Allow customization of importance list

Problem: we need to be able to trust the priorities of our Backlog and Current Sprint boards.  We have a number of users with access to our boards, who an quickly (and often accidentally) reprioritize tasks.

Ideas we had for solving the problem:

  • Use the Importance field as a way to more clearly assign what work is most important (this is harder to change by accident) - currently not an option because the preset 3 levels of granularity are not sufficiently granular - we would like the option to customize this list, or another preset list with 5 importance levels
  • Lock down who can change the Priority of a task (e.g. some users can view the board and move things in it, but any attempts to drag and drop the priority will revert)

Hi Sheena, thanks for the level of detail here. It helps both our Product team and I understand your suggestion clearly 👍

  • The Importance field is based on the common RAG (Red, Amber, Green) project management importance. I can see how having further options here would be helpful in your case so thanks for sharing here for other to vote and discuss!
  • Having 'locks' on what each user can do in particular Folders would be your best approach here. For this have you reviewed Folder and Project permissions? For example, you can set a person to have Limited Folder/Project access which limits their permission to see or change the importance of a task in that Folder/Project.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these 😊

Importance level granularity would also be beneficial to us.

I would also like to see this, ideally with the ability to customize how many importance levels are available, and not just 5.

I also want the ability to customize the importance levels. Low, Med, High, ASAP.

We use Wrike tickets to prioritize large numbers of projects and ideally we would like to be able to use this field as a ranking system. Enabling this field to accept alpha numeric values would be a great help when displaying tickets in the Board view.

Hi,

is there a solution in the meantime.

we have an risk oriented prioritization of tasks.

is it possible to use the importance with the criticality levels: Critical, High, Medium, Low, No

or Create a own Criticality field that can be used as the importance function direct in the right click and in the dashboard sorting

thanks

Jo

Hi everyone, apologies for the delay in response here.

There are currently no plans to add this suggestion to the short-term roadmap. If there are any updates here, I'll be sure to let you know.

Jochen Vogel, I would recommend creating a custom field labeled Criticality to show priority in the way you desire. This way, you can filter to show only tasks of a certain priority, and to sort them by priority in Reports.

If you need anything else, be sure to let me know.

thanks Hugh, we ended up creating a custom field as per your suggestion, but this does not give us the same visibility as the ability to customize the importance field would.   ~Under the present system, the importance icon is too small and not always visible.

Did this feature ever get implemented?

Like the users in this thread, and others I've found, we would like more granularity of priorities.

Hi Ben Webb, welcome to the Community 👋

For now, we have two levels of importance: high, normal, or low importance. By default, tasks are created with normal importance and aren't designated with any symbol. Tasks with high importance are designated with an exclamation point in the Task view, and tasks with low importance are designated with a down arrow.

At the same time, there are other ways you can designate more granular priorities - with the help of custom workflows, or custom fields. I'd be happy to discuss these options in a more detail - please let me know 🙂

Adding a simple "Hard deadline" would be helpful.
