Subtask inherit folder from Main Task
Hello,
I would like to add a Subtask to different folders that the Main Task is defined in. As far as I understand the subtask is bound to the same Folders as the parent are put in.
Folder 1
Task A
SubTask 1 (Assigned to be viewed in Folder 1)
Folder 2
Task A
SubTask 2 (Assigned to be viewed in Folder 2)
Hi David! I encourage you to check out our Community post about Ghost Tags before reading on - it explains the logic behind subtasks' Folder tags, and it will help understand the answer below.
Subtasks do inherit ghost tags from their parent tasks, no matter how many parent tasks they belong to and how many Folders these parent tasks reside in themselves. As mentioned in the Community post linked above, you can turn inherited ghost tags into full on Folder tags using one of the methods listed in this Help article. You can also tag subtasks with Folders/Projects that the parent tasks don't belong to, which will result in the subtasks showing up as separate tasks in these Folders/Projects. If you need to tag several subtasks in bulk, this can be done with the help of Mass Editing.
I hope this helps :) If you have any questions please don't hesitate to leave a comment, I'm here to help.
Is there any way to make a folder tag NOT be inherited by the subtasks? My use case is tagging a Task that will be displayed in a Calendar based on that tag. But if that Task has any subtasks, all of those appear in the Calendar too... which I do not want to happen.
Ex:
Customer Email task (tagged with 'Email Calendar' folder)
Design email subtask
Code email HTML subtask
etc
Since my Calendar is based on the 'Email Calendar' folder/tag, it shows all the subtasks on the Calendar too b/c of inheritance. I just want the Customer Email task to appear.
@Lee Hey, thanks for posting, I answered you in this thread 🙂
