[Status: Investigating ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ] Add future time frames in Dashboard filters

Hi! We've been advised to add a product feedback in regard to a question we had.ย

In order to easily display incoming tasks in our board meetings, we currently have to use custom time frame filters in Dashboards (i.e.: tomorrow-next 90 days). This implies that for the next meeting, we'll have to customize another Dashboard filter with the new time frame.

I understand that current filters such as "last month" and "this week" are automatically updated, so as to show the intended information. Our suggestion is to add a "next month" (we'd rather have a "next three months", but that's just a nuance) which will enable widgets to automatically update and show incoming tasks.

Hope this makes sense. Please, let us know if further clarification is needed.

Best,

Agustin

Hi Agustin! Thank you for posting this suggestion in the Product Feedback section, the info you included here isย great. I'll keep an eye out for users who support this idea too, and direct them to your post. :)

Yes! This would be very helpful to our team too! We do a timeline meeting every two weeks and review the upcoming two weeks. Currently, I am having to build a dashboard widget for each category (about 10 of them) for every meeting. If you could set a custom timeframe (any amount of days) that updates dynamically, that would be very helpful!

Hi!

I'm re-posting my request here since it is also related to the one submitted by Agustin above.

Currently, we already have "today", "yesterday", "this week", "time frame" in all date fields and "last week" and "this month" in some of the date field filters. https://www.screencast.com/t/pXUuttXcuy

It would be very helpful to have these additional dynamic date filters as well:
- "last week" for Tasks To Do, Due Date, Start Date, Completed On, and any custom field of type date
- "next week"
- "next month"
- "next quarter"
- "next year"
- "last month"
- "last quarter"
- "last year"
- "this quarter"
- "this year"

Right now, we have to adjust the reports, dashboard widgets every day, week, month, quarter, or year that passes to make them current.

If not all your clients/accounts/users will like this, perhaps a setting will be useful for an account or a user level.ย

Let me know if you need more information/clarification.

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing these details, this is extremely helpful! I love all the examples you provided here, and I can definitely see how this would be useful when creating dynamic Reports and widgets.

Would love this feature. We have our weekly meeting on Thursday and could really use a "next week" or "next X days" feature for those meetings.ย

It would be event better to have next X to Y days (/weeks/months). One of the things that frustrates my boss is seeing "this week" tasks repeated in the "this month" column if we try to put them side by side.

Hi Eliza, thank you for your comment! "Next X to Y days" is a really interesting idea, I can see how that would allow to make really granular Reports with precise data.

I agree!ย More granular filtering both forward and backward would be amazing.ย

Hi!

It would be very helpful to have these additional dynamic date filters asย "Next Week" when the user creates a widget.

Thanks!

Our team has asked for a field that would cover next two weeks as well.

We need filters for two weeks, 4 weeks out.

Hi everyone, thank you for weighing on on this request and adding examples of the filters you'd like to see!

I agree that we need filters for the widgets that are both customization after creation, and with more precision. ย I am trying to set up widgets in my dashboard which show tasks due 10 days from today, and another widget to show tasks due between 10 days and 30 days from today, and perhaps another to show tasks with no due date. ย Right now there are no such filters. ย

Similar to this, my team would really like for these time frames to be automatically updated. We currently use 'due this month', but today is the 29th - so only tasks due today and tomorrow are included! It would be much more helpful to apply a 'next thirty days' (or whatever time frame you specify) that would update so when I look today, I could see tasks due between June 29 and July 29.ย

Thanks!

+1! I would really like to see a filter for "next week" (I can see it from theย "this month" view, but then it repeats the tasks from this week)

Because of the untold number of possible scenariosย a company might need, I think it makes most sense to simply add an ability to set a "rolling" time range with day granularity. Then somebody with a wacky need to see 17 days into the future and 36 days into the past is accomodated. This would cover almost every need and it's only one field.

Great way to frame this need - I completely agree that this would be helpful

Last 2 weeks would be very usefull ( Last X Days or Next X Days is a good idea )

I posted something similar last week. I'll paste the post hereย to keep all support for this request in a single place:

Better Dashboard Time Controls

I'd love to see some more useful time filters added to the Dashboards section. For me, 'this month' is far less useful than 'next 30 days.' It's July 28, and my month view shows me the next three days. I'd love to see some relative time controls built in, such as:

  • next 30 days
  • next x days
  • last x days
  • custom relative datesย
    examples:ย
last 7 days to next 30 days
7 days from now to 30 days from now

Hey everyone, happy Friday! As always, huge thank you for sharing all of the feedback here, and I wanted to let you know that we just released two new filter options. Now you can filter by:ย

  • Next 7 days
  • Next 30 day

Hope you like it! Happy to hear your thoughts about this and answer any questions :)

"Next 7 days" and "Next 30 days" are fantastic updates, thanks! The only issue with these is that dashboards usingย each filter duplicate the first 7 days worth of items. I know you can customize a timeframe that would show items between 7 and 30 days, but those would have to be manually updated daily/weekly.ย An additional "Between 7 and 30 days" filter or the ability to adjust those parameters would make this almost perfect!ย

I agree with Kevin Jones. Also, is there any way to apply this to all work, or only for dashboards linked to specific folders?

I'd like to be able to apply this timing to the standard 'Assigned to Me' dashboard, so I can keep track of my work better than the 'My Work' tab (which I think is pretty useless).

Agreed. I still think my suggestion of simplifying the entire process to just have two fields that give a "rolling" time frame based on when the report's being viewed - this handles any and every scenario:

from Xย days ago/days from now ... to X days ago/days from now.ย

Hi everyone, it's great to hear your feedback so soon after the update! :) @Kevin and @Charles, we definitely see the value in having more options, and it's something we're discussing, but we wanted to release this update while a rolling option isn't yet available (I'd love to have that too). @Paul, it's possible to create your own custom version of the "Assigned to Me" widget, where you can set any filtering criteria, and what you'd need here is the assignee and to do filters. Does this help?

Thank you, Anastasia. I had tried that before and gotten nothing, because I hadn't checked to include tasks from sub-folders. :)

Use case for @Charles' point:

ย

We track Conference and Trade Show schedules and want a report for the coming year, therefore I would set the filter to, say, "the next 300 days" to prevent the next 5 years of the same future event showing in the report.

Yes -ย having 'next week' filters in reports would be huge. We schedule our team by the week, so having the ability to have a 'next week's tasks by person' report that we can look to as we're planning out schedules would be so helpful.

Hope to see this as a feature coming soon!
