[Status: Backburner ⌛️]Adding Dependencies to tasks with no Date field

I don't know how much of a common need this is for other people but I feel the ability to add dependency to a task without specifying a certain date would be nice. Some of my company's projects happen quite fast and sometimes it is hard to give firm dates on when certain tasks should be done. However it would be nice to still be able to set dependencies on tasks to indicate to my Project Management Team that one task should come before another. In other words, I need to indicate that a Project Manager can't complete a certain task without the completion of the other, without auto generating completion dates for those tasks.

Of course you can give temporary dates for each task when making dependencies but those date are most likely incorrect and indicate that we have a bunch of incomplete tasks when in all actuality that task might not even be started yet. When scanning over statistics for all projects this could be a little misleading.

If this is completely outside the scope of the product I completely understand. It was just a thought. Thanks!

Hi, any update on this matter?

This is a real setback when trying to use Wrike to manage project flow ahead in time. It is really useful to have the workflow mapped out. Especially removing the need for fake dates that are just a source of confusment for all parties on Wrike.

A quick fix could be able to mark date as temp dates. IE not confirmed dates could have a sign or specific color?

Hi everyone! No updates at the moment - the suggestion is not on the short-term roadmap currently. I'm hoping I'll be able to provide you with an update in Q1 2020. For now, please share your use-cases that our Product team will use if they decide to take on this idea. Thank you!

Lisa can you share what is on the medium-term roadmap, or what else is on the backlog that this is competing with in the future?  Folks have shared compelling use cases and it's not clear how many more examples are needed to get this off the fence and into development.

Absolutely necessary!  I may not know when something has to start, but I know the workflow it needs to follow once there is a start date.  I can't template effectively or set up a project without this capacity.  For example, I have an ad campaign that follows a certain pattern.  However, because I don't know the dates yet for the last set of ads, I can't duplicate the dependency of the subtasks.  This is wildly unhelpful and means I have to go back in a set it up AFTER I have a date.  Please put this back in the development queue.

Our use case: Editorial System with no specific dates for content creation.

Each project for each article is created in advance, and editors have a dependent task (to review the content once it's finished). But the writers can choose to write these pieces whenever, so we can't use dates when creating the dependencies.

Hi again everyone! Thank you so much for the feedback provided here, I've been passing it to the team. I must say the status is not updated currently, but I'll keep checking with the team and I'll get back to you as soon as I have news!

Andrew Lowd At the moment, we don't have a public roadmap to share but thank you for bringing this up, we'll share your feedback with the team!

Added my vote! This would be so helpful. Especially if you could add the dependency with lag time and set dates later.

Hi, Wrike Team. As we are nearing the end of Q1, is there any update on where this projects stands on the roadmap? I can reiterate what others have said here: this would be a very welcomed feature from our point-of-view. Hoping this project might be getting close to the top of the list. Thank you in advance for any update available.

I also agree - this is very needed, particularly for blueprints. Also, why does deleting the deadline delete the dependency and duration??? So frustrating.

Hey everyone, thank you for all of your feedback here!

The Product team is still interested in this, but there are currently no plans to add it to the short-term roadmap. These plans are subject to change however, so when I have any other updates about this suggestion, I'll be sure to update this thread.

Let me know if you have any more questions / feedback!

Hi Hugh.  Thank you for the update.  Just to reiterate what I'm sure the team already knows: if Wrike is a planning tool, then it needs to be able to be set up in advance--especially in terms of repeatable or dependent tasks so that when the date IS known, one date can be entered and the system align with what was previously set up via duration or dependency.  Whether a task starts now or later, it still takes X number of days and will have A-D dependencies.  Without this feature, templates are only partially useful.

I personally remark the importance to add dependencies among unplanned tasks, that's a very important miss.

In general, I see a lot of posts asking to improve the Project management side of Wrike having left unheard for years. I think it's arrived the time to decide if you want this system to be suitable for professionals in this area or just downsize it as a mere collaboration tool. In the first case, please, boost your investments by far, improving reporting, adding more Agile/Scrum tools (ex. sprints and a burndown chart, more configurable boards and dashboards), alerts, etc...

Hey Marco Caciotti, thank you for the feedback here.

I understand that it can be frustrating to see that a suggestion on the Community hasn't been implemented. We would love to be able to implement every suggestion we receive here in the Product Feedback section, but unfortunately, this isn't possible. You can read more about the Product Feedback process here.

I don't have an update about the status of this suggestion at the moment. If I anything changes, I'll be sure to let you know.

Hi Team Wrike,

I am also super keen on this feature. I don't see how to plan without it to be honest.

I hope you have some good news for us soon.

Thank you,

Naomi

Hi Wrike people

Don't you think that there are quite a lot project managers here that are frustrated with not being able to handle dependencies without dates?

And losing dependencies when clearing a date field is clearly a bug.

Please provide an update and advise on a way to add this feature to the roadmap. Users are asking for this for a few years already...

Thank you

Dmitri
