User Profiles and Colours

Hi Scott! Are you referring to the background color of their profile picture (the default one with initials)? If so, is there a certain type of grouping with the help of color coding that you use? Something I would recommend is having users upload their own profile pictures, and trying out User Groups for easier management of teams and departments. Happy to help set this up and answer any further questions!

We would like to be able to select/assign other colors too. When you add a custom profile picture, does it still keep the user initials in the foreground?

When you add a custom picture, the initials will not be kept. I guess you can create a picture that would contain initials and a photo using third party tools.

Can you please explain where else you'd like to select/assign colors? Have you already seen how to edit a group's avatar? 🙌

Hi @Lisa!

The main place we want to see this is on Dashboards, I have a widget set up for each team member's tasks, and some tasks are assigned to multiple team members. Because some of the default colors are so close together it is hard to see at a glance exactly which team members are assigned. We'd like to select colors that are more distinct so it is easier to manage our workload.

The custom avatars/pictures wouldn't be as nice as it would be as clean and clear which user is which.

Hi Lisa, I also have a similar need, as we use the coloured profile colours to denote which resource group people are in. How can I change the colour on other user's profile? Or can they change the colour themselves?

In this case, I'd suggest creating custom pictures for your team's profiles, for example, their initials with fonts of the colors that you need. Or, you can create User Groups, enter initials for them and choose colors:

As per the above comments we would also find it very useful to change the colour of user's profiles (rather than create custom pictures). Is this on the development roadmap?

I just want to add another use case to this as well - we have two members of our team who have the same initials (let's say AA), and for whatever reason, Wrike gave their icons the same color.  It's not a huge thing, but it's super annoying because I can no longer determine who's working on what from dashboards, I have to go into those projects.

It might be helpful if owner's and admin, including group admins, were able to customize their respective resource group's avatar with an image, like they can with an individual user or collaborator.

Adding on to this request. We have a small team of three and we all have a different shade of orange for our icons; not easy to see who is assigned to what. Being able to simply change the color of everyone's icons would be great and doesn't seem like a big ask.

Hey Kate Dupuis! Although this isn't something that the Product team is working on currently, you can still change profile pictures as explained here. I can see you had a situation when two team members have the same initials - for that, I'd recommend using some more personalized avatars.

upvoted.  This is one of those features in Wrike I expected to already be in place and was surprised it isn't.  When viewing a project plan with many tasks, it's a huge help to be able to tell who's on what just by color, especially when there are multiple people on a task ("Okay red, green, blue. That means Brian, Terri and Gina are on it"). 

In my experience, user photos aren't useful when the photo isn't big enough to see and even when it is it takes up brain processing power to look at the photo and translate.   When users have to create a solution in a third party tool ("make a purple picture and import it"), that's a workaround for a missing feature, not a working function.  I would love to see the developers add the option to reassign the default color given to users without an avatar pic.

upvoted; and 100% agree with Brian. profile pics are too small to easily determine who is who. this seems like a super simple fix for Wrike to deal with and very tedious for users to create custom initials to upload.

A quick addition to the request.  If something like this is implemented, it would be really nice to pick colors from an RGB/Hex spectrum rather than a tiny palette of preselected colors.  I've seen some other platforms do that where you only get a small number of colors to choose from.  That's super limiting, especially when you have more users.

upvoted. How can this still not be a feature 6 years later?

If this is something that the community of users is saying they would benefit from and is a relatively easier suggestion to implement (compared to many others I have seen), what's stopping you? We have a pretty big team and would be super helpful to customize the color of your avatar.

The current workaround consists of uploading a custom profile picture that would meet your needs. Also, I'd like to mention that you can check our New to Community forum to discover all the resources you can find in our Community 🙂
