⛔️ Disabling comments and file uploads in Milestones

Use case:
We utilize milestones for a lot of our projects in a very traditional way, solely for marking a date on a timeline. For example, "To client for reveiw". Nothing else needs to happen there except to mark the status of that review in the workflow. Because there is the opportunity to use it like a regular task, it opens up a place for conversations to fork.

Solution:
It would be amazing if there was the ability to turn off comments and file uploads on milestones to keep the conversations in the tasks where the work is happening. We've tried putting directions in the description fields of our milestones, but when people are in a hurry of just don't read them, conversations fork and discussions get fragmented.

This is a very interesting idea Bryan Whitson, thank you for sharing it! Our team is currently working on new functionality that will allow more customizations for tasks. It's early to say whether it will cover your ask 100%, but please keep an eye on our announcements here on the Community for more info 🙂

I would like this too. The option to disable comments from a task so users are forced to use the parent task for everything.

This would be a GREAT feature. Right now our team is having a difficult time tracking where conversations are happening. It would be great if we could shut these comments off to force conversation and collaboration in the parent task, instead of them happening in silos at the sub-task level.

Here's a use case scenario:

Parent task: Concepting

  • Sub task: Copy development
  • Sub task: Design/layout
  • Sub task: Internal review
  • Sub task: Copy/design revisions
  • Sub task: QAQC
  • Sub task: QAQC Edits + Finalize assets

We assign specific resources to each sub task that applies to their specific work. This is great so they know exactly what is expected of them (instead of one overarching 'Concepting' task on their to-do list). The problem is that because only the sub-task appears on their to-do list, they're visiting that sub-task to post updates, documents, etc. Ideally, clicking a sub task on a to-do list would take them to the overarching parent task (in this case 'Concepting'). That way everyone gets a holistic view of status in one place, making it easier to link conversations for the overarching deliverable.

Maybe we're going about our set up wrong? Would love to hear about other ways to possibly set these projects up.

I need to be able to really close out tasks, meaning no more comments can be added, no more updating or uploading of files etc.

Once a task moves on to the next stage people keep using old tasks even though they clearly say "completed" and comments have been added that they are closed.

Note that moving the tasks is not an option. We need the completed ones to stay where they are.

Hi Jeanine Lore, thank you for your comment. At the moment, the current solution would be to change the access role of the users to 'Read-only'. However, I understand this option might now be ideal for you and I've passed your comments on to our Product Team.

We will keep you updated in case there are any changes implemented 👍

Please, let us know if you have any additional questions.

I am interested in turning off comments, potentially for some projects/users and not others. My team are also confused about where to communicat, I would like to disable the comments feature for projects or when a task is completed.
