Upload attachments via Outlook add-on

When creating a task from an existing email via the Outlook add-on, it would be extremely helpful if there were a way to include any documents that are attached to the email.

As it stands, I can create the task via Outlook, but still have to download the attachments, go into Wrike, open the task, and upload them.

Hi Jeremy, is this how you're creating a task from the add-in? Attachments from the email should be added to the task. Let me know if that's how you're creating tasks and it's not working.

Just followed your link to creat a task. But attachments are not added to the task... any idea?

Create a Task

  1. Open an email in Outlook.
  2. Click "Open Wrike add-in".
  3. Select “Convert to a task”. (If you have multiple accounts, you’ll have to select an account first).

A task is immediately created and you can begin editing it.

What Happens When You Create a Task From Outlook

  • Text from your email is added to the task’s description. If it’s an email chain, only the text from the most recent email is added.
  • Attachments from the email are added to the task.
  • The task is pinned to My Work.

@Roland I'm so sorry for the delayed reply here. We need to ask a couple more questions to see what's going on there, so I'm creating a Support Ticket so that we can figure out what's going on.

@stephanie Westbrook - I am trying to add as an outlook email attachment as a comment.

Is there a way to only add the email attachment but not the email itself?  Or a way to delete the email content so it only shows the attachment?

Reason being, a short email can look very long due to our signature/privacy notice.  I want it to be easy to read and I would rather not download the attachment and upload it to Wrike.

Hi Mary, right now, the add-in will attach most of the information that's on the email. Perhaps you could try editing the forwarded email, deleting the information you don't want to attach, save it and then create a task from it? It's a long process but might be helpful for you now 👍

Similarly, I would find it useful to use an attachment from an email and attach it to an existing task.

The attachment function in Outlook(Outlook 2013 with on-premise Exchange) does NOT work. Period. Forget it. Don't even bother trying to get it to work. It just doesn't.

Even with AV and firewalls turned off, every existing Outlook add-in disabled, macro security level to zero it doesn't work.

We have a support ticket raised but looking at how far back this issue goes out trial period will be up before a solution is ever released.

Maybe it works with Off365 but as we don't run that version it's hard to test.

Disappointing really as the software showed promise.

FYI - I have the same issue.  I can create a task with outlook but the attachments do not go follow.  Since the attachment has all the info needed to complete the task, this is not very helpful.  Do I also need to put in a support ticket?

I should note, the issue is only when creating a task through Outlook.  If the task is already created and I need to forward an email with attachments to that task, it works fine.

That being said, I don't want to have to create a task and then forward an email.

Thanks

I think I just figured out what the issue is.  When I create the task from the Preview Pane, the attachments will not go into Wrike.  If I open the email and then use the Create Task, all attachments go into the task.

However, I would prefer to not have to open the email.  If that can be corrected, that would be great.  But at least there is a way to do it.

I hope this helps the others above.

Tried both events and still no attachment being copied over to the task.  New ticket raised with a log attached.

Yes me too. would be very very usefull to have it attached to the wrike taks as soon as you klick the plugin.

We use a local installed outlook Version 1910 but its attached to a 365 Account.

Attachments are not added to tasks when creating a task from an email in Outlook through the Wrike for Outlook button. Is this a bug? Can it be fixed?

Lisa Samething for me. It does'nt work even if I try both (preview pane and email opened)

I am also having this issue.  The attachments do NOT get attached to the task created via the Outlook Plug In.  I tried both the Preview pane and with the emailed fully opened.

I am also having this issue.  This feature used to work for me but has now stopped working.  Outlook add-in is working fine except for the attachments.

Hi All

It would be far more helpful if you are having issues with the Outlook attachment  try stating some helpful technical info such as version of Outlook(2007,2013,2016,2019, Office365), build number, Exchange version backend(on-premise, hosted, or '365), what patch level are you running, was the feature working previously or not.

Simply saying "mine isn't working either" isn't helpful.

We've had this same issue in our Office 2013(v15.0.5171.1000, 32-bit)/on-prem Exchange 2013 CU16(server 2012) since day 1. All servers and Office products are patched and updated religiously.

If there is a common thread in the version of Outlook/Exchange then maybe we can get some traction as to where the fault lies. And for the record I don't believe it's Outlook/Exchange. If anyone wants to see my ProcMon logs I'd be happy to share.

For the record we have just finished implementing Wrike across the organisation. Apart from this "issue" alls well. We have found work-arounds using some voodoo magic for the attachment issue.  Happy to share that one too.

Cheers.

I am having this exact same issue. I am running outlook 365 desktop version 32bit and exchange is hosted by a service provider.

I had a remote screen share session last night with Wrike tech support but it was not resolved. Interestingly, for a moment it worked during our zoom session but then stopped working.  At lease he saw the issue 1st hand.  It would be great if Wrike would get to the bottom of this as it is preventing me from deploying Wrike in our company.
