[Status: Backburner ⌛️] Excel Import to Update Tasks
We are using Wrike to create a marketing calendar, and it would be ENORMOUSLY helpful to use the Excel import function to update Budget, End Dates, Descriptions, and other custom columns at the Task level without overwriting existing attachments or conversation.
This way we could take reporting from agencies who handle our ad updates, hide columns and copy to a clean sheet, then import to keep our Wrike calendars up to date in minutes, instead of manually changing fields one by one.
It would be really important for my team as well.
Following to see if this goes anywhere
Just want to share my experience. When exporting, I click the "..." on the top right corner of Wrike Folder and export to an excel file. After editing, I will delete all the tasks within the destination folder and import the excel. I have to do it when nobody else is using this folder because all tasks will be deleted before importing, just to avoid duplicating the tasks. Please note that the excel file exported from Table view is different from the one by selecting "Export" from the "..." hidden menu.
Hope it helps.
Hi everyone! Thanks for providing more use-cases here! Currently, the status remains the same, but please rest assured that all your feedback is passed to the team - I'll update you when the status changes.

Echoing everyone else here as I move my team into Wrike from Teamwork. Seems like it would be easy to name a column and just have Wrike loop through the headers for a 1:1.
Hey Benjamin Mace, thank you for this feedback! It's been passed on to the Product team. I don't have an update for you at the moment, but as soon as I do, I'll be sure to let you know.
Hi guys, is this ever going to get implemented ?
Hi TK Chuah! For now, this suggestion isn't planned by the team. We'll update this thread if we have an update from them 🙌

Hi All, i am new to wrike, exported a project to bulk update resources and when i imported back, it duplicated all tasks.
I believe this is the discussion thread on this, is there an update on when this will be addressed at all?
or do i not understand how to over come this?
I can live with this if its fine to merely delete the original but the sequence is blank and the predecessors are wrong (i guess they wont be when i delete the original tasks).
Am i doing something wrong here, would be good to get an explanation here.
seems exporting a project to update a resource is quite a basic task, surprised if this really creates a duplicate
thanks
Dave Reilly
Dave Reilly, unfortunately that's how it works in Wrike. It's a pretty poorly executed bulk import function, that as far as I know has not improved in the time I have been using the system. There isn't actually a bulk update ability, because when you export your tasks the commentary data is not included in the export. So even though you re-import and the tasks are duplicated, you will find that the new versions (re-imported) are missing some of your key information. This functionality is unfortunately on Wrike's list of "this isn't currently planned, but we'll let you know when it is", even though it is bread and butter functionality for a system.
Ah ok that explains it, thanks Jonathon, seems a small win if they updated this, will keep a lookout, thanks a lot for responding!
Hey Dave Reilly, don't hold your breath. I love Wrike but their product feedback system is terrible. They email you and want to setup a call, they call you and ask for feedback, if you give it to them they push you to add it here. We're off to a bad start because if I'm doing the UX testing for you, Wrike should make collecting the data as seamlessly as possible and not add friction to the process by telling me to do it.
That said, it would be an ok way to do it if your product features queue came objectively from the list of features your customers request. Instead if you look at the features they add vs the ones that have the most votes in the queue you will see near zero correlation between the two. In short, Wrike doesn't want to hear your feedback and they add whatever new features they want to independently of what features customers objectively want the most.
Again, Wrike is a good tool as it is. They just have a Head of Product that should be fired.
thanks Nick, good summary lol!
Hi Nick Pullano, thank you for sharing your feedback on our processes here! I've passed it on to your Customer Success Manager so he can investigate this situation.
Overall, Wrike has different feedback channels - you can provide product feedback here on this forum, via Support tickets, to your Account Manager or your Customer Success Manager. The Product team receives all the feedback and provide statuses (you can read more about this process here). And here's a detailed post on What happens with Product Feedback.
Some of the suggestions posted here get implemented, so it definitely makes sense to post them, although we can't guarantee that all suggestions will be taken on by the team.
Please let me know if I can help with anything else!

Our company workflow is complex involving large systems. Our Wrike contract is set to expire very soon. Unfortunately lack of serious movement on this specific topic is causing management to choose to move to a competitor product. It would be nice to inform management that import updates via csv files are now on the product roadmap. FYI - our contract expires Sept 15th, 2020
This functionality is needed and shouldn't on the back burner! It's causing so many more hours of work.
Thank you David Vineyard, I'm passing this info to your Account Manager now.
I'd like to mention in case you haven't seen this functionality yet - it is now possible to copy values for multiple columns and cells from other tables (Google spreadsheets, Excel) and text files (.csv, .txt) and paste them to the Table view. Hope this can be helpful!

We just signed on and we are still going through the deployment of the software. This feature is needed badly not just for us to start but for us to go forward with new customers and their hundreds of projects. We have lots of data where an integration is not possible because it doesn't come from a system we own. Updating manually through the interface is too time consuming. Please add the ability import CSV and/or excel that can use an existing template in addition to being able update existing project and task data in Wrike.
Hi Richard Herzog,
Thank you for sharing your use case here. Input like this is instrumental to our Product team as they continue to have conversations about this suggestion. If there is any new information available here, I'll be sure to let you know.
We need this as well. Not sure what criteria was used by the deciding team but I think they are missing a huge opportunity to improve efficiency
Hey KIM RASZINSKI, thanks for getting in touch, I've passed on your interest in this to our Product team.
You can read more about how we work with Product feedback in this post. If you have any other questions, or if you need anything else be sure to let me know.

Would be very helpful to be able to import custom field values via excel since a lot of project management work requires import/export workflows.
Hi Jules Bowie, thank you for adding your support here and for sharing your use case 🙌🏼

Although it doesn't seem to make a difference, I'll add my request for this feature as well. It seems like another fairly basic function that Wrike does not yet support, and seeing that this thread started in 2017, I'm doubtful they will. Very frustrating.
Thanks a lot for sharing your feedback here, Bethany Gansen! I'm passing it on to our Product team 👍 Please make sure to upvote the original post above if you haven't yet - the number of votes helps the team understand how popular the suggestion is. Here's more detail on that, but please let me know if you have any questions!

The ability to import time tracking information from other systems would greatly improve our ability to work with a variety of personnel including subcontractors, partners, etc. who have their own viable solutions for time tracking. Importing a normalized data set from an excel export from their systems into our project management would save us many hours in re-formatting each month for invoicing.
Hi, how is this not a feature yet with 162 votes? It's been 5 years.
Do you have developers who can implement the update for us, even using your APIs? How much would it cost?
Thanks
Hi again, everyone! I've just checked with the team, and for now, the status here remains the same as they don't have immediate plans to work on this idea. We understand that this will be disappointing news here, but please rest assured we continue to pass on your feedback here and keep this idea on their radar.

Thank you. What is the rational for not making this a planned feature with so many votes from customers over the last 5 years?
Babak ESKINI (FDR) We have a process with the Product team, and Community feedback is one of the important factors in their decision-making. At the same time, the team can't commit to working on all the suggestions here. The good news is that many suggestions do get implemented. For example, here's a post with the Community suggestions that were released in 2021. In relation to this particular idea, the team can't prioritize it at the moment.
I hope this gives you a better idea of how our Product Feedback forum works! Please let me know if you have any further questions 😊

Chiming in to also add my frustration with this missing feature. We are implementing a new instance of Wrike and it would be really helpful if we could mass update our imports as we find things we have missed. It's super time consuming to delete and reimport. You would think this could be facilitated by having a unique ID for each record, so Wrike just updates the appropriate one.
