[Status: Not planned] How to mass edit and rename projects and tasks?

Hi, we use Wrike for new product development and I have created a template with sub-projects and tasks. We typically start off with a working name and then assign it a unique identifier later into the project. So the projects and tasks within this would need to be updated with the unique identifier. I would like to figure out a way to rename all of the tasks and projects but the only way I can think of doing this is duplicating the entire thing and then adding a prefix. Is there another way to do this?

Hello Lize Loftie-Eaton. I'm sorry to hear that all the major improvements added to Wrike during this year - in Automation, New Dashboards, New Table view, Request forms, to name a few examples - did not have the impact we intended for you and your team.

I understand this option would be very important for you, and please rest assured that your feedback has been noted.

We will keep you informed in case there are any updates regarding this suggestion. Please, let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.

No updates currently Lea Labastida. I'll send your interest to the team. Do you have the same use case as described in the original post?

Lisa We do. We manage many projects and would like to be able to edit project tasks on a mass edit scale.

Lisa Please push this up and try to get it implemented. We signed up for the Unito Wrike Sync to manage changing the titles in a project without losing all the comments and other data. It works, but it is inefficient. An export/import spreadsheet option embedded in Wrike that can update a record in Wike is a basic function.

Hi, have there been any updates on this? We are currently engaged in a Wrike pilot with a small group before rolling it out to our full company. The team finds the ability to duplicate projects very helpful when setting up projects of a similar nature, but because we include the job code in our prefix, once duplicated they then need to edit 60 rows to remove the previous project's prefix. Has anyone found any workarounds for this? Would exporting the project they want to duplicate, adjusting the prefixes with a find+replace, and then uploading it to the new project be a solution?

Thank you!

Hello, I found a simple and effective hack to mass-update names in a project. This works great for me, but my projects typically have under 50 tasks, with the longest one I did being 100 lines. I don't know why I didn't think of this before. I use ctrl+c and ctrl+v to copy and paste the names into an Excel spreadsheet. Go into a project and expand all tasks, hover over the first "Name" cell, click, and highlight donw all the cells you want to update. Wrike won't give you a copy option on the left-click menu, so use ctrl+c shortcut. Now, you can copy the data to the Excel sheet with ctrl+v. It grabs all subtasks as long as they are expanded and in view.  I use find and replace to change the prefix of the task name, but you can update the date as you like. Then copy/paste them back into Wrike using ctrl+c and ctrl+v. Just ensure you have selected and highlighted the same group of cells in Wrike that you copied into Excel.

Thanks for sharing your detailed use case. While there aren't any updates at the moment, rest assured that I'll forward your comment to the relevant Product Team. If there's any progress in the future, I'll be sure to let you know.

In Automation now you have the option to add prefixes, suffixes and completely change the names of items. Would this be helpful for you?

Tom Mount - That's fantastic! We appreciate you sharing your workaround 👍

Tom Mount THANK YOU SO MUCH. There are hundreds of comments on this thread begging Wrike to fix this basic data management function and this has fixed the issue for me completely. I can't believe no one has suggested this before?! Thank you.

Hi Rohan!

Any updates on this yet? It's something I would use on a daily basis. We have project blueprints that then I have to go in to each task & add the project info at the end of each ticket, right now that consists of copying & pasting between 50-100 tasks. When opening multiple projects a week, this is very time consuming. A find/replace tool would be such a tremendous help with time management. We're unable to use the prefix setting because of how we view our tasks in the dashboard & on calendars & to do lists. If there was a suffix setting that would solve this issue. Thanks!

Hi Basudha,

Checking in nearly a year after the last update to see if any progress has been made on this issue. I read through the thread, and unfortunately, the prefix workaround mentioned earlier doesn’t work for our setup either. We’re hoping for a simple find-and-replace-type solution. Right now, we’re spending quite a bit of time manually updating task names each time they change. Thanks for any insight or updates!

Hi Shannon Halikas! Apologies for the late reply. I checked for an update, and currently, this is not in the plans. We will keep you in the loop if that changes in the future. Thank you! 🙏🏼

Hi Basudha Sakshyarika,
Is mass edition now possible with the new AI agent available in Wrike labs?
If yes, do you have any idea of how it works to mass rename?
