[Backburner ⏳] Negative Filter / Exception Filter

There would be many cases in which it would be useful to filter based on the absence of a value rather than the presence. E.g. I would like to filter all tasks due on any date except this week. Or tasks assigned to anyone except unassigned or except "Joe". For instance I have a few dummy users to which we assign major tasks to filter them for gantt charts to keep the charts from having every last memo on them. I don't want those dummy user to show up in my weekly staff meeting.

Thanks.

Hi Eliza, thank you for posting this request! That's actually a great idea, and I think several users would be interested in voting for it. I especially appreciate the example with dummy users, thank you for sharing your use cases! :)

@David, correct this hasn't been released and has not yet been added to the roadmap. If that changes we'll make sure to keep you updated here!

I'd really like to have a feature like this to help double check the data entry on projects and tasks. For example, I do not have a good way to pull a report letting me know if any of my projects are labelled as being project type X but not tagged with the appropriate folders for that type of project. Instead I have to pull a report of all projects of that type and manually read the parent folder column to see if they look correct.

I'd love to see this feature too, especially as a way to remove folders or projects from filtered results. For example, show me all active tasks for this user that are in this folder and its subfolders and projects EXCEPT Project X. Don't show me any of the tasks from Project X.

We currently have one project that has over 100 tasks assigned to one person because it involves tracking a number of different documents through a round of editing, translation, re-editing, approval, etc. It would be great to exclude that project when looking at current tasks for example. We all know that there are a huge number of tasks involved, but it makes it difficult to sort through everything else.

in general the flexibility of filters shoud be improved!

what about adding filters like a script using AND, OR, ANDNOT ect. and giving access to all variables and fields available? Why are custom filters so limited???

I also requested a special filter to see tasks assigned to more than one user (as this may cause problems and is strongly recommended to be avoided!)

I strongly support this feature request. This would help in many cases.

Implementation recommendation: Filtering with logical operators is an advanced function. For that reason, it is appropriate to adopt an interface with a *slightly* higher learning curve. Rather than adding complexity to your GUI with additional options, give your "power users" the option to enter filter criteria as text. Most will be comfortable forming logical statements in text form based on their experience with refining search engine queries..

We really need the ability to exclude results based on filter. At the very least give us access to see the search script that is generated and add to it as you can in Jira

Hi everyone! Our team definitely considers this an interesting suggestion, it's simply not planned for the short-term roadmap. I'll let you know when/if that changes!

This would be really useful for me to use with the Last Modified Date filter. I am having a hard time setting up a report that would list all my assigned tasks that I have not updated this week.

I have a multiple choice field that has several options (100+). I am trying to exclude one option for dashboard and report purposes. If there weren't so many options, I would filter for "Contains Any", and select all the options except for the option that I am looking to exclude.

Since there are so many, I at least wish that there was a "select/deselect all" feature when filtering, but overall I especially agree with what Eliza and Florian have expressed.

Bumping this post as I just brought this up with my account rep.
Did a demonstration for another company on how to use Wrike, and the lack of Custom Filter support (including having AND and ANDNOT features) was a reason for them to not move forward with Wrike.

The serious lack of development into custom filters and the automations (want to assign a custom defined field to a default value when a task is created? nope.) is a real challenge with Wrike and I'm surprised it's not a focus by the Wrike team.

This is extremely important in our organization, because we use Wrike in various capacities (calendar scheduling, OKRs, project management, and time tracking for clients). Because of this, some filters are too greedy and list tasks or folders across all sections. It would be far more useful and user-friendly to filter out unwanted sections (like Spaces, Folders, or criteria like dates to not include, etc).

A perfect example of this is tasks I follow but I'm not assigned. When I create a filter for tasks I follow, it lists both, since tasks I'm assigned to automatically makes me follow them. But I have a ton of other tasks I'm not assigned to that I need to follow. A negative filter would solve this.

We have specific cases across our business where being able to add an "AND NOT" term to a filter would allow a much more elegant solution. I think Christopher Harwood's suggestion of allowing a power user alternative to build search queries in some form directly would allow the most flexibility with the minimum of GUI updates.

I'm surprised that this very reasonable feature request has been on the books for over six years. I think Dustin Heathers's point that sales are going begging as a result of this omission should be taken into consideration when putting this into the roadmap.

Take my upvote!
