Anyone using 3rd party or external reporting tools on Wrike data
Would love to be able to tap into wrike using Excel, Power BI or other 3rd party tool to create a dashboard on metrics related to managing our work. The current report functionality in Wrike just doesn't get us what we need and doing a weekly export to excel is too cumbersome.
Hi Scott! Your suggestion about MS tools, such as Excel and Power BI, came just in time. It is indeed possible to integrate them with Wrike's API directly, to avoid the step of exporting to XLS.
In regards to this, I soon plan to post a short guide related to the usage of the Power Query (this is the script language used in Excel & Power BI and based on the M-language). By the way, do you personally or anyone on your team have any experience in linking RESTful API's with the ETL or database tools you use? Would love to hear your story!
Don't have a story today, but looking forward to using your guide to create one.
We are using Power BI with our Wrike data to augment the reporting capabilities of Wrike. We are definitely looking forward to your hearing more about linking the tools more directly (we currently export timelog data to Excel and then run the PowerBI transform from there).
Hi Paul! Sounds great, I was actually planning to cover Timelogs in my example, still working on the post, hope to publish it soon. Stay tuned!
Great to hear -- one of our friction points is decomposing the folder structure to group items at a common level. The mulitple tag feature complicates things (we only get the first one, which is alphabetical, since the potential variations are numerous), but also the flexibility of the folder structure makes it more challenging to transform that field in a consistent way. To elaborate -- we are trying to capture the timelog hours against a specific project, and we parse out the folder string and have to designate which level of the string (levels separated by /) is the right one (the top level for that particular project) for grouping. Our approach to limiting variability in the string (through naming conventions and SOP/governance) has impacted our flexibility in using folders and projects. So addressing a use case that allows me to more easily and dependably identify and extract the desired level from the string would be very helpful.
Adding interest to utilizing Power BI, looking forward to seeing this guide. Thanks
I'm also eager to see this guide. It would be very useful to link excel directly with Wrike to get the timelogs data, instead of having to do an export every week. Thanks!
Can we get an update as to when this guide will be released? I was hoping to see something by now as we could really use it.
Hi everyone! I have just posted the promised article, here it is: Connecting Wrike's API with MS Excel and Power BI. Will be happy to answer your questions! In case you have some suggestions or want to share your Power Query experience - you are welcome to leave comments. I plan to post more specific tutorials in continuation of the topic if this post is helpful.
Were there any solutions found for making a direct link to Power BI? I keep getting an expression error like this:
Expression.Error: The 'Authorization' header is only supported when connection anonymously. These headers can be used with all authentication types: Accept, Accept-Charset, Accept-Encoding, accept-Language, Cache-Control, Content-Type, If-Modified-Since, Prefer, Referer.
I'd love to get this running.
Hey everyone! I’m happy to announce the availability of BI Export beta for all Enterprise accounts! BI Export allows us to extract the data from Wrike in BI-friendly way via API. We can’t activate the beta from here so if you’re interested in the functionality please reach out to your Customer Success Manager for activation. 😀
@Andrew, so sorry we missed your message! This looks like an issue with Power BI Integration Utility. From what I was able to find online we can try the following: in Power BI navigate to File > Options and settings > Data source settings. Find your data source URL from the list, click Edit, edit the credential type to be Anonymous, and click Done. Try again. Please let me know how it goes!
@all, just to add to Serge's update above. I also want to let you know we also have a Tableau Connector so you can pull this data to your Tableau database easily. Find out more 👉[New from Wrike] BI Export and Tableau Connector (Enterprise)
