[Status: Not planned] Improve how Recurring tasks work
Greetings!
I must confess that of all the many, awesome features in Wrike, recurring tasks is probably the one I'm most underwhelmed by. One of the tools that we came from was Asana, which falls short in so many ways, but handles recurring tasks very well.
I was bummed the first time I created a recurring task and found that Wrike simply created a task for every single instance. There's one task that we do every month, for example, for the foreseeable future. First, I realized I couldn't simply have it recur indefinitely. Then, after setting it to 5 years, I realized I'd created this monster list which ate all the other tasks, visually.
I understand this would likely require back-end changes, but please consider changing how recurring tasks work. Here's a couple thoughts:
- Make it a single task marked as a recurring task (bringing things like description and comments to a single place)
- Allow for a task to recur indefinitely. Since it's just a single task, no problem!
- Instead of a task being daily or weekly or monthly or yearly, allow a user to define multiple recurrence rules, providing the flexibility for more bizarre schedules
Being a task attribute, I believe it would also lend itself to open support for recurring subtasks as well.
Hope this helps! :)
Thanks all for the additional feedback here!

Hi Lisa
Usually you or your colleagues would say something along the lines of "we're passing your feedback into the team", so I can only assume from your short response that Wrike still has not got the plans or the ambition to fix this obviously very widely felt problem. That's a massive shame.
Adding to the chorus. We have teams that have opted out of Wrike and into Monday/Asana/Planner because so much of their work relies on recurring tasks. This is actively hindering our ability to make Wrike our Enterprise solution.
Thanks Whitney Norton - it's good to hear others still banging this drum too :-)
Agree with the recent comments, it is disappointing to see basics continue to be unanswered in light of new snazzy things that are cool sounding but not very practical. I know we're 7 years into this thread and I don't think it will change, but at least wanted to say "I hear you and I agree" to the others on here reaching out. Good luck to us all. 🤞
I absolutely agree with you, Ella Flansburg. There are numerous functional issues and requests that get no movement, yet Wrike spends quite a bit of effort on "cool" things or the look of things that aren't always very practical or helpful. Thank you for sharing your opinions on this as well.
Agreed, it's a shame that buzzwords get more attention and focus than core functionality.
Hi folks! You're right that our messages on the topic of feedback may sometimes be very similar, but we really want to reply and reassure you that we indeed share your feedback with our Product teams even if there's no movement for some suggestions.
I've asked the responsible team to provide an update and I will definitely let you know if there is one. Please let me know if I can assist you with anything else!

Hi Rohan V,
Is there any chance of having a public roadmap so we know which features are being worked on?
Here is a resource for why you need one: Product Roadmap Template | Wrike Templates for Project Management
Using the Product Feedback forum statuses as some form of road map doesn't work.
You don't provide any filtering of statuses and if I search for 'Status: Coming Soon' you find old tasks like this:
[Status: Coming Soon...🕑] Collapsing space – Wrike Help Center
Still has the Coming Soon status but this has actually been solved.
I agree with James Ackerly. We really need to see the product roadmap. So many submissions get the generic response of "it's not currently on the roadmap, but we'll let you know when it is." I get so frustrated on topics that "aren't on the roadmap" for years. It would at least be a helpful service to your customers to share what is on the roadmap and what the timelines look like. Is my request on the roadmap this year? In 3 years? Never? I'll never know. Please share this information with your customer base so we know if and when we can expect certain things to change. It has an impact on decisions that we make.
James Ackerly and Jason Pontius - gentleman you are spot on with your feedback There should be a published roadmap with outyears. This is an ongoing issues. As I have posted on several occasions, this particular issues (recurring task with subtasks) has been on this board since 2017 (actually 2016 because there was an original thread that was merged into this one). This issue will not be fixed by Wrike, it would require a massive rewrite of the software. It would be nice if Wrike would just come out and admit/communicate that they are not going to fix this. The only response that is ever given is that they are making product team aware and that it is not on the roadmap; this is not of any value. The product team is fully aware of this issue, not sure how many times they need to be informed. Again, it would be nice if Wrike would just be honest and tell us they are not going to fix this (so we can choose to live with it or not).
Hi folks! I understand your sentiment here.
We don't currently provide a public roadmap, but we do share this info a couple of times a year for our Community Ninjas (Black- and Green-belted members), and our team also shares a general roadmap during our annual Wrike Collaborate conference (find info about this year's event here). You can also reach out to your account team at Wrike for info on whether something is planned or not. We also try to provide the most up-to-date info here in the Community. I hope these resources are helpful to you!

My team just began using Wrike this year, and I've just been pulled in to try and unify recurring tasks we have on other platforms into Wrike. It appears at this point that it's impossible to make things recur well, which is deeply disappointing - and seeing how far back this issue goes is more disappointing still. I'm currently looking for workarounds/third party software that will do what we need. I was so excited about Wrike, but this might be a dealbreaker.

I would also like to +1 the recommended improvements to how recurrent tasks work, especially if we can get tasks to be made from blueprints on a recurring basis, including their associated subtasks. Also having the ability to have the recurring tasks have their names updated automatically according to custom rules would be nice.
For example:
I understand that improvements to recurrent tasks aren't currently planned, but I hope by posting this it'll have a better chance of getting onto a future roadmap.

Agree with this enhancement, also request the following:
1. Fix (or give user option for this not to happen) when recurring tasks are created, they are currently created the day before their scheduled start which, when looking at a task list without setting filters, displays both today's and tomorrow's task.
We are expanding our use of Wrike and with the addition of other teams, we have a need to have recurring tasks containing subtasks. I just discovered today that this is not possible. When I found the link from 2017 I was a bit shocked that it hasn't yet been addressed. I have to admit that i did not go through all 8 pages of comments, but I would like to know. Is this on the radar for improvement? It looks like the last update was a forward to the product team 7 months ago. Any updates?
Nikki Richardson just trying to save you time in on this. Here is my previous post below. Short answer, this will not be fixed.

Another vote for subtasks to be included when making a task recurrent. I can't believe this particular request has been ignored by product development for almost ten years.
