Copy custom field values on recurring tasks

I have several (7) recurring tasks related to a weekly podcast-- (podcast, 2 websites, email, social media, PDF commentary, etc). They are 7 separate tasks because different people across the firm support me with different tasks, and they need to be done in a certain order. We also have 35 custom fields we need for reporting and compliance record-keeping. Most of the values are the same week to week. I want the option to keep the field values when I make a task recurrent. Otherwise I'm filling out over 200 fields, that don't change week to week. Several of my team members have similar issues with their recurring tasks.

I agree that reoccurring tasks need to keep more information. Keeping subtasks would also be amazing.

In the meantime, I have a workaround I use sometimes. It is a bit of a pain to set up, but works pretty smoothly once it is done.

  1. create a unique custom item type task to use as a reoccurring task
  2. create a blueprint with all 7 tasks you need with all fields and details filled out - including dependencies if needed
  3. set up an automation on the CIT task to create from blueprint when you mark the task as complete - choose the blueprint you created
  4. create a reoccurring weekly task using the CIT task you made - assign to yourself
  5. mark the task as complete to create the tasks in your blueprint
  6. update the due dates on the tasks

After it is all set up, you should only need to repeat numbers 5 and 6 each week.

Thanks Claire Findlay for the workaround. For my team, I have 50+ weekly CIT reports with the same fields that gets generated every week with about 10 common fields, out of which 2-3 might change regularly. Does the automation creation overide the recurrence set to create a weekly report in wrike?

Hi Hitesh Karkal, creating an automation rule won't affect your recurrences 🙂
