Releases 📈 - New settings in “Change assignee” automation trigger, rules and dashboards duplication, and more! (10/02/2023)
Feature Updates
- Automation - New options in “Assignee Changes” trigger and Automation rules duplication
We have enhanced the “Assignee Changes” trigger in Automation to allow you to specify the exact changes that should take place to make your rule work. You will find all the available options within the trigger, which saves you the step to determine additional details in the “Conditions” section.
Thanks to the available option you can set if the trigger should be fired when:
- Anything changes.
- Specific people are added as assignees.
- Specific people are removed from the list of assignees.
- Any person is added.
- Any person is removed.
Additionally, the trigger not only applies to actual users but also supports job roles. This means that you can, for example, change the status of a task (e.g.: “Proofreading”) when the task is assigned to a specific job role (e.g.: “Editor”).
Furthermore, we’ve introduced the ability to duplicate automation rules. This option is available via right-clicking in the list of rules in space settings or via the three-dot menu/right-click in the list of rules in Account Management.
When you select the option “Duplicate”, the rule editor will open, allowing you to make any necessary changes to the new rule. Please, note that you need to click on the “Create” option to finish the operation and actually create the new rule.
We know many of you have been requesting this option and you can now take advantage of it in cases where, for example, you need to create similar rules with small changes. For instance, rules that are identical but are applied to different items or should be applied to different locations.
- New Dashboards - Duplication of Widgets Available
But duplication is not only limited to automation rules. You can now also very easily duplicate a dashboard widget in New Dashboards by clicking on the three-dot menu located at the right side of the widget’s title:
Similarly, as with automation rules, you use this option to save time and effort when creating similar widgets that need small adjustments to cover any specific needs.
- Item view - Location field included under Item’s name
We have listened to your feedback and we brought back the location field under the item’s name when opening the item view:

As usual, if you have any questions, please feel free to share them with us 🙂
Fantastic the copy of automation rules. But two weeks late as I reorganized our Spaces just and had to make a lot of handwork.
Item location field is back where it belongs to. Yes that is a good thing.
Great updates! I'm really enjoying the new UI and these little updates that make our lives easier. I was excited to see the updates to the Assignee Changes automations. Still disappointed I can't automate simply assigning to the author that created an item type. I'll be keeping an eye out for this update!
Thank you for including the location link! This will be super helpful for our team.
Grateful that you all listened to the feedback and moved the location tags back under the titles! I thought I could adjust quickly to the change but it was so many extra steps to get there. Already getting feedback from my company that they're happy it reverted back!
Now just waiting for the search bar to come back to the top-right corner... 🤞
Awesome update! Really appreciate that Wrike listens to the users. It's a huge bonus to use Wrike vs. any other PM apps.
Big fan of the duplicating Widgets and rules!
Thank you for moving the location!! Is there any chance there will be more views visible or a way that we can change our options company wide? Our company uses Files all the time and having at least four showing at one time would be helpful.
Nice update. To dublicate something is essential in my view. Please make that also possible also for the rest. For example the custom item types
Thank you for adding the location back in under the item name. I had so many comments from my team regarding that.
We are happy you like these updates and enhancements, everyone, and we'll share your feedback with our team just as always 💚

Our team is so happy to see that the location moved!
I appreciate the changes to the assignee automations, but will we ever get the option to auto-assign to the Author of a task/project? This has been a real struggle for us.
Thanks!
So glad the location is back under the title. Thank you
Thanks for those updates! And please add "author" to be assigned by automation - this would be awesome!!!
Hi Anna Giacobbe and Florian Kislich, thank you for your feedback. May I ask if the option to automatically mention the author to provide them with this instruction would be of help?
Albert Castro glad to see you enjoy this improvement 👍
Hi @...,
I've used this as a workaround, however it involved:
We have also tried using "Requestor" job roles, but we can't narrow it down to the right person.
Simply @mentioning the author in a comment doesn't add anything to their to-do's or dashboards, which proves to be extremely valuable. I know when I worked with JIRA at my previous company, we were able to set automated assignees to the person who created the ticket and it was life-changing!
The new updates were very good. However, we would like there to be some automation capable of changing the custom item type when a new task is created. Furthermore, an automation that copies values from a field in one task to another field in another task would be interesting.
All great updates - Is there a way in the new dashboards view to choose custom fields to view?
Hey Rhonwyn! You can customize what fields are available in the table widget on new dashboards by editing it and adjusting a selection under Fields. Does it work for you?

Anna Giacobbe May I ask to support this (ancient) feature request by upvoting? I think this solution would solve your issue in a very good way.

Yay for the return of location; that was a small but frustrating hiccup. Yay also for more duplication.
Thank you all for your feedback here, folks! 🙌
