Automation - create task and assign it to someone
Hello,
We would like the ability to assign individuals to tasks/subtasks that are created as part of an automation i.e. for all projects, when this happens, create this task and assign it to this person. At the moment, you can create a task/subtask but you can only edit the item type, name and description. You cannot assign it to anyone (or change other functionality like set a deadline). You can create a workflow that changes the assignee on the project/task that triggered the workflow (i.e. for all projects, when this happens, change the assignee on the project) - so the process exists but at the trigger level rather than the creation level.
Thanks in advance,
Lucy
Hi Lucy Taylor, we accomplish this by using blueprints in combination with our automations. So, instead of just creating a new task/subtask, we create then from a blueprint. The blueprint contains the assignee, status, custom item type, location, and any other special field or description data you need.
Lucy Taylor adding to Ali Moses comment, if you have multiple people that could be assigned to the task depending on what it is, you can create multiple blueprints. Also you could use workflow automation to assign people to the task. Hopefully adding assignees will come in future automation updates.
Welcome to the community, Lucy Taylor! Thanks for posting, and thank you Ali Moses and Russell Sprague for stepping in and helping here. Do let us know if you require any further assistance 🙂

Hi Ali Moses and Russell Sprague,
Thanks so much for your responses and suggestions. Apologies - I should have been clearer. We are looking for the ability to assign the task to the person that triggered the rule which I don't believe is possible using blueprints. It is possible at the project level in the automation i.e. for all projects, when this happens, "change the assignee" and then select the option for the user who triggered the rule. Its just not possible at task level and I can't see a work around for this as the blueprint would also require a named person. If either of you or Rohan V can think of a work around that would be very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Lucy
Lucy Taylor It looks like you can set the assignee to the person that triggered the rule with an existing task, but not when creating one from a blueprint.
Thank you, Russell Sprague for stepping in and helping here!

Hi Rohan V
Please can you let me know how I request this feature? I have already been through the support process and what I have outlined is not possible according to the support teams and our Wrike consultant. I thought posting here is how you provide feedback and request features. If its not, please can you let me know how I do this. Its not currently possible to assign a newly created task straight from the automation. There is a work around using blueprints as Ali and Russell kindly helped with, but it still does not provide a work around for what we require which is create a task and assign it to the person that triggered the automation.
Thanks,
Lucy
