[Status: Backburner ⌛️] Excel Import to Update Tasks

We are using Wrike to create a marketing calendar, and it would be ENORMOUSLY helpful to use the Excel import function to update Budget, End Dates, Descriptions, and other custom columns at the Task level without overwriting existing attachments or conversation.

This way we could take reporting from agencies who handle our ad updates, hide columns and copy to a clean sheet, then import to keep our Wrike calendars up to date in minutes, instead of manually changing fields one by one.

I have to agree with Amanda (above) - this has been the biggest annoyance when implementing a new account and migrating multiple projects

Agree - need to update task status by excel import (update) file.

Tasks should be modified by an update import. (and in this way create new tasks if not available).

Or is there any other solution for mass updates from xls files ?

Hi Lisa, I was reading through the blog since 2017 and see you guys still don't have this valuable option to decide to import to update or create new, while this is very disappointing (at least after 4 yrs of no indication this is needed with 174 upvotes) I do like the option to copy paste directly, that way I can still do an update quickly following the same format of tasks.

Is there a list of ideas and statuses that we can follow as oppose to try to find topics by ourselves? For example few weeks ago I place an upvote for adding calendars into iOS as this is only available for Android. I would like to see a list of ideas and things to understand where Wrike is going and see what's new and available. My company just joined and would like to take advantage as much we can.

Hi Federico Grajeda, welcome to the Community and to Wrike!

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and feedback. To share some detail on the status, for now, the team is focused on other priorities, so, unfortunately, there is no scope to research this suggestion at the moment. As outlined in this Community post, the Product team looks at a wide range of data, user feedback, and Community suggestions/votes to determine what next to work on. The team always aims to focus on implementing the functionality that will have the widest impact and benefit for the most users, and it's for this reason, that we simply can't implement all of the suggestions we receive via our various feedback channels.

That being said, the team is aware of the suggestion and they do understand this is a highly sought-after functionality among some of our customers. We'll be sure to let you know if anything changes here.

The best way to filter and find Product Feedback requests is to search by keywords and then click on the Product Feedback forum to filter down to suggestions.

You can also find a list of 2021 Community Suggestions - a list of all requests shared by Community members and now being researched or launched by the team. Please let me know if you have any questions🙋🏻‍♀️

Goodmorning,

What is the status of this feature? its ongoing sinds 2017, we are now 5 years later and my company also makes a lot of changes, due to the issue that the import only creates new tasks instead of updating the changed fields we have a lot of time loss and is not efficient. Is this already on the road map or already deployed?

Thanks

this fonctionnality is critical for our operations. 5years and no reponses.... in lot of product we have this fonctionnality. You must give to your customer this possibility ASAP. for exemple, in wrike we can't change the name easily massively. In Excel we have lookupvalue fonctionnality to do this.

Hi Sébastien Bouillon, welcome to the Community, and thank you for posting.

We’d love to be able to implement all of the suggestions that our customers share with us, but we have to prioritize certain requests over others based on various factors and considerations at the time. Although this isn’t currently planned, we will continue to pass on all of your feedback and insights here to our Product Team and of course, we will let you know if anything changes.

If there’s anything else we can help with please don’t hesitate to let us know 👍

I was a Wrike customer for years but stopped because of how poorly ran their "Product Team" is. They coax their customers to submit feature requests and to vote on which feature requests are valuable. The Product Team is getting their customers to do their work for them but it could also be the start of a beautiful system. That all falls apart because they don't appear to follow the list at all and release features that were not even on the list.

What I suspect is likely happening is that some big customers pay for custom features to be added and then those get deployed to everyone the next quarter. This probably accounts for the vast majority of their improvements. They use the list for the rest but it goes preposterously slow because it is just a very small amount of their dev budget.

I'm only taking the time to write this for current Wrike customers to know not to hold their breath for anything on this list to get done. Submitting new requests and voting is also a waste of time.

Thanks a lot for sharing your feedback about how our Product Feedback forum works Nick Pullano.

Let me share a bit more context to add to what you've written. We do have this forum as a place where our customers are able to express their feedback about Wrike. We also have other places for feedback, like in product, and you can share it with our Support team, as well as through your Account team. As you can imagine, that creates a lot of feedback for our Product team, and all of it is reported to them. We use a combination of different analytics and metrics and that helps the team understand which suggestions are the most popular, which ones align with the overall vision, and which are possible to research or work on. Our team is not committed to working on all or even most of the suggestions and they don't do custom development. At the same time, they do always strive to take at least some of the popular suggestions in work when they can. We all appreciate the feedback a lot and your comment here will also be taken on board for internal discussions, so thank you again for sharing your thoughts.

This would be enormous for our team, and honestly any team that does literally any reporting or needs to integrate with new or different systems! I'm not sure I would have to work weekends anymore slapping ctrl+c/control+v anymore.

-I would say, this feature would obviously be most helpful if you could update native fields/custom fields for all items (Projects/Tasks/Folders).
-Being able to only mass update Tasks with an Excel Import still leaves you doing manual work for the projects.

Upvoting! This would be a lifesaver for every single business that has more than 5 tasks. I could've sworn Excel Mass Update was already a feature, until I had to use it...

Is there an update on this option? I need to be able to update custom fields when importing projects into wrike via an excel upload. Thank you.

Hi, wrike team

It seems to be an issue from 2017 that is important request for several clients. I understand that it on backburner since then but is there a planning to make it work, or any progress on this ? I'm new on wrike and came from another competitor that has this feature a long time ago.

Hi Ricardo Chindi Fujii, welcome to the Community. Thank you for your comment, this is indeed a popular suggestion and has been active for several years, unfortunately, this idea could not be prioritized yet. Our Product Team is interested in developing it, however, we don't have an ETA to share about it at the moment.

If there are any changes, please assured that we will let you know 👍

Also, I'd like to mention that you can check our New to Community forum to discover all the resources you can find in our Community 🙂

Adding another upvote on this feature request. I see Monday.com has the ability to do this as do many other platforms we operate on. Being able to update our event timelines in excel and re-import them to update existing data would be very helpful for our users that are more comfortable in Excel than in Wrike and when many detailed changes are required. Projects, tasks etc already have a unique ID so this shouldn't be too hard.

Hello,
I also came here looking for an update on this feature. There are over 200 votes for this feature and a number of use cases. What is the minimum number of votes you need to put this on the short list for Product Team to use. The workaround of uploading, creating duplicates and deleting original tasks is not efficient or sustainable. Some projects have over 100s of tasks. Please revisit this for 2025. I tried to ask about this in the last What's New with Wrike this week with no answer. Thank you and appreciate if you can expedite.

Yes! There have been a number of times where I wished I could do this when mass editing tasks.

I used to use this feature all the time in Quickbase. It's disappointing to see that this has been going on for the better part of a decade  now with over 200 upvotes and it's on the Backburner.

Same here - exporting a list from another Tool and importing it in Wrike to update the tasks would be a very great feature and make it a lot easier to manager our projects in Wrike. Since this feature request was already opened 8 years ago it is really disappointing that nothing has been provided on your side to help with this.
