks!
Hi Jessie Cheimets, welcome to the Community and thank you for bumping this thread. There are no news for now, we'll be sure to let you know if there are any updates🙋🏻♀️
@wrike team please update. Can you add the automation action at least
