Per user sorting and filtering
When collaborating with others it is often the case that a particular sorting or filtering setting that a user has set might not be ideal for other users of the same data collection. A few examples:
- A table view sorted through a particular column
- A table view filtered to show only rows with specific values
- Folders on the left UI pane showing only Active tasks
Once a user changes one of these settings, it messes up another user's "workflow".
An idea to solve this problem would be to:
1. allow view creators to configure a default sorting and filtering preference, and
2. allow users to set their own sorting and filtering preferences per view (overriding the default), and
3. allow view creators to "lock" the sorting and filtering preferences of a view so that they may not be overriden by option (2)
Hi Dimitrios Glynos, welcome to the Community 👋
Can you tell me if you've tried using custom views? It's possible to create private views that will have the filters and sorting that works for that particular user. Please let me know if this can work for you!

Hello, I'd like to add that, especially with the rollout of Lightspeed, it would be helpful for us if each user could identify their personal default view (or their own global default sort/filter option for their account).
I believe that even if User Z creates a private view, they would need to create the private view in every folder, is that correct? And if someone else sets the default view to View A, User Z would still need to click into their private view every time because they would first be shown View A, is that correct?
Thanks in advance for any insights.
Hi Anna Schild, thank you for sharing these questions with us. May I kindly ask you to elaborate on your suggestion about identifying a default view? When a view is set as default, if you click on the three-dot menu of the view's settings, you will see the legend "This is the default view".
If a user changes the default view, this change will apply to all users. Also, personal custom views cannot be set as default and cannot be shared with others or applied to other items.
I hope this information helps!
Hi Juan, yes that was my understanding of how default views work. The issue for us is that if I set the default view to Table, but my colleague prefers Board view, each time they go to that folder, they have to click on Board view to see what they want to see. It would be better for each user to be able to pick their own default view.
Thank you for your reply, Anna Schild. I've shared the details about your case with our Product Team 👍
