[From Wrike] New Automation Actions: Create Items and Subitems from Blueprints ⚡️

Hi everyone 👋

We have recently announced that you can now create items and subitems in Wrike’s Automation as actions. But it doesn’t stop there! We are very happy to let you know that starting today, the list of automated actions now includes two new options:

  • Create an item from a blueprint 📌
  • Create a subitem from a blueprint 📌

We know that many of you have been waiting for these as this has been mentioned on multiple threads in the Community, for example, in this recent announcement.

How it works

When setting up an automation rule, you’ll see the new action options to create items and/or subitems from blueprints. It works the same as the blueprint creation menu - you’ll be able to choose a blueprint, enter its title, add a prefix if you need one, and select its location. It’s also possible to notify the blueprint assignees.

We hope you are excited about more actions available in Wrike’s Automation! Please share your thoughts and questions in the comments below 👇

Fantastic! Thank you all for the add!

Nice, but what I am missing is creating a task with the same name as the triggering task. E.g. do not enter a name in the automation for the new task and Wrike takes the same name as the triggeing task. With the prefix one can double tasks in some conditions.

Is there/will there be a way to specify the dates? Also, seconding Sven that being able to use the name of the parent task in name or prefix would be beneficial.

Really cool!, will have a look into it :)

I second the dates request. I would like to trigger the creation of a blueprint that is due same day, not the day I made the blueprint. Any other time I use a blueprint, there is an option to reset the dates-- will this be possible with automations?

Creating a task or subtask from a blueprint via automation should have all the same options as creating a task from a blueprint the usual ways. Prefixes and rescheduling the task and subtasks are all absolutely key to blueprint functionality. Without those, blueprints are nearly useless for my organization.

Thank you very much for all your suggestions! Regarding the dates suggestions, Zachary Caylor, Elizabeth Bevels, Max Goldberg I'd suggest creating a separate feedback request so other users would be able to clearly see the benefits of your idea and upvote it. Probably, Max's suggestion would be the most comprehensive. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us!

Hi everyone, i created a feedback post for this feature here

Max Goldberg Elizabeth Bevels Zachary Caylor

I also need to set dates for subitems created from blueprints. Basically useless to use if i can't adjust the dates. Anyone else found a solution?

Hi Catherine Sneed, thank you very much for creating a separate request, great initiative since other users will be able to easily find it and upvote it 👍 We will keep you informed of any available updates on Automation as soon as we're informed about them 🙂

I like the additional feature in the Automation build.  I agree with Sven on the "Create from Blueprint" option: creating a task with the same name as the triggering task.

Has that feature been considered more by the developers?  I see it has been 7 months since Sven Passinger & Zachary Caylor and others commented.

Or is there a variable that can be used to pull the title from the triggering task?

Hi Curtis Jackson, thank you for your comments, at the moment we don't have updates regarding this option. I've passed your feedback on to our Product Team and we'll keep you updated if any changes are implemented 👍

Exactly, without being able to pull the name from triggering task, I'm not quite sure what I can do with this automation. I don't want to generated tasks of the same name each time a trigger action happens...

Hi Team,

Any update on this one yet?

Renaming the task generated through automation to include the name of its parent task would help distinguish it as unique, or at the very least, incorporating its task ID in the name would be beneficial.

Hi Jeenu Bindu 👋

Thank you for reaching out. Currently, there isn't an update on incorporating the parent task's name automatically. However, there are a couple of workarounds available.

You can use custom fields to store necessary information and then manually update task names based on these fields. Alternatively, you can add prefixes to tasks when duplicating projects or using templates, though this doesn't dynamically include the parent task's name. I understand this requires manual intervention and may not fully meet your needs.

If there is any progress on this suggestion in the future, I'll be sure to keep you updated.
