New Dashboards

After a cursory search of the product feedback boards and not finding a discussion on this, wanted to bring up the new dashboards. Completely befuddled by the updates made to filtering capabilities in the widgets.

First and foremost, you can no longer select start date as a filter. Every project or client-related dashboard we build has a widget for tasks starting within the next seven days, so that we can make sure all are prepared before we set them active.

Is it unreasonable to think that users would want to filter tasks based on one the key datapoints associated with a task/item within Wrike? Is this something that they plan on updating in the near future?

Second, removing 'planned' from the type filter. Being able to eliminate backlogged tasks (which serve their own purpose outside of planned work) helps keep certain widgets cleaner and is extremely useful for our agency.

I'd encourage other users to share their observations on the new dashboards here as well. I know this can't be everything, just the most glaring for our use case at the moment.

Hey Jake! Thank you for speaking up and providing your feedback on new dashboards. I see why you're disappointed, and I'm with you as a heavy internal user of new dashboards. Please keep in mind that new dashboards were released to Labs, and it's not something that is generally available yet. It's a work in progress, and we released them to Labs to get feedback from users like you early on. The good news is that missing filtering options will be added very soon, as well as many other nice things. If you have any other thoughts/observations, please share them too.

I'd like to add some feedback for the New Dashboards as well.  Is it better to submit feedback here or in the Labs "submit feedback" box?

1) We have several custom item types, but New Dashboards require me to select only one CIT per widget.  I'd like some of my widgets to show multiple CITs.

2) The editor is very slow.  Each time I select a filter or any field in the editor, it takes several seconds to reload the preview, but I haven't finished editing yet. So if I'm trying to edit multiple things (like select status filter, then select assignee filter, etc.), the process is much longer than it needs to be.

3) With old dashboard widgets, we had more ability to change size/shape.  Now it seems like there is less flexibility.

Thank you for reaching out, Anna! You can submit your feedback both here and through Wrike Assistant. This place is more live since we can easily have discussions there. Going back to your questions:
1 - Please use either the Task or Project category in the New Widget. It would give you all task-based or project-based work items. You can further filter them by Item Type to get what you want.
2 - We are willing to look into your case. You may record a video and post it there or send it to vlad@team.wrike.com or, alternatively, we can look at it on your behalf through our support. Please let me know what is your preference.
3 - Can you please provide an example of the layout you wanted to make and cannot? We are actually releasing some changes tomorrow that may be helpful with that.

Glad to hear that Jake! If there is anything else about new dashboards you or your team wants to share with us please do that. Anything else you don't like? Or maybe things that you like in new dashboards?

Thanks for the comments Vladimir Bugay

1- I see the options for Projects vs Tasks, but once I select Tasks, I want to be able to select several custom item types to appear in a widget.  For example, we have normal Tasks, but we have CITs called "Marketing" and "Analytics" (for example).  I want a widget to show Marketing and Analytics CITs.

2- I'd prefer to send the video via support. Thanks!

3- I'll wait for the update that's already coming tomorrow to see if that helps with the widget layout.

Anna, on #1 you can do this later with the Item Type filter. You select something like Task: All and then in filters select Marketing and Analytics under Item Type.

Hey folks,

I made another try with the new dashboard.

My blueprint is an old dashboard which filters tasks of a huge project by "tasks to do" and a specific date.

At the moment it seems as if there is no such filter in new dashboards.

The old version shows all tasks that:

a) start in this specific date

b) end on this specific date

c) have started before and end after this date

Looking forward to your suggestions how to solve this with new dashboard version. :)

Hey Florian! I would be grateful if you could help me to understand your specific use case. It's true that we don't have Tasks To Do filter in new dashboards. We have Status, Task Type and various date filters (start, due, created etc.) instead.

Based on what you have just described I believe you want to see tasks that a) started before or on a specific date and b) end on or after this date. Is that correct? What filter do you use in classic dashboards? Tasks to Do with the custom time frame set to a single day?

Thanks Vladimir Bugay. That worked for me.  I had been looking in a different place, but I found the location where you can filter by multiple CITs.

Dear Vladimir Bugay thank you for your questions.

We use the filter "tasks to do" set to a specific custom date in our old dashboard.

For our events, we have some taks that have longer time frames, e.g. light installations, setup of fencing or even suppliers that have several timings on different days in a framing of 3 weeks. So the mother task for electricians may have a timing from 01 November to 21 November with 15 sub tasks on different days withing this time frame.

Having the mother task on start date makes you lose it on following days.

Having it on due date does not work either.

Therefore we figured out that "tasks to do" lets the task show up on all days within the given time frame of a task.

I think the old standard widget "Today/this week to do" is transferred correctly or at least somehow displaying the same data in the new dashboard. So the "tasks to do" filter might not be that far away.

Hope this brief insight into our use case helps, otherwise feel free to ask!

Best regards!

Lea, I'm sorry, but we don't have any video materials on new dashboards yet because they are still a work in progress and evolve pretty quickly. Are there any specific things you struggle with and expect us to be covered in such a video?

Vladimir Bugay - I love to find a list of samples of Widgets people use to cause the ones listed are not enough for what I need and they are not the easiest to figure out.

  1. It would be great if there were explanation about how each Visualization work and what data it needs to make it work.
  2. We need a filter for file approvals, like when a person is not assigned to a task or a project but needs to approve a file.
  3. It is also really frustrating that I name a widget but if I change the visualization the name of the widget erases.
  4. It would be great to be able to size the widgets to match whatever layout we need.

thanks!

Lea, thanks for the clarification. Let me take it one by one:
1 - Accepted. Most visualizations are data agnostic, and they would visualize whatever data you provide, but the ask is clear
2 - It's a work in progress and we'll add reporting/filtering on approvals soon
3 - It has been fixed already. Please let me know if there are still cases when it doesn't work
4 - Can you please elaborate on that? We use a layout based on rows/columns, and you can resize rows/columns and widgets inside them. What do you want to do and cannot?

The anlytics report board allows you to have small widgets like the 4 below. I have not been able to do that for the dahboards.

I am trying ot make these widgets smaller but it does not let me and the widget name still changing when I change the visualization.

Lea, you can do all the same things with the new dashboards and more. You can resize widgets to make them smaller and bigger. You can switch between indicators, tables, and charts in the widget editor. In the widget settings (... menu) you can switch between different display modes. I see now how a training video could help you. Thank you for the feedback!

Vladimir Bugay Did your team push new updates to New Dashboards either today or yesterday.  If we go in to edit widgets on our existing new dashboards, the filter settings are getting auto wiped out. It shows the number of filters set for a moment and then clears.  At that point, you have no idea which filters were set.  This is going to cause a mess if not fixed quickly.  Can someone at Wrike test/confirm this is an issue.

I am going to say this again like many times in the past ....  we need a change log of all changes you are pushing out - date, time and what was changed.  We can not have something working one day and broken the next.  I understand that New Dashboards is still under Labs, but our organization was needing the functionality that is in the new dashboards years ago.  Our executives are excited about these changes and are using the dashboards today.  I can not be just randomly stumbling across changes in the UI.  If a web based change log is not possible at this time, at minimum, please push the pop up to the UI screen like you do on occasion for all new feature updates so we know something has changed.

Vladimir Bugay It appears that all widgets utilizing custom date ranges are having their date range wiped out when the widget goes into edit mode.  I am trying to determine what else is impacted, but I know for certain that is happening.

Michael, we push updates almost daily, often multiple times a day. They are not always new features, we fix bugs as well. I've tried to reproduce the issue you're facing for 10 or 15 minutes, but I can't. I do use quite a few dashboards by myself. There must be something else we are missing.

Can you please provide some details or even better steps to reproduce with screenshots so we can investigate further? Alternatively, you can file a ticket with the support and let me know its ID.

Vladimir Bugay Thank you for the reply. We appreciate that Wrike is trying to get new feature and fixes us in an agile nature. However, hearing how often updates are pushed and the chances for bugs to be introduced is concening when we do not know whats changing. Can Wrike please consider a simple change log in the future that can be visible through the support site. Knowing what has changed will enable your customer to answer questions from their users and provide us the insight to help them when they start experiencing problems. We will also be better equipped to help your development team keep an eye out for possible issues caused by the code updates. And for example, I had no idea that there was a feature added this week to adjust the widget sizing on the row of widgets on the new Dashboards. It is a great add, but we only found out because we stumbled upon it. It would be helpful to know what's changing.

As far as the issue with the date ranges, I have tried to do a screen capture for you of the filter number changing when we go to edit the widgets, but the number disappears too quickly. The widgets having the issue are date based, where we are pulling data associated for tasks with dates ranges of Jan 1 - Dec 31st of 2022, 2023 and another widget for 2024. The widgets are working as expected. When editing the widgets, the filter shows 2 but quickly clears. One of those is for the date range. When going to the Filter tab and looking at the calendar date settings, they are no longer set. So any changes to the widgets means we will have to reset the dates. If a team member doesn't catch that before saving, it will mess up the widget. If this is still happening on Monday, I will do a screen recording and submit the file through a ticket.

Thanks, as always. I truly value your envolvement in the forums related to the new dashboards. This level of support from Wrike to your community members is greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot for the additional feedback on the updates Michael Kelley, we really appreciate it. We're currently working on this internally with Vladimir and the team and we'll keep you posted on the updates. By the way, we've just announced this update for widget sizing in today's Weekly Release Note 🙂

Good morning....

Lisa I am glad to be able to assist and I know this forum and all the changes keep you running. The weekly release notes are appreciated, but when updates are getting pushed out before those release notes, it is all the more reason that the customer needs access to a daily change log (sorted by feature/area, what changed, day / time it was pushed). I know I am sounding like broken record, however it is badly needed.

Vladimir Bugay The date related filter issue seems to be resolved, however quite a few of the date related widgets needed to be reconfigured because the filters were wiped out (including the ranges for current/past/future years widgets, using the checkmark for Overdue - if it's Overdue widget, etc).  If Wrike is not able to restore the board settings for the customer after applying the bug fix, you might want to consider pushing a notification to the New Dashboards so the customer can validate/reconfigure them, otherwise your customers are likely not going to be aware that the data shown on the widget is inaccurate.

Also, as feedback, can you please consider the following as we are already seeing issues:

  • Dashboard Security - we need a way to lock down security on the dashboards.  We have 3 admins for most of our spaces.  Only those individuals should be able to modify Dashboards.  Currently that is not possible as the dashboards inherit their security from Space level (screenshots below)
  • Dashboard History Logging - for the date related widgets that were wiped out across the dashboards, I am unable to be 100% certain that was caused by the bug in the code or if someone manually changed something.  A history of updates made, either at widget or board level, is needed so we know who made the changes (when caused by us).
  • Centralized location for New Dashboards - the old dashboards could be viewed under the Dashboards area at the top of the screen.  Currently, the New Dashboards can only be viewed under Tools within a single space (and then shared out).  Can Wrike please consider keeping the centralized dashboard section at the top of the console and display shared new dashboards to the user under that area versus the user having to go to Shared with me to see them.  The Shared with me often becomes cluttered and our CIO likes how clean it was to view his Dashboards at the top of Wrike console.

Thanks again!

Hello Michael Kelley, thank you very much for your detailed feedback, I can clearly see the value these options could have and I've passed your comments on to our Product Feedback.

Thank you as well for voicing your opinion on how updates are shared with the Community 👍

Vladimir Bugay @...  Good morning/evening guys - when using a view like Donut, how do we modify (add columns to) the data shown on the detail page?  Using the example below, we would like to include Location (aka a folder where the project is stored), along with Start Date so it can be seen without opening the project.  Is it just me or is that functionality missing in the beta version at this time?  I am not seeing a way to select those delivered fields through the filter for the widget.

Lastly, do you know if the box shown on the detail page (see arrow in screenshot below) is intended to display an object?  Thanks as always.

Hey Michael! Happy to hear from you again :) No customization is available in the popup that comes out of drill-down yet. But it's something that is coming out pretty soon :) The leftmost column there shows 1,2,3, and the top row is for column headers if that's what you're asked about.

Vladimir Bugay There are issues again with the CFs not working correctly on the new dashboards - noticed as of today.  This time, custom field People values are not being displayed properly on filter screen (values showing as blank), causing the dashboard to show "No data" when going into Edit mode.

I have opened a ticket on this, however can you please help us to understand what QA efforts are being done before code changes are being pushed out?  This is becoming time consuming on the part of your customer and our company Executives are using these dashboards.  We are once again scratching our head to know when the dashboard code was last updated to know when this issue might have been introduced.

Can you please tell us if there is a target date to have a stabilized release of the new dashboards (moving from Labs to core product)?  I need to provide an update to our I.T. management team.  Thanks again.
