Auto-Assign & auto-remove last assignee

Need the ability to either ADD a new assignee or CHANGE the assignee to a new individual or to a group, makes sense that a Workflow should/could hand off a task to the next group.

Happy new year everyone! This is now possible with the automation rules (https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/articles/360057941793-Wrike-s-Automation-Engine). Please give it a go and let us know how well this works for you if you haven't checked out the automation engine yet.

Hi Jason! For Business and Enterprise accounts, we actually just recently released the functionality to add an assignee when the status changes. I would love to hear how this works for your team. We also have a post with best practices related to this feature, if you're interested in reading those.

Like Jason, we really need this feature...but unfortunately, the 'ADD' new assignee won't work for us.  We need the ability to 'CHANGE' assignee's.  Is there any chance this option can be added to the 'Conditional Status Change' feature?

The best practice document suggests "Quick Tip: Don't forget to remove yourself as an assignee if your part is done." - but if you are going to the work of manually editing assignees, you don't really need the help of adding someone."

👋 This is something our Product Team is working on at the moment Alex. I don't have an exact date on a release but as soon as I do I'll be sure to update you here. Thanks for bumping this post 👍

I would love the option to "unassign" or "change" assignees as well.

@all, I've updated this thread's title to include the option to remove the last assignee when a new one is auto assigned. I've bumped it with Product Team. Once I have an update I'll drop back 👍

I put this comment on another post, but was told to put here:

"It would be great to have an option to auto-unassign all current assignees during a status change. What I mean is, right now when a task changes status and the workflow adds an assignee, now there are two people on it. Often we want a true handoff instead, so having the ability to remove all assignees then add a chosen assignee(s) upon status change would be hugely valuable and help declutter. "

Right now, when there is a handoff (status change and auto-assign), the original assignee who updates the status has to then manually remove themselves as an assignee. At the end of the day this doesn't have high impact, it's simply annoying and feels unnecessary.

Thank you for listening to our feedback!

I just discovered the Assign on status change feature. I thought, this is great, now we don't have to manually reassign tasks. But then I realized it only adds assignees, it doesn't change them. So like others before me, I'd love the ability to change assignees and not just add. Honestly right now it seems like half a feature.

A very simplified example of one of our workflows is:

Design > Review > Revisions > Final Review > Approved

So it doesn't make sense to us to continuously add assignees. Keeping all followers makes sense, sure, but not assignees. A designer gets assigned the Design and Revisions tasks. A manager gets assigned the Review tasks. So each time we change the status, we also have to change the assignee. Using the Assign on status change feature, it saves us the step of having to add the next assignee, but we still have to manually remove the previous assignee.

If assignees build up each time the status changes, then one task could end up being assigned to 10 people. Managers will have a hard time seeing who is responsible for the current step in the process. Assignees will have a hard time seeing if they need to take action on something. Sure, you can adjust your Dashboard settings to hide certain statuses, but that means you can't ever look in the actual folder because everything will end up assigned to everyone. And that's important for managers who need a view of everything.

Anyway, hope my story is helpful.

Until there is a true hand-off rather than just adding assignees we can not leverage this feature yet.  I totally agree with everyones comments here and think this issue is being addressed.

We are currently using the auto-assign on status change in a few places, but with it just adding another person on, it can get confusing at times. Is there any update on the ability to auto-change assignee?

We really require the need to auto-UNassign the last assignee as the status changes throughout the workflow.

The biggest issue for us is that during the workflow the task gets passed back and forth between some assignees, but they are not getting notified the 2nd time the status updates because they're still assigned from the first time. Does that make sense?

Thank you!

Hey everyone, a quick update; our team is still looking at this but it's not on our short-term roadmap. I'll let you know when I have another update!

I like how 2,5 years passed since the original post was made. This feature is obviously a must have.

Up-vote!  Workflows, by nature, have assignees both added and removed at most stages - the ability to remove/replace assignees should have been in from the outset when assignees became part of the workflow equation.

We need to get this fix moved up in the queue!

@... Just jumping in again to say this feature would be super useful for us. Have the Product Team revisited it at all?

Also - is this product request not the same as this one:
https://help.wrike.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360008018574-Unassigning-users-as-the-workflow-changes (where you mentioned the Product Team is looking into it!)

Thanks :)

Hi Soraya Jung,

This is correct! The Product team are currently researching this suggestion at the moment. If there are any changes, I'll be sure to let you know.

If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to help.

Using the automation engine is tedious for every step in a workflow, when it could be offered as an unassign checkbox option in the workflow setup process.

Hi Mani Sierra, welcome to the Community 🤗

It's possible to assign users using Wrike's Automation, and there's functionality to auto-assign users based on a status change. Can this help you? Please let me know!

Hi Lisa, I see Stephen was working on the ability to auto-unassign (or re-assign) in a workflow at the start of 2019, are you close to having this feature available?

Hi Dan Starkey, welcome to the Community and thank you for posting. May I ask if you've tried the Automation engine to set up a trigger for this?
